Thats one reason I'm afraid to update my firmware. I have 230317 ! Works fine no matter how I program it. Bluetooth or chirp. Hits all repeaters.

Good to know...I was under the impression that with tones set on ham simplex you wouldn't know if the frequency was clear before transmitting so it's considered bad form. I suppose it would be the same with GMRS, but that nobody really cares. I say this with my deep expertise and experience; I've been a ham for 2 weeks and a licensed GMRS user for 3 months, so everyone should listen to me.

I know the Kenwood radios I have will let me program up to 128 scan groups. Each group can be enabled/disabled from the front panel keys. Also each memory channel in each group can be enabled/disable too. That gives the me a lot of flexibility in what I want to scan for monitoring.
This feature comes in handy on an NX-200 VHF radio. I have a special code plug written with all of the VHF railroad FM analog and digital channels. There are a bunch.
    https://www.radioreference.com/db/aid/7747
Each group the ID that shows up on the display, when changing groups using the group up and down front panel keys, shows something like "AAR 001-025" etc. That way I can quickly locate a channel I want in a group. Of course each memory channel is labeled too. Keeping the number of memory channels in each group limited to 20 to 25 means I'm never more that 10 to 13 channels away from the one I want in a group using the channel selector knob. The channel selector knob function is programmed to "roll-over" at the top or bottom of the programmed memory channels in a group.

I'm on the list as well. As far as I know the use SMA male antennas so you just need an adapter.  I just received a package of them so I can use anything including my Midland MXT12  mag mount on my roof mounting an MXT26  6db gain antenna for my truck. Also got a super flexible cable to attach to the roof antenna to any HT. Hoping my 9GX gets here soon!

I have the UV9PX, same radio but firmware for HAM. My review. Its a nice radio. It takes a SMA male antenna.

The 935 is a great radio and a lot people say that. It's my belief the uv9gx is a much better radio. Or the uv9g pro.

I've been happy with the Wouxuns that I have. I got some of the KG-805M MURS radios and used them for family comms during a Scout camping event back in the fall. I figured the VHF might cover better with all the trees around. We had no coverage issues and the audio was very good on those radios. I did also catch the KG-935G's on sale around the same time frame and picked up a pair. I've been using them for scanning mostly.
I did get a couple Kenwood TK-3180 radios recently and like those as well. I might use them at the next Scout event since the limited keypad ones are simple and the LCD's are easier to read in the sun than the 935G screen. Also the wife might get lost with all those buttons on the 935G. I've gotten pretty familiar with the Kenwood programming software but need to work out configuring scan groups on those radios.

It's the radio itself I was interested in because it's a superheterodyne radio. The added channels don't bother me. I was going to get the pro version as it was available but decided to get the best at this time, I believe. The KG935G from what I've read and seen videos on is a darn good choice as well.

Yes, CCR means a Cheap Chinese Radio; some people exclude Wouxun from this definition.

It helps a bit due to the added contrast, but doesn't totally solve the problem. That will have to wait for an OLED screen in a future version.

I have one right here on my desk.. It's a nice upgrade the the UV9G.. The release has been delayed due to supply chain/shipping issues, but it should be available soon (my GUESS is 30-60 days, but this is only a guess)..
Some new stuff on the UV9Gx:
theme able color schemes much brighter LED flashlight stiffer knobs can receive down to 219Mhz more power control settings for better battery life a priority channel button, pre-set to the official highway channel, CH19 more pre-programmed frequenicies and most important a ROGER BEEP .................affiliate link below..
    Oops.. sorry.. bad habit.

Some of the early UV9GPro and the UV9GLite had Roger beeps, but IIRC, the bulk of the UV9GPro units do not have a Roger Beep.. Due to the outcry of customers from around the world, they added it back for the UV9GX.
Mid power is now 2watts, high power is still 5watts.. I dont remember what low power is, but its the same as the the UV9GPro.
I'm only telling you this because YOU are my favorite user here at MyGMRS ...

If you look close, 99% of them are actually sad-hams, disguised as GMRS operators.

I had hoped this wouldn't happen, but we get to see sad GMRS operators on display. Tho not to the degree of sad hams. Yet!

Short of interference with medical or law enforcement, why does it matter if individuals are on a channel talking without a license? I understand that there are rules in place to have a license to use system, but at the same time if businesses or individuals are using the system then who cares? I personally don’t agree that we should even have to obtain a license to use this system, kind of a racket if you ask me, but whatever I’ll play along and I’ll even help people get one if they so choose, yet I have read a bit of all these forums and everybody says the same thing, all they hear are crickets in most places. If the FCC isn’t too interested in policing the system then why should it be upon us to do so? Im sorry but I do not have the time nor patience to try and track down individuals or to go to businesses to inform them that they need to have a license to use system. Personally I don’t think any of us should be doing that in any way and putting ourselves in a possible dangerous situation just to inform somebody that they shouldn’t use a radio or how to use one. And to be honest I would much rather have my taxes spent on something more important than to have some government official spending their time trying to track down some kid telling poop jokes or cussing over radio.

Howdy...   totally new to the world of GMRS.   Just got my new Bronco and plan to get back to some off-roading here in Colorado, hence the radio.  Did some research, talked to some folks and I ended with a license and a radio to keep in contact on the trails.   As a long time pilot I'm quite comfortable on the radios, but it's just in the plane and does its thing when I need to chat with ATC.   Getting into the real ins and outs of GMRS has caught my interest even though it came about indirectly through the off-roading world.   Purchased a Wouxun KG-935G to get started.  Got some good reviews.  Glad to be here and have the opportunity to learn from the "pros" out there.
