The repeaters on mygmrs.com will disappear from the map if they haven't been updated in a years time. You can still find them by selecting the gear in the left hand corner and select stale repeaters. So that keeps most of the stuff you see here up to date. I can't speak to how they keep things updated at Repeaterbook.com but why do you feel they are outdated on this site?

I have a few Wouxun radios and they're great but so is my Boefeng UV-9G and GT-3WP. They don't cost much and after dialing in the squelch they perform nicely. I don't have to worry about damaging an expensive radio if I take them hiking and I like that they have a little more pause time before continuing to scan in CO than my KG-935G Plus and quite frankly the battery fits tighter than my 935 as well. People here bag on Baofeng all day long but I have never gotten a complaint on the other end and they have their purpose. I can only speak to the two models I have but I would add that putting people down for having what they can afford because you can afford more doesn't make you better. Not that anyone here does that...

I beleave you are correct in your assessment. It certainly makes sense that the GMRS tuned antenna is going to be less efficient in the VHF range than the stock duel band. Now that I have said that, I have done a side by side with two UV-9G radios comparing the receive of the stock antenna, the 771G and the 701G. The 771G was best overall however the 701G was almost as good and I felt it was better in the out of band UHF than the stock duel band and just as good receive on the VHF. No this didn't make any sense to me but that's where I landed. This was over a couple hours and I swapped antennas back and forth incase one radio was better than the other. I didn't have anything at 131 MHz but I do have some around 151 MHz. I don't recall if they came in as good but I did receive them. So the 701G has ended up being my go to. I like the shorter stance and it seems to work well and I wanted my TX to be as good as I could get for GMRS. As they say though YMMV.

@WRQH837 You may want to take a look at the Wouxun KG-UV9GX if you are interested in also using the radio to communicate on GMRS as well.

I think the product you showed could be connected to a radio. If then that radio was monitoring the repeater output that you want to test I think you could use it for such a thing. I am not an expert on this item.

There is a sound that seems almost mechanical in nature here occasionally on 17. It happens I would guess at around every minute or so. I think it’s bleeding elsewhere too because I heard some local Hams describing it and complaining with some speculation it could be military in nature. Vandenberg isn’t that far away. ?

There is a repeater near me but I have yet to hear it's ID with my RX tones on but I hear an ID on simplex (no tones). I never checked to see how often there is an ID. at least it’s my assumption that I’ve been hearing the ID come from there as it’s the same channel…

The person I know with a repeater that went stale has an open repeater, because no request are needed he dosn't respond to request. Maybe that's why it went stale. I know this doesn't answer the question but it could be a clue.

Fair enough. Point taken and accepted. You are certainly right that as far as enforcement these things don’t likely matter. I think the ID issue keeps coming up because people keep insisting the rules say something other than what they do. Why I don’t know. It seems understood by most but for whatever reason that fire keeps popping up. I suspect people have already decided what the rules say and then cannot assimilate what’s before them. I don’t think we should not try and correct an incorrect statement though. The community exist in part to educate and help those that don’t know these things and a place to find things we don’t know.

? okay I’ll bite. While I’m not advocating for dismissal of any rules but If people are using a Ham radio that is essentially the same as the GMRS radio that said CCR company makes and those people modify and use that Ham radio to talk on GMRS and they are adhering to all other rules/protocols, 1. How would you know? 2. Why would this be of more concern than following other rules like proper ID? And finally 3. Is it only CCR modification and use that you are opposed with why?

This is precisely why for me at least, I am comfortable allowing family to use my call sign while we are communicating together. For example my wife is free to use whenever, we are legal partners after all and live under the same roof. My brother who lives just far away enough that radios aren’t reaching, I’d be happy to allow if we were on a trip or camping but if he wanted to use on his own it would be best if he had his own. The kids and grand kids, again if we’re together where I feel I can know they are using things properly okay but they are mostly in other places and they should have their own licenses. This is just my personal preference so I have the ability to ensure proper use for my license.

Any individual who holds an individual license may allow his or her immediate family members to operate his or her GMRS station or stations. Immediate family members are the licensee's spouse, children, grandchildren, stepchildren, parents, grandparents, stepparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. I mean pretty great right.
