I am going to go out on a limb and guess that I have probably used and owned more GMRS radios than anyone else here - and in my not humble opinion, the answer is "it depends" ...
Usually, but not always, a higher priced radio will be better built, last longer and have more features than a less expensive one.. But not always.
And, 50Watts is not necessarily the best - in most cases, for most people, usually, a 20W radio will give you just as many fars as a 50W radio when doing normal-people communications - your geography/terrain will usually limit your fars more than the watts, most of the time, on average, in most scenarios.
For what you have indicated you want, I would say to check out the Wouxun XS20G or the KG-1000G .. If you want SUPER SIMPLE (but limited), look at one of the Midland 40 or 50W models.
Based on my experience, and the experience of hundreds of personal friends (in my offroad/radio groups) and thousands of online 'friends', I would be cautious of the very cheap high-power mobile radios like the Btech, due to their high failure rate.  Also keep in mind that EVERY manufacturer sells duds - so you will hear horror stories about ANY radio.. The thing to pay attention to is how often does that happen and to your point about customer support, how well does the company take care of them.  Midland and Wouxun both have overall very good reputations of good support.

That video is for the UV-5R which is a H.A.M. radio. Look for a video showing how to setup a repeater on a GMRS radio because the process is very different (MUCH easier on GMRS).
    Basic steps are:
ID what repeater channel to use based on the frequency of the repeater enter the transmit tone (receive tone is optional) there is no 3.. you're done - the whole thing should take about 30 seconds.

As is very clearly documented on the webpage dedicated to the Zello channel, which anyone that knows how to operate Google would find in 3 seconds, the NAR700 Zello channel was shut-down after being in operation for over 3 years, due to hardware issues.
Now please explain to everyone here how in your tiny brain this was a scam, and even better, how the Zello channel, which cost ~$1k dollars out of my pocket to get online, in any way monetizes any Youtube channel.
    ..idiot..

Unfortunately, price isn’t always a great determiner of value.  A highly skilled engineer working in a country where wages are a fraction of another country is capable of designing a high quality radio for much less than an equally skilled engineer in one of the countries where engineers are highly paid.  American engineers don’t have a monopoly on scientific knowledge.
Statistically speaking, taking two competing products, both designed in the same economic area, the one that has a greater dedication of resources (for design, manufacturing, QC, and support) will generally reflect a higher customer satisfaction and have a higher price.
Sales price for mass produced items will be largely dependent on the cost of production and after sales support, once the sunk cost of design has been covered. Despite our national pride, very high quality items can and are produced in countries with low labor costs.
So, unfortunately, price isn’t an easy predictor of quality. A company’s (recent) reputation is a more reliable predictor.

I really like the BTech and Baofeng HTs and have had great luck with them.

On the mobile side, a couple of years ago, I acquired 4 BTech mobile radios. The first 3 didn't make it a whole 3 weeks, combined use. The 4th worked okay, but the screen washed out when the roof and doors were off the Jeep. I sold it to a member here, and last I heard, they were happy with it. With a 75% failure rate, I'm going to wait on trying another one until people are bragging about them like the TD-H3 gets love now.

OffRoaderX got a reaction from amaff in new to GMRS question on Baofeng GM-15 Pro
Whoever told you that lied to you. The Baofeng GMRS radios are fully FCC Part 95 certified for use on GMRS. The reason they are being pushed around the GMRS community is because they are inexpensive, and fully within the FCC rules to use.
and FWIW, i find it hilarious that you include your email addresses in your signature to make it so easy for people to "connect" with you.

OffRoaderX got a reaction from Gnarlykaw in Surecom SW-102 vs. MFJ-842
    "worth" is a subjective term.
If all you are going to do is check an antenna once in a while, then the SW-102 is perfectly fine.. It's not perfect, its not the best in the world, but it only costs $60, and it is more than plenty good-enough for most normal people.
I have read that the MFJ *might* be a *little* more accurate, sometimes, but again, for most normal people the SW102 is perfectly accurate enough.
Whether that slight, minor bit of possible tiny extra accuracy is worth an extra $22.. only you can decide.
The SW102, in my not very humble opinion is also much easier to use and read, so many people prefer it for that reason alone...

BEWARE of "some people" that love to spend other people's money and will decree that the SW102 is "cheap chinese junk!!!1" - even though it works just fine for hundreds of thousands of normal people.. They should be completely ignored.. and laughed at...

OffRoaderX got a reaction from WSCV533 in Portable radio based repeater???
The English on that webpage is suspect, but that aside, it says this is for making a cross-band repeater (RX on UHF, TX on VHF or visa-versa) - that means that the two radios sitting next to each other would not be much of an issue. But if you set your radios to work as a GMRS repeater (RX on 467.xxx and TX on 462.xxx) there would be much desense (the radios making each other deaf because they are too close) unless you set them at least 10-15 feet apart... But I've never used something like this so I would like to see what anyone with experience has to say.
Something like the Retevis RT97 would do exactly what you want, but it costs a bit more.

The fact that the OP, and a thousand others have to ask this question, prove that this is incorrect.  It might be written down somewhere, but the fact that nobody knows and even less people abide by it shows that, in the real-world, this is incorrect.
as @Sshannon said, there is no [widely-recognized] call channel IN USE - to refer to some outdated and UNUSED reference is disingenuous at best.

OffRoaderX got a reaction from WSDB299 in TidRadio H8 HAM on GRMS channels with 10 watts? What high powered radios are open channels?
Yes, you can do that, and nobody would care...
But dont forget that the HAM version does not have "channels", so you would have to program them all as you mentioned, and also manually set & configure your repeater channels.. Not a big deal if you know/understand how to do that, but based on your question I am guessing that you may not know how.
Also, as I'm sure you know, there is virtually 0 difference in farz between 8 watts and 10 watts - the only difference you will see is the battery draining faster.
