Radioguy7268 Posted February 15 Report Posted February 15 I read about the rash of robberies happening to GMRS users, so I started using FRS instead. /s WSGL775, H8SPVMT, Lscott and 2 others 2 3 Quote
Guest Jeff Posted February 15 Report Posted February 15 There was the guys in L.A on GMRS who loved to talk about their guns... They detailed their daily routines, and got a little loose at times. Then, both of their homes were robbed...and all the guns were gone. The FCC allows for confidential user info... after the "Nelle Orr Incident". Info on the FCC site. Jeff Quote

We would be providing easy access to our name and address while showing that we were nowhere near our home every time we used the call sign. People should know about that before wasting time and money on these things. Just buy a blister pack of Family Radios, and don't worry about all the call sign stuff. If you insist on GMRS, transmit simplex, use minimal power on handhelds and the range is gonna be really really minimal. Anyone who might stumble across your comms probably doesn't care. WSEZ 1 Quote

But you could use Morse code as an alternative to English phone identification. unless someone understands the Morse code. Morse code = English to those who understand. So, if somebody looked it up on the FCC database they still wouldn't have a clue where your house is located. I wasn’t aware that you could do that. I believe it’s prohibited. Jaay 1 Quote

AdmiralCochrane Posted Monday at 10:24 PM Report Posted Monday at 10:24 PM I am certain it is not only not prohibited, but expressly permitted. SteveShannon 1 Quote
Jaay Posted Monday at 10:38 PM Report Posted Monday at 10:38 PM If a CWID is allowed to identify a Repeater, then Why wouldn't CW be allowed to identify a Call sign ? Quote

CW is allowed for Call Signs. A GMRS repeater is identified by nothing other than its owner's call sign. WSFL951's comment about something not being permitted was directed at the use of a P.O. Box for the license address. WRUU653 1 Quote

H8SPVMT Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago Simply put just converse on the FRS channels and there ar no needs for the Call Sign.... WSEZ 1 Quote
WSEZ Posted 23 minutes ago Report Posted 23 minutes ago I was, at one time, long long ago..... in a far far away state..... worried about getting tracked down because I have a YouTube preppers channel. Then I realized that anyone at any time can be tracked down by ip adress, license plates, phone numbers, emails and by emails, text and phone numbers from others I had previously had made contact with. Get a security system if worried. Quote
