Though I've mentioned this as a side item in various posts, I wanted to take the time to create a specific post to spotlight my favorite youtube channel for GMRS info, including equipment. I'm speaking of NotaRubicon Productions. The owner of that channel is a down to earth guy by the name of Randy. His channel has good things going for it: + Good Production. Good lighting. Good mics. A sense of humor. A born-to-do-this delivery ability. Aspiring YT channel stars, take note. + Good Information. The good production attributes mentioned above can help bring people into a channel and make them want to return. But that is not enough. There has to be relevant information delivered to the point. Randy does this. It's obvious that manufacturers are aware of him and the fact that he is an influencer. When Randy gives a thumbs up for a radio model, buyers snap them up. When he mentions problems with newly introduced radios, manufacturer's fix them fast. I have no connection with Randy or his YT channel. Just wanted to share a good GMRS youtube channel for those interested.

I have a Tram 1126B 1/4 wave UHF antenna (410-490MHz) on my vehicle and I receive the NOAA weather channels just fine. 162.400 is the only one I can get on any radio in my location, however when I travel I can receive multiple NOAA channels with this antenna, YMMV.

You're right....sorry. Nothing like me mixing brand names when trying to explain the capacity in some batteries is so exaggerated that it's ridiculous. They run awesome in my HTs, although as noted above watch that voltage or you can sacrifice performance.

You post triggered a thought and I started messing around on t he PC and figured out I needed the driver for the "CP 210x USB to UART Bridge" driver first! Installed that and finally got my COM port assigned for the KG-905G. Thanks ?

To the OP: It is purely my opinion, but, on your list of worries when running a GMRS repeater, this should be at the bottom of your list. I run a GMRS repeater that has about 900 square miles of coverage, and this is not even on my list of concerns. Pigs flying into my antenna is higher on my list..

You do need to maintain some form of control. Typically this is done with DTMF tones so you can shut down the transmitter, and you do need to be able to get to the site to maintain the equipment reasonably.

NSEA's primary repeater is located in Parkridge, IL on top of the Lutheran General Hospital, and was the very first GMRS repeater in the nation. It's been around a very long time...
