Installing duplexer in VXR-7000 question
OffRoaderX replied to WROC658's question in Technical Discussion
The CW-ID will only transmit the ID when someone transmits something and AFTER it has been at least XX seconds... In other words, if the repeater is quite/nobody is using it for several hours there will be no CW-ID transmitted until the next guy uses the repeater. -

Yes, I think they are the duplexer equivalent of a UV-5R. -

If i recall, when you are running in Dealer-mode, there is an option buried somewhere to specify the output for low and high. -
Any Tips For Someone Thinking of Getting A H.A.M. License?
OffRoaderX replied to OffRoaderX's topic in Amateur Radio (Ham)
Jeezus Krist this is gold.. Never would I have dreamed this would have worked out so perfectly to plan.. I get that "reading social cues" and comprehending non-literal things is not some of your guy's strong points, but, OMG. So predictable! Thank you all so much for proving me right, again! -

Installing duplexer in VXR-7000 question
OffRoaderX replied to WROC658's question in Technical Discussion
It's been a long time since I was inside mine, but IIRC it's a pretty simple operation, but my pointer/advice would be to download the Technical Manual and read through it. I believe it has a blow-by-blow account of how to add a duplexer. After installing be sure to adjust your power output to the appropriate level.. even if you're putting in a "50W" duplexer, those little ones usually lie so you'll probably want to reduce the output a smidge. -

The H.A.M.s shall reap what they sow while i use my "cheap Chinese toys" ... -
462 is always the output (your RX) and 467 is always the input (your TX). If you have a 'real' GMRS radio you dont need to worry about that, you just pick the correct repeater 'channel', which will already have the tx and rx setup.

Any Tips For Someone Thinking of Getting A H.A.M. License?
OffRoaderX replied to OffRoaderX's topic in Amateur Radio (Ham)
Well, this thread went exactly as I predicted. A very sincere thank you to everyone that posted helpful tips to get licensed, actually answered the question and stayed on topic - you guys give us all hope that ham has a future. But thank you even more for "some people" doing to this thread, which simply asked for some tips, exactly what "some people" do best.. Proving yet another of the things that I say so often, that "some people" keep declaring is not true/I make it up. -
VXR-7000U programming questions PLEASE HELP
OffRoaderX replied to WROC658's question in Technical Discussion
IIRC, you have to be in the previously mentioned "dealer mode" to change the CW-ID (morse code ID) -
VXR-7000U programming questions PLEASE HELP
OffRoaderX replied to WROC658's question in Technical Discussion
Mine lets me program all channels, so I'm not sure why yours would all be greyed out, but I only ever need/use one channel so if mine were greyed out i would have never noticed. Running the program in "Dealer Mode" will give you access to more options and features. To run in Dealer mode, add "-d" (without the quotation marks) to the end of the program name/path in the Target box of the shortcut that you use to run the program. -

My Wouxun KG935+ showing random numbers when listening to local ARC.

Mine does this when it detects DTMF tones/IDs, by design. -
Help with my novice question regarding my GMRS handheld
OffRoaderX replied to WRXJ732's topic in General Discussion
If you are hitting the repeater you should hear a 'kerchunk' or static-blip when you unkey. So yah, you might be doing something wrong, but it's hard to tell with the information you have provided. -
I paid about $99 for my Tram 1486 which is on one section (9 feet) of a telescoping flagpole, attached to the chimney, no guy-wires. I get about 50 miles of farz and have not worried about it since I put it up 2 years ago, making it, by definition, a "worry free" base antenna. I use it as both a repeater antenna and as a base-station (simplex) antenna.

IT PAYS TO BE PREPARED WITH GMRS FOR EMERGENCIES
OffRoaderX replied to nokones's topic in General Discussion
I bet that was "Auto Repair Randy" in Salton City! He's always monitoring that repeater.. We chat every time i go 4X4ing anywhere in the area. -
There may be other ways to get the repeater information such as the local ham/GMRS group or by scanning the input frequency with a radio that can scan for the tone, then connecting to the repeater and calling out/asking for permission, or just using it until someone tells you to not use it.
-
You can try sending a direct message to the listed owner of the repeater, but if he doesn't respond to his repeater-requests, he probably wont respond to his direct-messages either.

help with connecting and receiving transmission from repeater
OffRoaderX replied to WRXJ907's topic in General Discussion
That guy is a clown..and a shill for all the cheap Chinese radio companies that tell him what to say, and he doesn't know what he's talking about because he doesn't have a H.A.M. license.. I know all this because he lives rent-free in so many people's heads here at MyGMRS that keep watching and then complaining about his videos even though they hate him so much... So all that stuff must be true. -
help with connecting and receiving transmission from repeater
OffRoaderX replied to WRXJ907's topic in General Discussion
how close are the two radios to each other when you're testing? Try getting the two radios at least 50 feet apart and try again. -
Sounds like you are connecting, and it sounds like it is a 'simplex' repeater which records what you say, then re-transmits it.

I have convinced dozens of friends to join the "GMRS fun" ... ...they all hate me now and think that I'm weird.
