  1. Good grief! How "1990's of them. Many folks are astonished to learn that most of the CCRs being imported have the complete transceiver on a single surface mount chip. All the rest of the components are there to support that single chip...
  2. I see 80 repeaters listed as being in Florida. It is highly likely that some of them are no longer active, but also likely that you will find one near you. Don't forget that you can use simplex as well.
  3. Was this a surface mount transistor? I didn't think anyone was using those these days...
  4. Thanks for the reply. All I get is a completely blank page when I click on the link you provided.
  5. A LMR license won't allow you to talk to anyone who's not covered by that license.
  6. Be on the lookout for a TK-880H (1) if at all possible. The "H" indicates it is a high-power (45 watt) version, and the "1" indicates the band coverage of 450-490 Mhz, which includes all of the GMRS frequencies.
  7. Man that is some dirty output. How did it ever pass certification?
  8. Three years later. Unfortunately, International Crystals went out of business just a few weeks after I bought this repeater, and they were the very last company to grow and frequency/temperature compensate ICOMs in the world as far as I can determine. I did part out the twin PAs for $100 each, so at least I recovered my investment. I've got a couple of Ritron repeaters lying around, so I may use one of them instead of the GE exciter/receiver to drive the Station PA, and find a smaller cabinet for the final build out.
  9. Pricing seems to be all over the place. Here is one source for half the price of others: https://foxandgrapesco.com/p/luiton-lt-898uv-dual-band-base-136-174mhz-vhf-400-520mhz-uhf-10watts-two/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8aiV7qXG4gIVCdbACh2fsg3WEAYYAiABEgITZ_D_BwE
  10. 10m is dead as a door knob around here today...
  11. Get a number of regular GMRS operators with 50 watt mobile or base to make their pitiful HTs cry...
  12. At our EOC we have both Amateur and GMRS stations sitting side-by-side the other stations for fire and LEO. When I'm on duty, I operate both ham and GMRS stations since I'm licensed for both. Whenever I'm off-duty or on a break, two appropriately licensed operators man those two stations. In either case, since all messages have to be properly recorded on paper message forms and logged, they are simply passed from one operator to the other operator.

  14. While the trademark issue was quite real, the reason why "PoFung" was chosen by the Chinese manufacturer as an interim workaround, it truly is the way "BaoFeng" is pronounced in Mandarin Chinese!
  15. I watched your video and gave it a thumbs up. Just for the sake of information though, Bao Feng is actually pronounced as "Po Fung..." Chinese pronunciation is weird don't ya know!
  16. While that is an option, there's ample reason for not using it as the tone is often enough degraded to the point of un-usability, and will fail to open the squelch of remote radios...
  17. The repeater will not "pass through" whatever tone the receiver requires (CTCSS or DPL). A separate tone generator is used on the transmit side if such tone is required at all. Many repeaters do not transmit any tone at all.
  18. That's a lovely job, Corey!
  19. I use a Diamond SX-800 as well as a Workman SX-144/430.
  20. That is precisely what it was, an OTH backscatter array. The transmitter was located about 70 km from this receiving array so it wouldn't cause any desense issues.
