The 935G is a tough one!
-
CHIRP runs on MacoOS and I believe you can use CHIRP with the UV-9G, but not with the Midland. You can download CHIRP here: https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Download Search Youtube for videos on how to program the UV-9G - if they exist, they will be there, but once you get CHIRP running, its much easier to do it that way.

Welcome to the exciting and dynamic GMRS lifestyle! The GM-15 Pro is a decent, low-cost radio. It has just as many farz as any other 5W handheld radio and dollar for dollar it's not a bad choice for a beginner The antenna that comes with it is fine, and based on the (much) testing I have done, it is doubtful that replacing it would make any difference that you would ever be able to notice, but definitely get the programming cable in you plan to program in a lot of repeaters or frequencies for monitoring.

I was going to start answering the questions, but jeezus.. I have to be in bed in 3 hours. Good luck.

Did it come with the tiny mag-mount antenna? If so, that antenna works surprisingly well IF you can mount it on the roof of your vehicle. If you are mounting the antenna anywhere else the larger MXTA26 works great - Yesterday was at Fremont Peak Rd near Hwy 395 in So.Cal, and was talking to a guy on his mobile radio on a hill above Silverwood Lake in So. Cal, exactly 63 miles away, and he was coming in loud and clear. You could use any "UHF" antenna, but you would have to cut/trim/tune it before you use it. If you buy a "GMRS" antenna like the MXTA26, you just take it out of the sack and put it on your car, no need for tuning or cutting.

Is FCC considering Digital on part of the GMRS band
OffRoaderX replied to WRUE951's topic in General Discussion
I think that just because two ham guys were talking about it does not mean it is true or accurate, but assuming it is, just because the FCC is considering it does not mean it will ever happen, and if it does ever happen, it will likely take years before it is approved. -
UNLOCKING WOUXUN KG-UV3X PRO PORTABLE RADIO
OffRoaderX replied to nokones's question in Technical Discussion
The KG-UV3X, like most of the Wouxun radios, are not unlockable. But, why would you need it unlocked for RDF? Isnt that all receive-only? PS - he's more than just a "jeep guy".. He is a human being with feelings... and a Nissan. -
Can I monitor HAM radio frequencies with a GMRS License?
OffRoaderX replied to WRWP693's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
You're still getting it wrong. According to the FCC's public enforcement database, its not that they do not take actions quickly, it is that statistically, they do not take action at all.. With about 6 enforcements for the things you are referring to, in the last 11 or 12 years. -

In your world are there unicorns too? Is the FCC in the room with us now? -
The newer ones with the USB-C connector can be set to Wide-Band.. Older ones cannot.

If i recall correctly (i have given my 5X away to someone) there is no NOAA "mode", you simply select the NOAA channel you want to listen to in channel mode. -

How to attract more young people into the Amateur Radio Hobby
OffRoaderX replied to WRUE951's topic in General Discussion
99.99% of hams i have met in person were very pleasant and are not sad-hams. It's when you go online that the sad-hams thrive, and thats where the young people go to learn, and often the first thing they run into is a sad-ham. That is what happened to me - I went online and had the audacity to ask questions about the test or electrical theory or something that I didnt understand, and it was quickly made clear to me that people asking such questions were not welcome in this exclusive club. Not just once, but multiple times, in multiple places. I see it here every day, and have even seen it a few times already in this thread. HUNDREDS of my viewers have also commented on my videos that the exact same thing happened to them, so the impact of sad-hams cannot be denied.. I am actually thankful because when the sad-hams turned me off from ham I found GMRS and realized that I dont want/need a "hobby", I just needed a better way to communicate on the trail - and GMRS does that perfectly for me. The sad part is that most sad-hams dont realize that they are the ones giving a bad name to their hobby, and also giving me more material to make fun of. -

How to attract more young people into the Amateur Radio Hobby
OffRoaderX replied to WRUE951's topic in General Discussion
Now try actually reading what I wrote: The amateur hobby is killing off POTENTIAL NEW members - if you don't believe this to be true then either your head is buried in the sand or you are part of the problem. I dont give a sh!t one way or another, they already killed me off as a potential member long ago, i just think it's humorous when sad-hams try to pretend this is not an issue. -

Any Tips For Someone Thinking of Getting A H.A.M. License?
OffRoaderX replied to OffRoaderX's topic in Amateur Radio (Ham)
Thank you. I was skeptical until I saw how long you've been a H.A.M., but now I am very impressed. -
No, I just know that "some people's" entire hobby revolves around finding strange men talk with, and I think Grindr is a great way for them to do that. I'm just looking out for them.

Baofeng uv-5g wont communicate with Midland 1000
OffRoaderX replied to ShaneF's question in Technical Discussion
.... ^ that... -
If you have purchased GMRS radios to 'make contacts' or to find strangers to talk with, then you have purchased the wrong type of radios, as talking with strangers and 'making contacts' is not what GMRS is intended for. It sounds like H.A.M. radio or the Grindr app might be better choices for you.

Wide/Narrow has nothing to do with it because that would not prevent them from transmitting/hearing each other. The issue is he is trying to transmit in frequency/VFO mode, which you cannot do on UV-5G radios.. Assuming there are no incorrect tones, putting the radio in channel/MR mode and set the correct GMRS "channel" should make everything work.
