This means channel 19 and 20 are not to be used within closes proximity of Canada boarder. for the most part upper parts of MI and the north east states that are rather populated would be effected. west of MI the line is straight and not as populated.

Comparing CB past problem's are some what germane, I hope Legal licensed GMRS usurers would not use a busy travel channel and monitor if the activity that is germane to your geographic location and find info usable. To "chew the rag" keep it short or move to another channel. Licensed GMRs for common curtsy would announce there call sign a help keep the non Licensed users a bay some. Non-Licensed are free to lessen,  to those not giving a call sign one does not have to respond. I know there will alwyas be the "cowboy illegals"  upset the apple cart. If you want to worry about the few that don't play by any rules we will go on and on and NRVER advance the GMRS concept.  Remember the G in GMRS is general, Not just my close frinds or people that think like me. General invites ALL. A travle channel must first consider ALL in the picture. The majority of FCC rules are intended so ALL use the air-waves and get along. In time I see more GMRS getting licensed and seeing the benefits of  working togeter not dividing us. A GMRS travle channel should not be a repeater channel simplex only, no tones. as well as limited to a lower power in congested population high traffic locations.

Thats not the real-world that I live in, so i'm glad to see that for everyone like me not in an RF-heavy urban environment, the radios dont "suck" .. Because at first, based on your statement, us non-techy people might have misunderstood you to be saying "they suck", which it seems is not the always case, so thanks for clarifying.

You are cute.  And I was right.  You do indeed have a beef with @OffRoaderX .  So I was right.  Again.  (Bet that hurt.)
And I'll jump on your leg for one more round:  Canadians can now use channel channel 19.  So the line A rule is out of date.  That makes the whining about line A moot.  But I doubt it will make it mute, at least around here.
You call me a troll and yet you call names and sling insults.  Nice.  I think your fundamental problem is that you can't handle disagreement.  Hell, you've twice said you are done, and yet here you are.

I'm curious is if their is a GMRS programming software that can download GMRS repeaters directly from Mygmrs and input them into my GMRS radios, such as the GM-30 and the GM-5R? Similar to what CHIRP can do with Repeaterbook?  Looking forward to replies.  TIA,  73,...

30 day ago I started this post. It saddens me to see the amount of discourse it has provoked. I don't mind a spirited discussion, I don't have a strong opinion with this topic as some have expressed. A simple goal for licensed GMRS to be able to connect with others GMRS travelers should NOT be such a imposable hurtle. But it appear to be the case.
FCC rule is that GNRS is intended for general mobile radio using one license call sign for family and extended family.  I see no rule stopping two Licensed GMRS operators making casual contact. So why are we so divided?
If you don't wish to participate in a general  Consensus then don't. Just don't.  Stop trying impede others from ones freedom to associate.  This topic has got off in the weeds many times I guess that go with the "world of Forums"
I most of all would be considered weak in the written word/text and being miss understood. I get that, I have seen many well expressed points of view. Many good people looking for a command good as well.
I have read every post and come to a conclusion.  Some just don't want to play well with others.
I am sorry to say I will never make this mistake again.

Do we have a comprehension problem here? You will not let this fascination with a channel number go for some damned reason. I don't care what channel was decreed and I don't give any consideration to this video that you are so enamored with. It's irrelevant in the context of this thread. I thoroughly explained the reason for my outburst in my previous response. It was thoughtful, methodical, and covered! Period! If you want to keep going down fantasy avenue then fine. Enjoy the ride. I'm done trying to reason with you since you continue to make this into something that it wasn't.

Nearly all electronic gadgets we use show some parasitic drain on a car's battery. That is why I installed a battery monitor in the hot lead from the battery to the distribution block under the dash where all my 'gadgets' draw their power. If the battery voltage drops below 12.5 VDC, it will automatically disconnect the main power to the distribution block. I've never again had a problem starting the car due to a drained battery! $25 to preserve my sanity... ?

I think the FCC let the cat out of bag with ‘Channel Numbers’ for GMRS when they allowed hybrid FRS/GMRS radios years ago. The masses do not easily relate to frequencies, only channels (think TV, FRS, etc.). FRS radios before hybriding (if that is a term?) were originally 1-14 so the hybrids with GMRS became 1-24 with 1-14 remaining unchanged. And now with repeater support they are all 1-30.

Every FRS, Hybrid, and now the newer GRMS radio hav the concept of “channel numbers”; they are the memory numbers of the radio. On the programmable ones, the default programming of the part 95e radios uses the same memory numbers to represent the same frequencies, without exception to date. Since the programmable radios also allow for a custom name for the memory channel, they all are labeled as ‘GMRS 1’, ‘GMRS 21”, etc…).

While there are many long-time GMRSrs that have never thought of GMRS frequencies in terms of ‘Channel Numbers’, for better or worse, the manufacturers of type certified radios appear to have all adopted the use of the same number to mean the same frequency. Users that think in frequencies will now need to do some mental flip-flopping. Good for building brain cell connections I guess.

Two Yagi antennas pointed at each other will maximum your communications and minimize interference to others, esp at 50 watts on the repeater output channels: 462.550 etc.

the prevailing view is that the repeater input channels, 467.550 etc., are only to be used for input to a repeater
but perhaps there are virtual repeaters at each location?!? ?

all efforts must be taken to research your area and be sure you are not causing interference to any local repeaters

DownEastNC, my thought exactly. A GMRS travle channel what ever it is and how it is set should not be a problem. we just need to make it a service know to others is all I am saying. A travle channel will not be for everyone i know that. some places i have traveled i could be a detrimental to display anything other than my License plate.
Im sure Forum rule would prohibit anyone from advertising and making money from this site. I'm not talkng about that. The greater My GMRS.com community if organized could step up the game over a hand full of GMRS doing it themselves.
Here in Illinois we have two seasons, road construction months and to cold for road construction. Sitting in 4 or 6 lanes back up it would be nice to get the feel of what and how long this it is going to be. Cell phones or not, Now google maps have aided in this a lot, sometimes you can get a re-rout arond road closures. There is still time I wish I had my old CB to just lessen to truckers do just what i am saying. We all need to look-out for each other in this fast pace world.

You want to talk money, we're currently burning in a brand new hytera ip addressable repeater going up with a DB420 antenna. Easily over $3k without counting duplexer, lightning protection, and cable.

This will be at 950' in downtown Miami. Open to all. Part of the reason it's being done is the general "you stay off my repeater" vibe we picked up from looking at the local gmrs listings. It was baffling to see how unfriendly this side of the radio hobby can feel.

If there was a suggested or official GMRS travel channel, I would use it. I've also considered getting my own window decals that essentially say something like "GMRS - CH20" to let other's know what channel I'm monitoring, call sign optional.
I just recently made a two day turnaround, 350 miles each way, and had the radio on scan. I picked up some repeater chatter, a little car to car chatter, and in one city there was a road crew using a channel (I'm assuming on FRS) to direct traffic flow. Not one person chimed in and said "Break for that good looking guy in the pickup truck", so I was a bit disappointed in that respect. Perhaps if I had those decals the results would be different. ?
Jokes aside, I know that many aren't too keen on seeing GMRS go to the wild side like CB did back in the 70's. I wouldn't want that either but it would be nice to be able to reach out to get a traffic report or local information during the trip and hey, if you were really bored then just have a friendly chat on a side channel. Actually I don't believe two way radio will hit the frenzy like CB did years ago mainly because of mobile phones. Most folks are self absorbed with their phone and that's as far as they want to take it.
So if the GMRS community ever gets organized enough to have an official travel channel then I'll roll with it and if MyGMRS wants to crank out some decals then I'd be glad to pitch in on that too. My 2¢

White fingernail polishes, a sowing needle. The needles eyelet acts like a fountain pin reservoir. Less mess but stll might need two coats. Make sure to paint only the indent space, last a long time.
Many times a radios that the volume knob turns to easy I put a small dot at the preferred volume like a dial point on the base of the radio. My brand new Wouxun-935G has a nice grad protecting from turning so easly, it is very restricted/ friction to keep accidentally turning. (witch is a good thing).
