My mag mount Nagoya is about ten inches in front of my roof antenna, there doesn't seem to be any issue. But I second the suggestion to go with a mag mount first.
I think this is an interesting idea, an option for a two-way in a new offroad vehicle may be attractive. However, why not install MURS mobiles instead? Granted, these can only talk to other MURS units, but the antenna and power limitations (as well as license by rule) are already built in.
This is unfortunate, I ordered a radio and a cable in two separate transactions, and they both arrived relatively quickly. Is this site showing the item as sold out now?
I'm running a Retevis RA25 "20 watt" (not quite) at full power through a DC inverter at home, rated at 12V/10A. The radio is showing 12.5V. I imagine you would be okay running your radio to the cigarette lighter, but like it was said, watch the amp draw?
I took a few GMRS and FRS radios with me on a fishing trip, and they were awesome for keeping in contact when we each wander around lakes and streams, letting each other know about fishing luck and current locations. I've also taken them hiking, and my brother takes them hunting. Even using them between my house and the community pool ("bring me another beer") has been worth the price
A slightly similar thing happened in my town, this dude thought he would be a radio cop and took it too far:

Is your mic plug broken? I have this issue all the time when connecting ethernet cables to my router and pulling them out, the little plastic piece breaks right off.
