On my previous Rv I drilled thru the side with no issues another one I mounted an NMO in the ceiling and lots of sealant. But for field day on the present camper I ran the coax thru the slide out and down the flap came out on the bottom still too new, and don’t want to piss off the wife!
When looking at equipment the biggest fault I find is the part 90 vs part 95 debate. Esp when part 90 exceeds 95 requirements. There are many business band fire / emergency service radios sitting on shelves due to narrow banding and they make great gmrs equipment. Esp the repeaters. Better and cheaper than part 95 certifications. Glad there is a blind eye on their use. Untill you start causing problems....
I’ve had some interference mostly only on HF some from my router switch and from the tv I use for a monitor. Gotta love a 36” monitor lol.solved most of it by moving the radios to one side of the room and computer and associated cables to the other side. Most of the noise is gone. Tv,s are not as good in shielding as monitors are I have found. BUT a 36” monitor for the computer is fantastic almost don’t need the glasses!
Maybe it isn’t for “Points” but I have never been in radio for points. During past field days when we could all get together. I bring my camper and set it all up with my icom 7100 mostly for HF and have an existing dual band antenna in the camper for gmrs. I’m also set up for vhf, emergency services radio, and another for 2 meter. Many did not know about GMRS. One of the head people didn’t think we should have gmrs for demo. My comment was after all it is radio just like our vhf repeater only on UHF ( I have the 2 meter and my GMRS radio both on motorola GM 300’s) and FRS / GMRS is a start to get interest going. And during an emergency many people might just have the toy radios. Heck this year where we are doing field day from home we are also integrating ZOOM into the mix. The best part of this year doing it from home is I don’t have to figure out a covered dish Meal to share!
There are available NO GROUND antennas. They work fairly good price is good too https://www.theantennafarm.com/catalog/pctel-maxrad-muf4502-839 used on on my camper and my utv
All the tuner is doing is making your radio think you have a matched antenna. I’ve never tried a tuner on anything other than HF but it works there for me
Well I have 2 in the truck right now with a third I can put in when I will need it. 1, Motorola GM 300. Cant kill it! 2nd one is a quad band tyt9800. Great little radio that I have never had an issue with, 3rd, I just acquired a new Icom IC-7100 all band all mode radio that so far I’m 100% happy with. I could take out all the rest
Personally I wouldn’t worry about it. My station doesn’t id. And a famous west coast repeater is still on the air with no action against the owner of the repeater. K6MWT 147.4350 MHz Los Angeles Renegade Repeater.. https://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/14747/web If you’ve never listened to it before. Enjoy an education esp during commute time...
my repeater has been dead for about a year just sitting there sucking electricity thinking about shutting it down and just turn it on during hunting season after all there are just 2 of us up here licenced
Getting back to the original post.... broke.......between gmrs, gmrs repeater, ham, and all the toys there..... naw it isn’t really that bad...but... Now I need an amp, antenna, new radio......
