I'd like to "somewhat" unlock mine as well.  I'm using the Radiodity GM-30 software (the only one that works as of now) and I can program tones and such, but all of the other memories are pretty much locked.  The DIY memories can be renamed, but the TX/RX frequencies can't be changed.  You can add some RX only frequencies into memory, but no TX that's not already programmed.  I'd like to program in some repeaters local to where I travel along with appropriate tones, etc., but I'm pretty much stuck with the first 22 channels and RPT1 - 8, and just 1 set of each.  I'd like to duplicate some frequencies for different areas and remove the ones I don't need.

It's a bit more frustrating than their older UV-5's that let you bounce all over wherever you wanted and program 10 channels with different tones and  the same freq for every city you pass thru on a drive.

This is actually why I got a Tidradio H8 GMRS. It's an unlockable radio but that's just a side benefit for SHTF. The main reason I bought it is for the flexibility with the memory channels. I really like my GM-15 Pros but the limited memory options is a let down, then again they only cost $25 a piece so we can't be too upset.

I avoided this problem by getting the UV-13 pro which is the Ham radio version of that radio and since it’s already open it transmits on GMRS

$20 from AliExpress

from AliExpress

I retired my TYT-88UV

I just bought the GM 15 Pro and have the radioditty software for the gm 30 version 2.06.  Using the Baofeng cable I try to read or write to the radio and get an error to check the com port.  No matter which port I use, I get the same error.  I am running Windows 10.  Is there another version of the software I should be using, etc? thanks

I'm really not a Baofang fan but do own a couple UV-13 Pro's and pretty impressed with it...  My GoTo radio is a Hytera HP682 but when i'm out roughing it and don't want to sacrifice my Hytera, i grab  my UV-13..  The UV13 is pretty comparable to xtmt&receive quality to the Hytera.  Of course the 682 is cleaner on the Analyzer  but not by much..   If it wasn't for all the programing options and ease of programing i get with my HP682 the UV-13 would be my goto.  The two UV-13's i picked up on Amazon were open and ready..

Looks like a nice radio. What did you pay for it?

i have two.  My first HP682 bought at Atlantic Radio last Christmas for $525. (christmas sale) Last July I picked one up on Ebay for $375.  it was a demo, still had the protective film and looked new when it got it.  Both are fantastic radios..  Atlantic gave me the CPS and the Wide Band Lic free with the purchase.   Programing is a lot easier than Motorola.  I also picked up an HM782 from the same Ebay seller (used) $400.  That radio also was a demo and had the protective film.. Both work great in DMR as well..   If you are interested, keep your eyes on Ebay, they come up used as Demo about mid year..

I'll keep an eye out for one, and if it's cheap enough I might go for it. I'm primarily a Kenwood guy. I do have a few Chinese radios, a few Motorola's and Icom's.

I just dropped $120 on a used Kenwood NX-320 off eBay. Got it yesterday. This one had the 400-470 band split. I have one already but it's the higher split range and won't run below about 443MHz. I wanted a version of that model that covers the Ham band.

I have a bunch of DMR radios as it is now. In fact I have WAY too many radios.

The ones I have cover D-Star, dPMR, DMR, NXDN and P25 Phase 1 so far. Nothing for System Fusion yet.

The Radioddity GM-30 CPS software is the "go-to" software for the Baofeng GM-15.  You are having Windows USB Cable/driver issues which is a dark art on Windows!

Did your programming cable come with your GM-15, or did you acquire it separately?  All facts would be helpful to diagnose!

I always was a "Kenwood guy" for decades, but sadly they dropped the ball in the amateur sector by discontinuing the famous V71a after 20 years of production. I'm glad I have four of them. I was always tempted to explore their commercial radios but never got around to it.

Did you really say you have too many radios? Really? Is that even possible? As for digital, I have D-Star, DMR and C4FM covered. In all honesty, I really dislike the sound of digital and much prefer the natural sound of good old analog. I found that C4FM is the better sounding of all digital formats and D-Star the worst. I hope the FCC never allows digital on GMRS.

but there still is some open space on them shelves.

I’m working on it. I would like to find another IC-F3162DT with the dPMR firmware and a few reasonably priced NX-1200DV’s with display and limited keypad.

Looks like you have an HT fetish, which is good. I lean more towards mobiles myself.
