WRUE951 got a reaction from Taz670 in Mobile GMRS Radio
all of us here were in your shoes at one time. And i think most of us have spent a 'TON' of money progressing to our 'True Love'' I started of with AnyTone & Baufang radios, then to Wouxun, Motorola, Maxon and now my 'True Love' Hytera. Although i still maintain my Maxon Repeater, I'm getting ready to switch it to a Hytera Repeater.. As someone just starting out, i highly recommend getting an AnyTone mobile and few Baufang Radios.. Cheap and very good radios and they'll provide you learning skills so you can join the group and have many many radios.. Welcome to GMRS and i hope you have fun..

I couldn't agree more with that. People can spend a lot of money starting out with GMRS or amateur radio while trying to figure out what they want. And if you are unsure, then start out with a cheaper radio until you figure out what you want.

But its legal it there is nothing you can do about it... Other than change your address to a PO Box or use mailing service.

Not really that hard and I’m on my phone.
One I pulled up had the name and address etc but you can click the link and it opens in Google Maps.
Pick a blue dot and click on the direction arrow.
This is exactly why I went and registered on Ham Registry through OffRoaderX YouTube channel (plus a month free I think 🤔)

Good one! The funny part is that its like you dont realize that you put yourself on that list and all that information that you gave to the FCCs such as your home-address is tied to your GMRS callsign, and was already on Google, Facebook, and probably a lot of other places..

While I'm jealous of all you guys that can afford to buy the nice radios, my AnyTone AT-778UV with Nagoya UT72 antenna is actually performing quite well. 🙂

I swear, I'm not BSing at all, I almost bought one last night but opted to spend the extra cash for the FTM-500DR instead.

Lots of Motorola/Kenwood/Hytera comments... I'm sure I will be happy with the Wouxun, but I'm also sure it won't be my only or last mobile.

I don't think you'll find a better radio for GMRS than a KG1000, unless you go in Pirate mode and go with a Motorola, Kenwood or Hytera..

I'm basically a Kenwood guy. I collect mostly HT's. I get most of my radios off of eBay. One has to be a real bargain hunter to avoid over paying. I'm on the look out for a super good deal on some NX-1200DVK2 radios. I want to pay significantly under $200 per unit. Last radio I got was an almost new NX-1300DUK5 with battery pack and antenna for $175. The seller was asking originally $280.

All thought not Part 95 certified the 400 to 470 band split make nice radios for the Ham 70cm band and will work on GMRS using FM wide band only.
My main GMRS HT is the TK-3170 which is Part 95 certified. This is my usual carry radio when I'm out and about. You can find these on eBay for reasonable prices if you shop for a while. Using a cheap 1/4 wave magnet mount it does a good job hitting local wide area coverage repeaters. It has enough range on the PLL to work down into the Ham 70cm band to access the local repeaters there as well.

I'd bet half the traffic you hear in any large metropolitan area is not even licensed. Particularly in the Las Angeles basin area. And i would even stretch that to include actual repeaters. I'm even hearing a lot of business using GMRS now, like Motels, Grocery Outlets, Construction Co, Landscaping Companies.. I've had a few landscaping companies try to use my repeater, they are hard to get rid of, they don't care. But when you learn who they are and get in touch with their owner and educate them on the FCC laws they will disappear. Self Policing the GMRS repeater Bands and getting harder and harder, sometimes i just turn it off. Thank goodness for the remote access.

Or Old Milwaukee; I never even knew about Burgie.
When I went to college the second time (having failed to graduate but succeeded in finding my perfect wife the first time around) we drank animal beer: Schmidt.

Yes, and if you drank a case of Hamm's every day till you peed sky blue water, you would get a free case every day till you died.

I feel so old! I can remember when we paid $5.65 for a case of beer.

Voice Scramblers works well, especially in the Hytera radios.. But problem with that, everyone needs a like radio. Other problem, if anyone worries about it. FCC Illegal for GMRS. But still quite a few still use it. 🙂

I didn’t say it was easy. That’s an absolute modifier. I was making a comparison.
I said it was easier than getting a license for ham radio.
Navigate FCC site + $35 = GMRS
Navigate FCC site + $35 + Test = Ham
