There are no Part 95 certified amplifiers for gmrs; therefore illegal.

You don'tI'm trying to register as a member but it wants a US call sign.
I'm in Canada and don't need one here.
Can I still join or is this site strictly for Americans?

You were just told you aren't allowed to. That radio has no modifications available. Not asking if I'm "allowed", I want to know if there's a hack (Mars/Cap mod, unlock, whatever you want to call it)to be ABLE to transmit on 8-14 and on VHF/MURS frequencies?

The FCC doesn't assign the FCC ID and certify the radio. The testing labs do. The test report goes on file with the FCC.- "illegal"? No..
- Not complaint with FCCs regulations? Maybe.. But, the FCCs certified the radio sooooo..
- Does the FCCs care? According to the FCCs' lack of enforcement, No
- Do any normal people care? No
The FCC has later gone and pulled certification on some radios that were later found to be illegal.

FRS radios must have a permanently attached antenna and have a 2 watt maximum output power.
Anything else is illegal.

The uv-5r is not part 95 certified and is therefore illegal on GMRS. The GMRS-V2 is.This can also be done on a $20 uv5r I’m not seeing the point.

The BTECH GMRS-V2 isn't bad. I love the fact you can program any GMRS frequency into any channel position and delete those you don't want to.use. Their flexibility is a strong selling point.

I'm not saying they stopped selling them. I'm saying they aren't as popular anymore.

https://hamgear.wordpress.com/2014/01/06/wouxun-reliability-issues/Not heard of that issue. Does anyone else know anything about this. It seems if this is the case the radio would have been discontinue long ago since it's a 13-14 year old design.
Does this "suicide " happen with normal use or what?

I would suggest you do a Google search. Like I previously mentioned, I had three. All three failed. In my post on the KG-UVD1P a guy commented that these radios have a "suicide chip" that fails and renders the radio useless. I've never heard of such a thing and I'm sure it this WAS an issue that Wouxun would have fixed it by now(the radio has been out for 14 years) or they would have dropped production of it because of all the returns that they would have gotten. Has ANYONE heard of this being an issue with this radio?? Thanks.
Companies constantly have products with design flaws and fail to acknowledge them.

That's because you are probably a newcomer. This issue existed 10 years ago. The uvd1p has gone by the wayside as other radios have become more popular. No

They have a suicide chip.that will.fail and render the radio useless. All 3 of mine failed.
Maybe they fixed the issue by now.

The uvd1p units (had?) Have a "suicide chip" that will.fail and render the radio useless. It has something to do with read write cycles to nvram.

And that is a good thing. The FCC will be aware of what's going on and will adjust...slowly....to meet our needs....maybe, hopefully. At 1 hour 19 minutes and 48 seconds THIS web site is specifically mentioned by the FCC agent that is speaking. He seems to be a member here, and as such he knows and by extension the FCC KNOWS who is doing what.

Long standing tradition. You will find amateur protocol follows traditional operating procedures. Some repeater owners forbid cb lingo on their systems.Sorry it took so long to get back to this topic. You're absolutely right! Or
It kind of makes me irritated when certain individuals tell you, you can't use 10-codes on Amateur Radio, because it sounds like CB. Then again you can't Q-codes on CB or GMRS. Hey, as long as you are in the confines of the FCC Rules and Regulations. Who Care?
I understand why Amateur Radio Operators do not want to hear, That's a Big 10-4 good buddy! That Hollywood motion picture such. If someone says 10-4, let it be. Not 10-4 Good buddy

The H8 has a 10.watt output per a watt meter.Just because the radio says it's doing 10 watts means nothing. Put it on something like a calibrated watt meter. Some years back people were buying Baofeng radios that "claimed" to do 8 watts. Once they were tested on a watt meter the real power output was around the 5 to 6 range. Oh well just typical for a Chinese radio to over state the spec's.
