    New Licensee

Why not have a conversation on the output frequencies? Or are those in use already?
  2. I have a recently purchased RA25 and I am very happy with it.
  3. We both know there's an "input frequency" joke here just waiting to get out...
  4. Turns out the software is pretty easy to figure out. Not as easy as CHIRP, but acceptable.
  5. Follow up on this: I added the NC to one of the NOAA channels, and it did make a slight difference in the audio. The speech seemed a bit clearer and the static was slightly less. I guess that's what it does.
  6. I bet it was "channel mode."
  7. Based on my subjective and nerdy calculations, there are a little over 10,000 licensed GMRS users that are affected by this, which works out to about 7% of the United States licensed GMRS users. I say we (the 93%) use channel 19 anyway hahaha
  8. Perhaps it switched from English to Chinese? I turned off voice prompts on mine, I found them slightly annoying haha
  9. I tried this, it didn't work for mine. Maybe my source had the wrong button combination.
  10. That explains why one of my UV-9G can get FM and the other cannot. Bummer.
  11. My first UV-9G worked great. The second one had to be returned due to some glitches, it would not pick FM Radio and it seemed to have a short circuit or something. The third one (to replace the second) also does not pick up FM Radio, but other features work fine. When you turn off the radio, then turn it back on while holding down the 6 key, do you see "200306M"? That's the version that I have, I don't know if it means anything significant though, but I'm curious.
  12. Yep, the manual blows. I also have a compander function right next to the NC menu item, so maybe I should email Retevis for confirmation (wish me luck). I currently have NC enabled on two rx-only channels (local law enforcement) so I don't know if it does anything, but you are likely correct that NC is related to tx more than rx. BTW, I learned to manually program it based on some YouTube scallywag's "just in case" recommendation. Thanks for that
  13. Lucky haha. Mine did not come with the programming cable. I have one on order, but I figured I should learn how to manually program it just in case when I use it "in the field."
  14. Hi all, I am enjoying my new Retevis RA25. It has a rather steep learning curve, but I'm getting it figured out (manually programming, no less). Can anyone describe the NC (noise cancelling?) feature? I believe the Radioddity DB20-G has the same feature, I just can't find any documentation on how it works. Thanks!
  15. I have Abree shoulder mics for my UV-9G's, they work great. They're cheap, but they match my cheap theme haha
  16. I have the UV-9G and the Nagoya NA-771G, they work pretty well together.
  17. Is it set to channel mode or frequency mode? Make sure its channel mode, I believe the default frequency settings are ham band.
  18. Maybe I misunderstood. Are you suggesting that the subchannel aspect of things be improved, so that users could almost have privacy and nuisance-free conversations? But at the same time, allow for wide-open (non-subchannel) settings for those that want to operate on an open channel? I could get behind that.
  19. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of GMRS/FRS? I bought my radios to stay in touch with family and friends during outings, and that wouldn't work too well if we never knew if someone else was talking.
  20. Well, Katy at BaofengTech recommended the G version, I believe I'll grab that one.
  21. Never mind, I see you ship next business day, very nice!
  22. Good to know, as I am currently torn between purchasing one or the other for GMRS!
  23. That's a great tip, I didn't think of that. Thank you!
  24. Drat! Well, I'll see how it goes haha
