  1. I setup my RT97 on a hill in the desert and got several miles of farz in all directions, where transmitting on simplex had no range (because of the hills). I got mine from retevissolutions.com, but I would have got it on Amazon if it was available due to faster shipping and the painless return policy.
  2. Remove all the RX tones from all channels and see how that goes.
  3. Should we guess what the trouble is, or will you let us in on the secret at some point?
  4. Are they required to? I wish some very smart person could explain the rules in detail along with the meaning and intent of the FCC's wording so I can be sure that I fully understand. The more-detailed, the better, that way I know they're right.
  5. Just a pure guess, but the Rocky Talkie is probably transmitting at Narrowband.. See if there is an option to change it to WIDEband (probably isn't), or see if there is an option on the Garmin to switch to narrowband.
  6. I ended up spending all my money on a shortwave radio and a scanner.. Now I'll have to wash a few more cars to get one of these..
  7. Our Zello channel is linked to our Southern California repeater -both the Zello and the repeater are open for any licensed GMRS user to use.. Zello channel is named 'Notarubicon GMRS 700 Repeater' .. https://zello.com/NAR700 Almost 5,000 Zello users are approved/subscribed to use this channel but most are extremely shy and never talk/transmit. We also just changed frequencies on the repeater so its a bit quite right now while everyone figures out that its changed.
  8. The word is CONFUCKULATED ...
  9. Our Delta repeater in Southern California easily gets farz of 60+ miles, with the record so far being 120 miles from its location near Mt. Baldy California to Chiriaco Summit east of Palm Springs.
  10. I've just confirmed: There is no way to sign-up on the website for a free account. The only way to create a new free account is via the app on either Android or iOS
  11. Are you using the Zello app? IIRC, you can only sign up using the app.
  12. EDIT: ...nevermind.. i'm out
  13. No, just plug and play.. The only thing to be careful of is to not exceed the INPUT power of the RT91 - for example if you're using it with a mobile radio that outputs 15W, make sure you put the radio on low-power.
  14. I have used my RT91 with several radios with no problems.
  15. This is the funniest F*king thread i've seen in a long time. You guys are a great resource for me!
  16. Crestline-575 does sometimes run NXDN, and yah, it does break the rules - but as everyone knows, that doesn't matter because the FCC will never do anything.
  17. I turned my radio off a week ago and it will probably stay off, except for when I need comms when off-roading.
  18. Its not.. i've caught 2 people jamming our local repeater in the last few month.. Turned out that both were supposed 'friends' ... It seems that radios just attract a certain kind of assholery.
  19. For the power, are you measuring the power directly out of the radio, or out of the duplexer? For the low-volume radio, are you certain that the radio programmed to the rep15 channel is transmitting in WIDEband, and that both your KG-1000s are also set at WIDEband?
  20. Did they explain how the radios hack into and connect to a WiFi with a password? PS - I am not only a Navy Pilot, but also an Army General, so you should listen to what I say.
  21. I just did what the words on the direction-sheet said to do - dont over think it.
  22. I have a 1486 that I have used with my KG1000G, my XTL5000, my repeater made of two KG1000Gs and my VXR7000 repeater. it works very well - on simplex i'm getting 40+ miles with it. Per the instructions I cut all 3 elements, and IIRC, the SWR was about 1.01:1 . Ignore anyone that tells you to not follow the manufacture's instructions how how/what to cut.
  23. ...just please.. for the love of Xenu, do not do it in the middle of a conversation - wait for them to finish.
