  1. No. You would need to cut/trim the main (up and down) portion to get it tuned for GMRS. If you cut it too short, it could then be 'damaged', at least for use on GMRS. I would not attempt this without an SWR meter.
  2. Obviously Norton needs to relax.
  3. Question: What time is it? "Some People": The heart of a mechanical clock is the escapement mechanism, which is responsible for maintaining accurate timekeeping by allowing the clock's gears to rotate at a steady rate. The escapement mechanism typically consists of a pair of gears called the escape wheel and the verge. The escape wheel is driven by the clock's main power source, which is typically a weight or a spring, while the verge is connected to the clock's hands. As the escape wheel rotates, it drives the verge, which in turn moves the clock's hands. The escapement mechanism also includes a device called the pallet, which acts as a brake on the escape wheel, preventing it from rotating too quickly and keeping the clock's hands moving at a steady pace. In addition to the escapement mechanism, a mechanical clock also contains other components such as the mainspring, which provides the power to drive the clock, the gear train, which transmits power from the mainspring to the escapement mechanism, and the pendulum, which helps to regulate the clock's timekeeping by swinging back and forth at a constant rate.
  4. IIRC, the software started giving warnings a couple of years before the mandate - so I always set it WAY back so I dont have to click through those warnings.
  5. All you have to do is roll-back the clock on your PC to 2005 or something like that and then it will upload your Wideband settings fine. Report back if that works or not.
  6. Are you sure you're on high-power? Both my retevis and the Midland get 5-6W ..
  7. We have two repeaters that cover virtually all of Southern California and the use of roger-beeps is very strongly encouraged.. This discourages "some people" from using the repeaters making for a more pleasant repeater experience for everyone. One of the repeaters also has it's own roger-beep.
  8. The official answer is "It depends" ...
  9. ................................................. affiliate link below
  10. Someone sent me a message today that when they called the FCC to see why it wasnt working, the FCC lady said they were having "system problems" and do not know when it will be fixed - but she was able to email invoice to him so he was able to pay for his license.
  11. Sorry, Spectrum upload speeds suck!
  12. Spoiler-alert: Its not exactly the same as something you've seen before..
  13. I call BULLSHIT - just another Sad-HAM disguised as a GMRS user. YOUR radio YOUR choice - if the sad-HAM control freaks dont like it, they can change the channel.. HOWEVER - as you mentioned, if the repeater owner requests that you not use a roger-beep on his repeater, then following the wishes of the equipment owner who's equipment you are using would be the polite thing to do, IMO..
  14. My approval page is doing the same thing.. Cant approve anything.
  15. Hey @sjmahlerthanks for the dimensions.. is the case on the 97S made of plastic or metal?
  16. I had this issue with my RT97 and had to change the comport assignment to 1 or 2 using Device Manager - sounds like you tried that, but just in case you meant something else give that a try. Also - would you mind measuring the size of your 97S? I would like to see if its larger than my RT97 ..
  17. It means they need to turn off their radio for a few minutes and go outside and get some sunshine.
  18. There is an easy way to fix this: Turn the knob to a different channel.
  19. The antennas on both my Jeeps (LJ and JK) are mounted on the tailgate. Not a perfect groundplane but plenty 'good enough'.
  20. They wont be for sale until the 18th so nobody has one..... I have one, but i cant talk about it until the 18th..
  21. this may be a first, but I agree with Mr WRKC935 - Unless you really know what you are doing and more importantly WHY you are doing it, I would recommend not taking the risk of upgrading the radio. Source: I own several XTL5000s, XTS5000s and XTS2500s - i've never put any through an upgrade because its too risky and I have too many friends that ended up with very expensive bricks - and they dont even know why they did it.
  22. Have you tried it from a different web-browser or different computer?
  23. You would have to contact the repeater owner to find out the "tones" to access the repeater and how much they charge for its use.
  24. All GMRS radios work out of the box to transmit on the basic 22 GMRS channels. You only need to "program" it if you want to use a repeater, add custom listen-only channels or modify preferences. How you program the radio depends on the radio but its usually fairly simple and explained in the user-manual - usually you just press the menu option on the radio and scroll through the settings/make changes. Many radios can also be programed/changed by plugging them into a computer and using the manufacturer's software.
  25. That video is about the UV-5R, a ham radio. The UV-5G is a GMRS radio, and much more simple to use when it comes to repeaters. Let us know how it goes after trying @Borage257's steps.
