  1. If so can you hear trunking data on 462.575 at full quieting?

I'd like to think it's a mix, but it sure sounds right on to me. Heard very strong in Obetz and can hear as far South as Circleville on mobile, so it makes me want to rule out harmonics, etc.

I'm in north Columbus. Can't hear anything.

  2. I bet they dropped the output power to 2W so they can use the same hardware as the MURS-V1 and maintain type acceptance. An interesting choice to make; the 2W finals must have also saved a fair bit of money in production in order for the GMRS-V1 to see the same change.

IMHO, They dropped it to be compliant with their FCC grant. They only got part 95 certification for a 2 watt radio.

  3. ok. So from what I can tell by reading some of the discussions on here, the uv-5r is not part 95 for HT even though i have a gmrs license? does this still stand if I use it as a base radio? I'm still green on these things so please be patient with me. I'm am trying to learn and understand so I can pass the right info to my family and friends. I have read through the part 95 rules but still a little confused. Basically I need layman terms.

No. You cannot use that radio at all on GMRS. It doesn't matter how you use it.

  4. Thank you for the information. One issue though, when I got my license at first, I payed $90 online through the FCC site, even when most people commented that it was only $70. Are there any other charges attached to this that I did not know at the time and that's why the extra charges?

The fees for a GMRS license have been reduced.

  5. I have a dozen of the Baofeng UV-5R radios that are programmed for all of the GMRS and MURS frequencies, as well as the 2-meter and 70-cm ham frequencies. They are easily programmable via computer and are dirt cheap on Amazon.

One thing I like about them is that they have an alphanumeric display so instead of having the frequency displayed, it can show the name of the channel or repeater, ie: GMRS 1, MURS 3, HON REP, etc. Or you can opt to have the frequency displayed if you prefer.

Bear in mind, use of a uv-5r is illegal on GMRS and MURS. They do not have part 95 certification.

  6. Well there really aren't even any GMRS bubble packs out there that even come close to 2 watts. Looking at Fcc data, most bubblepacks are below 1 watt. The industry has had the opportunity to make radios up to 5 watts; but none have done So. We will see, I guess.

  7. Okay, I see. Anyone know why those channels are shared?

The original 14 channel frs only radios did have those channels as narrow band. When they created frs, they dropped the frs channels in and between some pre existing GMRS frequencies.

When the New regulations take effect, sometime in the coming couple months, all 22 channels on bubble pack radios will be legal for frs users with a 2 watt limit. Frs users will be able to use the wide band channels.

  8. I thought channels 1-7 only required a GMRS license if being used above the legal FRS power limit considering those channels are FRS/GMRS shared and a lot of "bubble pack" radios have low/high power to select on those channels to comply?

Well those channels transmit in wide band, which is GMRS only. FRS only permits narrow band use under current Rules.

  9. According to info on RR, the R&O was minimally discussed and passed as published.

Now we just have to see when it goes into effect. I am going to fix the programming in my radios of .650 and .700 now since we'll be above Line A in the near future. Yippee!

It goes into effect 30 days after being published in the federal register. I think equipment must be compliant in 180 days.

  10. I'm measuring output power around 2 watts on low power, and about 3.5 watts on high. I get a similar reading with my two UV82's on the same (GMRS) frequencies. The UV82's have 2 watts on low but have 4.75 watts on high on amateur frequencies. So I assume, that the GMRS-V1 is just a dumbed-down UV82, they could have at least tweaked the output power for GMRS freqs.

They are only part 95 approved for 2 watts. Their higher power grant was dismissed.

  11. Are you looking ot change the website or the forums ? I think there is a real need for the website to be able to be updated with inaccurate info (old repeater sites). As for the forum I think its good. I'll be honest I come here for GMRS only. I go to RR for ham or commercial stuff. Keeping somewhat on a single topis is good and think there is good balance here.

Yeah.. Allow users to easily mark a repeater as out of service.

  12. I have a uv 5r v2+, have had a few people saying audio is very poor, trying to figure if its the radio or what

The uv5r series is hit or miss. Some earlier versions had poor audio. Being designed around a commercial model, the microphone circuit isn't very hot, to prevent picking up background noise.
