Motorola XTL2500 Upgrade Failed.
OffRoaderX replied to Luish19779's question in Technical Discussion
this may be a first, but I agree with Mr WRKC935 - Unless you really know what you are doing and more importantly WHY you are doing it, I would recommend not taking the risk of upgrading the radio. Source: I own several XTL5000s, XTS5000s and XTS2500s - i've never put any through an upgrade because its too risky and I have too many friends that ended up with very expensive bricks - and they dont even know why they did it. -
You would have to contact the repeater owner to find out the "tones" to access the repeater and how much they charge for its use.

Complete newb question about first radio
OffRoaderX replied to mak823's question in Technical Discussion
All GMRS radios work out of the box to transmit on the basic 22 GMRS channels. You only need to "program" it if you want to use a repeater, add custom listen-only channels or modify preferences. How you program the radio depends on the radio but its usually fairly simple and explained in the user-manual - usually you just press the menu option on the radio and scroll through the settings/make changes. Many radios can also be programed/changed by plugging them into a computer and using the manufacturer's software. -
That video is about the UV-5R, a ham radio. The UV-5G is a GMRS radio, and much more simple to use when it comes to repeaters. Let us know how it goes after trying @Borage257's steps.

I had pretty good drone setup that I used to make videos, but the rules got tougher, it got harder to fly in a lot of areas, and I dont make that kind of videos anymore.. So I sold it all earlier this year. This was the last video I made with my drone - also got help from a friend that has one of those fancy 'stunt-drones":
-
The NotaR never posted a video telling you to manually enter a +5Mhz offset on the UV-5G... Source: I've watched all NotARubicon videos.. Even the old ones. @Borage257 is correct: Select correct repeater channel, enter tone, done..

Programing Cable for a Wouxun kg-905g
OffRoaderX replied to WRVF645's question in Technical Discussion
Glad you got it figure out, but its weird that it runs fine on my Windows 10 machine AND on Windows 11-ARM running on my Mac in Parallels without having to futz with any of the compatibility settings.. I hate Windows... -
1) On the repeater channel - Tune to that channel then go into the CTCS/DCS RX and TX setting - it will save the tones to the channel you're on - OR do it in the software (much easier that way) 2) IIRC, you can only do this in the software - IF you can do it at all. Some radios let you change it, others dont (I play with too many different radios to remember which ones do/dont allow it) 3) See what @wrci350already posted

I heard a rumor that a GMRS YouTuber will be making a video in the next few weeks showing how "compatible" the Retevis 40W amp is with the RT97 repeater.

Contrary to incorrect information posted here, there is no place to enter a latitude and longitude and entering a lat/long in the search does not appear to work - you drag the marker to the correct location, as indicated by the instructions on the page. If the dragging isn't working, try a different web-browser or a different computer.
-
No.. The new GMRS repeater coming out in January is very similar to the Retevis RT97 - with the same wattage..
-
I've had two of these radios, and have 2 friends with them, and no, never seen this happen.. BuyTwoWayRadios will take care of it for you.

I put Kaf6045 on my "3rd-grade hall monitor block list" a long time ago so i dont know what he posted, but, It is important to know the rules.. It is also important to understand the risks and what happens in the real world.. The head of your GMRS group is correct, it is no more of an issue than rolling through a stop-sign is an issue, as the FCC, based on their published record of enforcement, does not care.

I've had 3 different repeaters over the last two years: DIY 2 KG-1000Gs Retevis RT97 Vertex VXR-7000 All using the same ~$120 Tram 1486 base antenna and 75 feet of LMR400 coax The two KG-1000Gs was the most expensive (~$875) and had the most power - but it was also the most unwieldy and issue-prone The RT97 was a much more compact package, and was the least expensive (~$400), but only output about 4-5watts after the duplexer and has a limited duty-cycle The Vertex VXR-7000 (what I currently use) is by far the best solution. I paid $500 for mine (used), it puts out ~25 watts after the duplexer and it can be used 24/7 (100% duty cycle) - But because of its age its a bit of a pain to program/get set up. My recommendation, based on my experience, would be to try and get a good used commercial repeater (like the VXR-7000) OR an RT97. Next month another company will be releasing a new GMRS repeater very similar to the RT97 but easier to configure - but i'm not allowed to talk about that yet.. So you might want to wait and see if that one works better for your needs.

let me boil down the political part for you: Potential major health/ecological disaster known and looming since 2000 or so. If not prevented will adversely affect the health of millions of people from Los Angeles to Phoenix The State of California passes a bill in 2003, which among other things assures us all that everything will be fine by 2017 2017 comes and goes with nothing done OTHER than millions of $$ spent on "studies" to prove what everybody already knows 2022 and now doing anything will be 10 years too late, and any solution will cost 10X more to 'fix' than it would have cost to prevent.. Most estimates say $5-$10 billion- Instead of taking any action, the State of California spends $15-Billion $$ on the worlds slowest bullet train to nowhere, that nobody will ever use. Basically, nobody in Sacramento gives a sh!t, and they've been kicking the can down the road for 20 years. I'm moving to Utah, to everyone stuck in So.Cal/So.Arizona, good luck!

Lithium mining will be great for the local economy, but it wont really help the big problem of the lake drying up and exposing toxic dust.. The lithium mining companies would prefer it if the lake was dried up because lithium mining (which is more like oil-drilling than 'mining') is easier on a dry lake bed than it is underwater.
-
Of course this is great, but it is just a tiny step in the right direction.. Salton Sea will need at least this much if not more EVERY YEAR just to prevent it from turning into a trash-hole.. Sadly, this will not "save" the sea or do anything significant to prevent/stop the looming toxic-dust issue.

There are also people like you and me rolling through stop-signs every night, which might be a better comparison. To compare breaking an FCC rule to murder is absurd and something only a true "sad HAM" would say. So.. Congratulations.

I'm not sure what you're asking, but, the answer is no.
