Could this 15 watt station possibly be like the “shotgun” setup used during linking repeaters?
-
The It’s because we have super secret thoughts and ideas here......and we had to put them away before new people found out!
-
thats what we did and if we wanted to get more specific on certain people we might add they are a “frequent flyer”. That help narrow down some info lol
-
Ah but with such a short space between the outside threads and the interior wire connection might the possibility exist that it might give some connection to the outside where the dielectric grease might be better as it is non conductive?

For many years we in the volunteer fire depts up here in northern Maine used 33.9 When skip was bad it would never shut up! Even one night had tones go off but was for a dept in another state. Still have a few of the transceivers around. Might have to dig one out and see if I can change the freq up a bit and play..experiment rather

I have one of those Wilson’s in vhf. Good little radio if it could still keep its programming. Mine looses it often. Oh well...may have to dig it out again..

I have something very similar to that I had forgotten about thanks for the reminder.. I’m more concerned about where they connect together and it being a fine thread thus the anti seize (the nasty silver stuff that gets over everything that is great for a prank underside of car door handle) lol
-
I’m looking for opinions. In this pictured is one of the 2 connections on a Tram 1491. I wish to improve on keeping the moisture out and be easy to take apart. My idea is anti seize on the threaded portion and a heat shrink tubing over joint plus quality tape over that. What are your thoughts. As I reAlly only want to climb the tower one time and the anti seize is a just in case. I have to go back up. Thanks in advance. Just realized I posted 2 male ends but you got the idea. It is a compression type fitting with a silicon compression gasket

Well it won’t be to a service that can be overrun with all the toys on frs all the combo units that people never got licensed for.. ignore it and collect the bucks from those that do get licensed. And now with the for every regulation 2must disappear I don’t see much happening on this freq cb or ham. Heck look at the famous repeater in calif on 2 meter. That would be so easy to shut down one letter to the owner. And they avoid that. Well best to keep the trouble on one set of freq. hams have problems on 7.200 also 14.313 but that has calmed down though.. might be because of the bands have slowed down All just speculation on my thought process

While we are talking tones.. is there a degradation of signal when using tones? Our local ham repeater was open till last week and due to interference it was decided to add a pl code to tx ...seems to me coverage went down a bit. Am I imagining it or ???

Coax / Wire Antennas; Curiouser and Curiouser
mainehazmt replied to WQWI871's question in Technical Discussion
When your talking a portable radio the practicality of putting crap on a portable is foolish. Get a mobile radio proper antenna and coax and be done with it. 1 you won't be taken serious in public with it. A good portable with a good antenna working on a good system doesn't require anything special. 2 miles with a portable should be it in planning..anything else is gravy -
If money is tight you can always build an antenna cheap. As far as the radio I have the same one and hit a few repeaters 3 times that distance. But that is also where repeaters a high enough As far as your setup I'd suggest getting a service meter and checking it Something isn't right
-
You can always install it up here. I promise as long as I'm alive you won't have to move it
-
He speaks the truth.... don't know how many times I've seen the same question about iding and a lot seem to think the repeater must....frustrating The rules are not hard to read...

National SOS Radio Network and Radio Relay International
mainehazmt replied to SteveH's topic in General Discussion
Steve, Is any of this being talked about in Augusta? At MEMA? -
Check out some Motorola gm300's good solid radio and cheap. I've used them for over 30 hard to kill. Easy to program up to 40- 45 watts all day
-
Well the bolts won't be rusted .....

Keeps you on your toes..

I'd think it would be permissible as it isn't hidden meanings or codes. I've even seen some gmrs frs radios with the code right on the front below the button to make the noise I mean code lol...

This past weekend at field day the local club held testing as usual. Several there encouraged me to test to upgrade. My response was I didn't feel comfortable yet as a general to upgrade. Several basically it will show you how the test is. They know I've been going over the pool questions. I just didn't think knowing the questions was good enough. A few of the older guys gave me the knowing approval over my not taking the test. Outside were others setting up field day ops with the portable tower and I hear one of the "extras" saying the plug doesn't match my radio (n connector). What do I do? I kept my mouth shut as im just a general... when do you people think it is right to upgrade? Let's not go the code no code route..

Heck with it 14 ga extension cord zip tied...no one gonna mess with my santa sleigh...

Join your local Cert and get involved with you local lepc and you can learn how it is all brought together. I know maine has a well functioning system. Ps those radios you showed are valuable and if working can still be used. Nothing wrong with the am band and there are a few nets that get on the air weekly. google boat anchor radio

Can't believe I'm actually saying this but....the radio you seek would violate even the modest interpretation of the present and new rules. Just because there is an earthquake doesn't mean a government entity can endorse this. Stick to frs 2 watt radios in about 90 days. John Q Public should not have access to frequencies they are not. Allowed on. This post seems to bring out a term I've known about along time. WACKERS! Got a vest to go with it? Sorry I know all about bending the rules and helped write the book but......just my opinion as a retired fire chief/ ems/ cert/hazmat/ incident commander/instructor for all of that.....

Now I gotta dig out a few I have.. great idea for a post
