Radioddity GM-30 can't transmit outside of simplex?
WRUU653 replied to WRYF792's topic in General Discussion
You should be able to here from the repeater on your UV-5R, no tone needed to listen. It may be your radios are to close to eachother though. desensing can happen when radios are close to eachother causing one not to receive transmissions. Try moving them further apart like fifty feet or so. -
The listing have minor differences yes, like who owns them. I like the idea of writing something in that prevents duplicate entries. This happens a lot (the second time this week) and it seems to always be new license holders (this guy has had his for 9 days and listed seven repeaters as his). They are not and it wouldn’t surprise me that he has no idea what he has done. I am hoping that Rich can do something so he doesn’t have to keep fixing these problems, repeater owners are not getting angry with people that don’t know what they are doing and when we all see a listing we know that’s the owner to contact.

Repeaters output on the same frequency as the simplex channels (15-22). Only the input is different. What you hear on simplex is the same as from the repeater. No different. When you are on a repeater channels (23-31) and you have tones set then you won’t hear the simplex but simplex still hears you. Hope that helps.
-
No. A repeater can ID on the output (simplex) but still have tones to access it. It’s very common to hear the ID morris code on the simplex channel. You hear everything on simplex but if you have the output tones set on the repeater channel you’ll only hear what’s coming from the repeater. Some people set their radios with only the input for a repeater with the output off so they hear all that’s on the frequency. Hearing a repeater ID on simplex has nothing to do with being open or closed.
-
They can’t but to use their repeater you have to be transmitting with a +5 offset. If you set up a repeater without tones I really don’t think you should expect it not to be used and just listening on the output you couldn’t tell if they are on it or not.
-
My understanding is that some repeaters as mentioned here set the repeater ID without tones so when you are on the repeater you won’t hear it and disrupt communication. Of course as @ULTRA2 points out on simplex without tones you hear everything.
-
Sure, I see what you’re saying but why so angry?
-
I agree with the first part of your post but I believe an open repeater means the owner is inviting others to use it. You will know if it’s open or not by it being listed that way. Also why does a squelch tail or roger beep mean it’s an open repeater?

If you are in Southern California you can hear info on the tropical storm coming on the NOAA channels. A first for California. I am picking up info at 162.400 and 162.475 north of Santa Barbara.

@rdunajewski Another seven duplicates posted. This time from WRYH413. This has become so common. Others who have done this said it was by mistake. I wonder if there is a way to fix this problem? Add a pop up when posting a repeater that request verification of ownership? Enter password to verify you own this repeater? Changing the phrase “my repeaters” to “repeaters I own”? I am not a coder so I have no knowledge of the best way to fix this but it seems like it is worth a look.

At least you gave it a shot. Now you have a legitimate excuse to get that other radio you always wanted.

Not sure when you are planning to go but be advised still getting into triple digits out there.

New KG1000G+ Cannot connect to repeater

For a line of site that includes terrain try this tool. -
I have never taken one apart but it wouldn’t stop me. I would at least open it up. You’re not going to make it worse. I would be interested to see if the display became partially unplugged from the board when it dropped.
-
Thanks Marc, I did not know this.
-
Nice. Where does this info come from? I only pulled info from Mygmrs.com repeaters active and open (no stale and no offline) which has already changed.

I guess it transmits on weather channels too. No problems there…

What is the best to use for a group of neighbors?
WRUU653 replied to WRXY704's topic in General Discussion
I know some here have mentioned they can’t get their spouse interested in radios so getting neighbors interested may be a challenge. On the other side of the coin @WRHS218 has stated he bought one for his neighbor because they share a well in a rural area that has power outages. A great solution for their needs. Depending on your circumstances it may or may not appeal to others. Keeping the radio’s simple as @Sshannon mentioned may help to sell others on the idea. Also @marcspaz is putting together a video that you may consider sharing with your neighbors interested in GMRS. -

Something you may want to consider aside from the radios is a neighborhood Facebook page. Our neighborhood has one and it has been helpful for getting the word out about an escaped dog, a block party, offering equipment to knock down vegetation in fire season and so on. It can be invitation only so it’s just your community and it doesn’t cost anything. -
Teaching GMRS 101 - What would you want to know?

I like this idea A worthy project Marc. -
Did you ever figure out what “Shake dizzy, Shake fraud, Shake up” is supposed to be? I can’t even hazard a guess at that one.
-
According to Randy’s video it is. But yeah I agree with you. Also looks like it was very poorly programmed.

It’s a famous Porsche https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_917

From what I can gather (not having one in my hands) it looks like two separate radios in one. The upper being GMRS and the lower being ham. I am curious if you program the upper and lower separately.? They state 512 channels and Randy says it’s 256. This has me wondering if they program the two separately. IDK though.
