Just drill a hole. My F150 has 6 NMO mounts and 2 GPS. It had 12 miles on it when I tore the truck apart.

Rich doesn't moderate. Nor lock threads over time. He said he can't have moderators unless he pays them and its not finacially feasable. so this forum is a mess. Not much any of us can do. If he would at least lock threads over 60 days maybe that would help some but then we would start yet another 1000th thread on why my CCR wont hit the repeater. -

This is why my rpeeaters are not published in the open. Myself and my friends spends alot of money on maintenance, equipment and tower fees. It comes from my pocket. If my friends give me somecash towards it then fine but its not about that. I can see a club having a site thats costs and dues would help keep it at a good site vs a garage repeater. At one point a site we were in housed a 220 rpt for the local ham club. My agreement was donate to our electric bill annually. Somehow bills need paid. -

Maybe you should let American Tower and Crown castle know this because they dont care if its HAM or not. Its still $X per foot on the tower per month with liability and all the other stuff. -

FCC Shutdown of New York GMRS Linked Repeater System
gortex2 replied to OffRoaderX's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
You keep sayign this was a "rougue" linked system. It was a simulcast system in NY and NY only. Not sure why this system gets singled out but the others aren;t ? I just looked a the main page and see this area of linked repeaters are they not rougue ? The "inside dope" as you call it is a well respected radio tech in the LMR/Public Safety world in his area. I dont know you folks think the real LMR world operates but its not even remotely like GMRS or HAM radio and the guys in the field know what they are doing. I dont understand how all these keyboard warriers are so smart yet there is a definate need for RF guys in that field. -
FCC Shutdown of New York GMRS Linked Repeater System

I have to agree with @marcspaz on this one. Its all varue and until the FCC actually changes rules it will be. The system in question regardless of what you think was a simulcast voted system. To me that 100% different than a linked repeater all over the US or state. Its the same input and output on each repeater. In the past there were multiple voted GMRS repeaters that REACT teams and others used. Back then it was 4W circuits on microwave. It worked and worked well. It really wastn't until GMRS turned into HAM lite that this linking crae started. I'm for one looking forward to see what the FCC comes back with but to be honest other than the folks on this forum 99% of the GMRS user base could care less. They push a button and talk. -
FCC Shutdown of New York GMRS Linked Repeater System
gortex2 replied to OffRoaderX's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
You keep throwing out the kml data but you refuse to share it. I know the area well and know what repeaters were in use. Its a pretty tight community in that area when it comes to the radio field. At this point it doesn't matter as its off and will stay that way. -
LOL. Well the muscle car is basically a garage vehicle...only 1200 miles on it... Wife kinda took over my JT once we took her JK for off road stuff. I have a work truck for most of my travel stuff.

FCC Shutdown of New York GMRS Linked Repeater System
gortex2 replied to OffRoaderX's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
The system in question did not charge members. Nor was the system linked to PA or NC. Only some Western NY stuff. -
There is a ton of info online for the kenwood stuff. The 690/790/890 series is a good unit. On UHF changing to low power its a great GMRS deck. I ran one of each in my truck for years. There is a on board jumper that gets touched depending on heads and other options. You may peak at that. https://www.repeater-builder.com/kenwood/pdfs/tk-890hb-svc-man.pdf I'd start with the manaul and double check stuff.

For handheld you can't beat the Motorola T600 series. I carry a pack in both jeeps and never had an issue with them. Drive over them, dropped in mud puddles and bounced around in the back. I use the handheld more than my mobile when off road. They are pretty cheap and dont require a license

I'd recomend the 8180 and not the 8180H. You wont see a difference in 30 vs 45 watts and if 90% of your use will be simplex and low channels being able to program 5 watts is better. No need for an LMR license unless you want an LMR frequency.

GMRS repeaters with gen/battery backup , is there a Gulf coast list?
gortex2 replied to WSCB609's topic in General Discussion
It all depends on the owner and the site. Many have no backup power but a well installed thought out repeater would. If there is a repeater yours curious about I'd ask the repeater owner. Thats the only true way to know for sure. -
Are you calling them on a repeater ? or simplex. Just call them by name. thats 99% of my traffic on GMRS/FRS. People get worked up over it and its not critical. Use it at the 15 minute time frame and use the service.

So for remote head I'd plug into deck unless you have a jumepr on the deck. Basically he asked if you have CTCSS or DPL set on the channel. If you program a monitor button it should make noise.
-
is this dash mount or remote head. Sorry may of missed that. If speaker is plugged into deck on dashmount thats where audio should come from.

So does it have the rear jumper plugged in for internal audio ? Pins 2 & 6 need to be jumpered. Constant Green LED is probably due to Squelch set to low.

The system in question is not remotely near NYC. Its 6+ hours NW of NYC....

First off no one knows my call sign around me. I dont plaster it on my vehicles nor even tell many folks I have it. It was and is still used for my familty use. Being I live in the country I really dont see neighbors calling me. Again why would I even remotely need to answer someone. Thats not why I got GMRS 25+ years ago. If I want to chat with someone I'll go to another service. Just becasue this service is now ham lite and everyone thinks they need to rag chew on a repeater or have a SHTF need for it doenst mean we all do. If the SHTF GMRS would be the last thing I was worried about.

What do yo uexpect from a repeater ?
