  1. I have considered trying this. I’m glad to know someone had success with this. Did you use a regular glass cutter?
  2. On the pricier side but good quality the Wouxun KG-S88G. It’s IP67, it has a screen though it is smaller and it’s superheterodyne. On the cheaper side the Baofeng UV-9G. It is also IP67, smaller screen, not superheterodyne but duel band, more frequencies on RX. It’s cheep enough that if something happens you aren’t breaking the bank.
  3. Ah shucks… welcome to the forum!
  4. The talkabout’s likely have a CTCSS tone (privacy tone) on and won’t hear your radio. Check the tones and clear them out of the radios. Haaa! I’m too slow again. Lol what they said^^^
  5. Welcome and may I say nice profile picture
  6. let’s not forget about the signal improving flash light. Actually I use this when walking the dog
  7. It’s like a domino effect of miss understood statements… I’m getting more coffee.
  8. I get what you are saying now. I do occasionally change the squelch though certainly not as often as one might if there were a squelch knob. I have wished for instance that they would replace the channel knob on the KG-935 plus with a squelch knob. I only use the up and down arrows for channels and having old school squelch knob would be handy I think. I messed with dialing in the squelch a lot on the Boefeng UV-9G radios but admittedly not as much on the Wouxun.
  9. Doesn’t the RX tone open a restricted Squelch on your radio to receive? I don’t recall saying anything about transmit vs receive tone. Now I’m confused.
  10. I think to put what he is saying in another way it’s the difference between using a RX tone vs leaving the tone off. In which case you’re going to hear other traffic… as I’m typing this I see @Sshannon responding with where I was going next I also disagree that GMRS doesn’t use regular/tone squelch. I change them frequently.
  11. In my above post I linked a post where @WRXE944 made a .csv file from their scanner list posted on their website. Last thing I can think of to check off the list is if you have had luck with these cables with other radios.
  12. I’ll preface this with I am not an expert on this radio. It seems odd that this problem is with two different cables, two different programs and two different computers. Odds are pointing to the radio. Short of waiting for a response from Mark and sending it back I would try doing a reset and reinstalling the csv file but that’s just based on me putting myself in your shoes and knowing that I’d want to try and get it to work before sending it back. In any event let us know how it goes.
  13. Not a problem I have seen. You could try to just load them in yourself if you’re so inclined.
  14. I was thinking large heat sink.
  15. Since this is a radio community… what do you consider involved? Just curious. Please tell me this is a pun.
  16. I agree jump in and get one, then another. The best radio is the one that’s in the mail and on it’s way
  17. We’ll best is something that many may have different criteria for but as for favorite I’ll say my Wouxun KG-935G Plus
  18. I’m using the Midland MXTA26 6DB gain whip antenna and I’m really happy with it. Though it’s GMRS specific. There are some new antennas coming you may want to check out mentioned here. I defer to others for duel band antennas.
  19. I’m curious with your HT near the repeater and in reverse, receive on 467.600 if you also hear the key ups. I’m wondering if this might narrow down the source. Is it possible there is an issue with the duplexer. Just spitballing here.
  20. Based on where you are, the frequency you are hearing and your post on the Northwest Houston 725 repeater page where you say you hear them on channel 22. I would say you are hearing that repeater on simplex. They won’t hear you. You need to join their repeater network if you want to converse. You will need to program their tones on channel 30 in your radio which already has the needed +5 offset. Repeater channels/frequencies have an input of 467 and receive on 462. So this repeater is tx 467.725 and rx 462.725. You hear them but you are not on their input frequency and don’t have tones set to access the repeater. You can join their network here. It’s a membership linked network. If you haven’t already I would recommend you download Chirp for programming your radio. It’s easier and you’ll be able to see and understand what is going on more when you see things in this format. Good luck.
  21. So it’s open but he wants only people who can figure the tones out to use it? I mean I guess if that’s what he wants. Definitely different though.
  22. I agree if it’s listed as open I take that at face value. If it’s not I assume it’s permission required. I have stumbled across a repeater (it was using common “travel tones”) while it was being tested by the owner and I offered my feedback for my location and asked for permission which he was happy to give but he did ask that once it went live on this site to do the request so he had it in his records. However the repeater owner wants to require or not I am happy to oblige, it’s their choice and I look at it as a privilege that’s theirs to give if I can use it or not.
  23. Sorry to hear that.
  24. Oh I didn’t forget. But then you knew that. You’re just being condescending now. A MYGMRS.COM STRANGER DOESN'T LIKE MY OPINION. PLEASE RESPECT MY PRIVACY DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME.
  25. Good for you, you got something right.
