  1. Spectacular! I was too awestruck by your build (or simply too stupid) to notice that you went to the trouble of linking the components. Very commendable! Thank you Cactusboy19! (apparently my number of reactions today has exceeded the daily allowed reactions on this site, but I will come back tomorrow and "Like" this thread)

    Wouxun KG-UV7D 2M/6M

After seeing this thread last night I grabbed my KG-UV7D (6m/2m) and sure enough, the battery was dead. I just checked my 805M (don't have an 805G) and its battery is still fully charged after also sitting unused for a couple months.

    Multi band mobile radio

A scanner is a better way to listen to other frequencies other than GMRS. I have one bank dedicated to GMRS on my scanner.

  4. This is completely normal. If the other repeater is not being interfered with, which would seem to be the case just run with it. You seem to be in a location that there is a good bit of overlap, so you should be aware of what the other repeater is doing (active or not) when you are talking on the other repeater. But past that, I wouldn't be too concerned.

    50x2

I think it’s more accurate to say it’s not type accepted for other services, not bands. The OP might be asking about extending it to work on another amateur band, which would be acceptable. But if the OP wants to use it on GMRS or MURS, then this warning from BTech is relevant: “You may be tempted to use FRS, GMRS, MURS (in the USA) or PMR446 (in Europe) frequencies. Do note however that there are restrictions on these bands that make this transceiver illegal for use.“

  7. Disregard, I was able to toggle closed then open and now the access button is disabled... Hello, I own the Macomb 675 repeater in Michigan. I have set it up on .675 with a pl of 141.3 and DO NOT require permission. I still get request almost daily for permission with I feel compelled to approve. I have it set to "open" FWIW... Is there a way to eliminate the "REQUEST ACCESS" button, or even better, have a pop up with a canned message? I've been replying with: We do not require permission. The Macomb 675 is an open repeater and you are free to use it within the parameters of your GMRS license. Welcome.

  8. I'm not far away, our area has a lot of repeaters. There might be one on every available frequency within 40 miles of me. Lots of simplex use, some regulars on some of the better located repeaters.

  9. Thanks. I am going to take a break from it till the weekend when hopefully I should have more time. These look like well built radios so I want to get them in peak performance.

  10. I just checked my 805G and it has not run the battery down after sitting for several months (at least 3 months)

  11. I think I solved it by a roundabout way. These are new in the box radios and the first one I went to program I downloaded from the radio so I can have a virgin file and saved it. I'm now thinking I didn't get a virgin. I did the same with radio #2 and saved it in a safe place and programmed that radio and it worked perfectly. I went and programmed the first radio and it's working. So, now I'm happier than a tick on a hound dog. Thanks everyone for all your help as I was getting beaten into the ground. I always find the stupidest problems!!!?

  15. You're right! I didn't realize they added one up there. Can you hit it? PAPA 32: 442.600 I sent you a PM with the PL twice, but I am not sure it went through.

  18. The word is actually balun, which stands for balanced to unbalanced. It would probably be better just to refer to that as a feedline choke rather than speculating whether it’s a balun or an unun. Coax is unbalanced feedline and a j-pole has elements of both unbalanced and balanced antennas. The short section of the j-pole is a stub match so a balun or unun isn’t truly needed, but having a choke can help with common mode interference. https://palomar-engineers.com/wp-content/uploads/Choosing-a-Feedline-Choke-RFI-Tip-Sheet-RC-1-by-AK6R.pdf

  20. I have added a repeater and I still can't get the "GMRS antenna" icon to move to the repeater's location on the map. It placed itself about 30 miles north of my listed repeater, Warren 550, in Warren, MI., when I listed it. WRUY699.

  21. Michael I think you are on to something. I could take the 4 remaining wires wire those to a female RJ45 jack and splice into power and ground and that should work. The stock microphone would just plug into the female jack. Thanks for the idea.

  22. Nice work! Can you build a "parallel" RJ-45 device that allows you to plug in both mics, but not connect the regular mic to sound and then use it just for button access?

  23. I've had 3 different repeaters over the last two years: DIY 2 KG-1000Gs Retevis RT97 Vertex VXR-7000 All using the same ~$120 Tram 1486 base antenna and 75 feet of LMR400 coax The two KG-1000Gs was the most expensive (~$875) and had the most power - but it was also the most unwieldy and issue-prone The RT97 was a much more compact package, and was the least expensive (~$400), but only output about 4-5watts after the duplexer and has a limited duty-cycle The Vertex VXR-7000 (what I currently use) is by far the best solution. I paid $500 for mine (used), it puts out ~25 watts after the duplexer and it can be used 24/7 (100% duty cycle) - But because of its age its a bit of a pain to program/get set up. My recommendation, based on my experience, would be to try and get a good used commercial repeater (like the VXR-7000) OR an RT97. Next month another company will be releasing a new GMRS repeater very similar to the RT97 but easier to configure - but i'm not allowed to talk about that yet.. So you might want to wait and see if that one works better for your needs.

    Multi band mobile radio

Agreed. This is a case where non-compliance is harmless as long as the person using the radio is acting responsibly. But for people who worry about strict compliance with the letter of the regulations, having it spelled out may help.

    Multi band mobile radio

You made my point. A few have done exactly that. Yes I know about @OffRoaderX and his predilection about FCC enforcement log proof. What he doesn't tell people the FCC doesn't necessarily put everything in those logs. They can show up, knock on the door, and "advise" you, unofficially, if you continue there will be official action taken. They are not complete A-Holes and will give people a break, but don't publicize it. That's usually enough. I personally know of people where that happen, and no there was no official record of the visit either.
