BTECH GMRS-50X1
wayoverthere and 3 others reacted to MichaelLAX for a question
I know it's early in the am; and I am just drinking my first cup of coffee, but... You respond to a post one year later; to an OP who has not even revisited this forum in over 12 months, and you hurl out insults to Hams?!?4 points -
GMRS cost
rnavarro and 2 others reacted to SteveShannon for a topic
Look at it this way: I’m a ham and a gmrs licensee. Once the GMRS license comes down and the ham license goes up, I’ll still be paying exactly the same average cost for comm licenses. ?3 points -
Base station
wayoverthere reacted to SargeRN for a topic
Thanks PACNWComms. I have a friend, another local ham, that works for one of the commercial radio shops here. I'm going to see what they might accidently have laying around. A few years ago the same shop had a warehouse full of "stuff" and it was "if you want it come haul it away." Local ham club got some usable power supplies out of that among other things! And the local club also has some Kenwood mobiles that were donated to us when the local school bus company changed out radios. I'll have to look to see what they are and if they are of any use. Thanks again group!! Sarge1 point -
Repeater tones ?
SteveShannon reacted to WyoJoe for a question
Try the following: Tone Mode: Tone Tone: 141.3 ToneSql: leave blank Frequency, Offset, and Duplex all look good. Also, leave all DTCS columns blank. Those settings should encode your transmissions so the repeater will receive them, but also leave the code off so your radio receives everything on that frequency.1 point -

Base station

+1 on the CDM1250, or in my case CDM1550LS+ as I already had them. Since you are experienced with radios, commercial gear will server you very well at the power you want (50W). Although, I also use a Radioddity DB20-G mobile as a base and as a mobile. Had to get two as they work pretty well for price and size. Went with a new vehicle and stacked VHF/UHF Vertex VX-3200's would not fit the new car, DB20-G would fit into dash like it was meant to be there, so it is my mobile. Liked how it worked and programmed, so got one for base station. However, already had little portable power supply with radio stacked on top, made of Motorola CDM1550LS+ and another with XPR5550e mobile, which do work a lot better, just larger and heavier when moving around. For oil industry I used to make a lot of mobiles attached to power supply as portable base station good for 45-55 watts in UHF/VHF....many ended up in hurricane response trailers, staging sites, and command posts. Good luck on making a GMRS base station, and in my own opinion, for base station use, I always try to get a desk mic.....as it just feels better than the mobile mic for use in vehicles. That makes the radio "feel" like a base station.1 point -
It's FCC rules not laws that's why the police can not and will not enforce them. Sad hams please stop with the bs and scare tactics1 point

1-5/8" on the transmit line I installed. I believe the receive is 1-1/4". If you'd like to see pictures (outdated now showing the TKR-850 of course) and a coverage map go to http://rugged575.com/ I'm good with my tower owner, all things have been considered and signed off for as far as studies. Trust me on that one lol.1 point

Aha. You’re the guy I blame for spending $320 on an “Ocean” radio instead of just being satisfied with my Baofeng BF-F8HP HT and a mag mount antenna. . Seriously your GMRS vids are great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

The fridge only draws about 45 watts for 2-3 minutes every 30 minutes in "normal" conditions (75º daytime temps/40's at night). That equates to about 200 to 250 watt hours per 24 hour day, so I can go about 2 days without a charge before its flat dead. That gives me some cushion if the weather isn't ideal. but under normal operating conditions, the panel will produce 65-75 watts, even in mid winter and not angled at the sun properly, which tops it off from the night before within a couple of hours. Usually by the time I break camp.1 point

Jeeps & Radios

I tried posting pics and failed. I am not a forum newb. Hoping somebody can help me navigate this forum's needs as far as pics go. Wrangler models: After the CJ came the '87?-'95 YJ. Leaf sprung and weird square headlights. Then came the best Jeep, the '97-'06 TJ. Coil sprung and proper round Jeep headlights. Just the right amount of modern but still stupid simple. They also made an "Unlimited" variant people unofficially call the LJ (long Jeep) which is stretched similar to the Scrambler. Also the Rubicon model had a better transfer case and locking beefier axles. '07-'17? were JK's. These saw the advent of the 4 door option which has seen them explode in popularity. It also means a lot of people who would have otherwise bought an SUV to haul the kids around bought these, so a lot of earlier Jeep guys kind of look down on these. You'll see a lot more stupid low profile 24" rims or bought not built mall crawlers in these years. The JKU just means JK unlimited which is the 4 door version. JKUR = Unlimited Rubicon model JK. The '18+ are JT (Jeep truck) and JL. They are nice and very expensive. I wouldn't want to scratch mine or roll it. Non-Wranglers: XJ is the classic Cherokee. Super dope. I love these. '87-'06? ZJ is the original Grand Cherokee. These are very cool. Because v8 and you can still wheel them1 point
