  1. On mine it doesn't look like it, but just to be safe i wouldn't play with it in the bathtub.
  2. I had a very early unit and the antenna came right off. Since then I have seen reports ranging from people just needing to give it a rough-twist to get it off to not even being able to get it off with a crowbar and a hammer. For BTech to get certification for the radio the antenna must be non-removable (because it transmits data).. Once word got out that they were easily removable it looks like BTech upp'd their glue-game.
  3. I have heard rumors that they will be available for sale beginning the last week of July, and on the same day the worlds most popular and most widely-loved GMRS YouTuber will be releasing a video about all 4 of the new antennas. But, you know, those are just rumors...
  4. Yup.. a small group of idiots that we call The Kiddy Kartel decided they didnt like it when a few founders of the group that put Delta up talked and started jamming them all the time, so we said "F-that" and repurposed it.
  5. RX 462.600 - DCS 023 TX 467.600 - DCS 023 Now Google has it and there is no getting that toothpaste back into the tube.
  6. Wrong.. The website has told the members of this forum to request access, not the repeater owner. This specific repeater is open to everyone, as is very plainly spelled-out in bold letters in the description of the repeater. The website does not give an option to NOT display the "request access" button. Try again Perry Mason...
  7. They think that for the same reason you think it's ok roll through stop signs or drive 40 in a 35Mph zone. Why do you think those laws don't apply to you?
  8. Like it or not, you have to admit the threat of beating or death keeps the child-labor QC results very high on these things!
  9. This is literally the first time I have ever heard of a UV-5R that was DOA.. I've purchased over a dozen, and know probably 100+ people that have also purchased them, so it is likely not a pattern. That said, virtually anything is a step up.
  10. No, but I bet if you posted this as a new topic/question, some of the other members could.
  11. Almost 7 pages of nothing more than pure self-absorbed grammatical masterbation and, as expected, nothing actually accomplished. Great job everyone, you're making GMRS a better place!
  12. Yes
  13. Have you double/triple checked the TX tone and frequency?
  14. People started telling me about this a few months ago and I thought they were full of it, but I finally saw the listing on Amazon... My biggest issue I see is the confusion it will cause when telling "some people" that you're using a UV-5R on GMRS - "some people" wont know if they should report you to the FCC or not. Rumor has it that a very popular and beloved YouTuber will be making a video about this in the coming days.
  15. I have used one and it worked great. If you get it from your link they will tune it the the specific frequency you want when you order it. Just dont put the full 50W through it as it probably wont last long.. If you burn it out using a 50W radio they will replace it within the warranty period, but if you limit your power to ~30Watts or so, it will last much longer.
  16. Look in the menu at Common|CW ID I don't remember if you even need Dealer mode for that, but if its not there, then you didnt setup dealer mode correctly.
  17. The KG-UV9GX has a sexier wrist-strap.
  18. So i think what we have learned here today is that just because you experienced something does not mean everyone else will experience the exact same thing in the exact same way, especially when there are many variables at play such as coax type and length, electrical cable quality and lengths, terrain, different antennas, differently tuned duplexers, etc.. However, most importantly, today we learned that decreeing a fact based upon ones personal experience can make a person look like an "internet expert", aka "some people".
  19. I did eventually try to shield it to improve the signal but I could never really improve much.. From the beginning, with the two radios right next to each other with zero shielding, I was getting ~20 miles.
  20. Desense is an issue, but please explain to us all how i was able to communicate 20+ miles with my two KG1000G's setup as a repeater package.
  21. Pure..Gold.... I cant thank you all enough.
  22. The CW-ID will only transmit the ID when someone transmits something and AFTER it has been at least XX seconds... In other words, if the repeater is quite/nobody is using it for several hours there will be no CW-ID transmitted until the next guy uses the repeater.
  23. Yes, I think they are the duplexer equivalent of a UV-5R.
