Try out the GMRS codeplug as well, as it opens up pretty much all of the microphone shortcuts (and manual programming steps) for use there, too.

I have the Radioddity DB20-G and its Anytone AT-779UV clone; one is in my automobile with a cup-holder mount and Mag-mount antenna for easy removal. For about $99 - $109 each they are dual band radios that easily plug into a cigarette lighter outlet for easy connection and removal, provide 20 watts transmit power, are locked into GMRS (but can be easily opened for Ham use on 440 MHz and 2 meters [146 MHz]). I do not have experience with HOA antenna restrictions. Good luck!

If you are in GMRS Mode, you cannot change the Power setting with either the front panel buttons or the microphone buttons; they are locked down. You must use the Programming software. If you "open" the Radioddity DB20-G (or Anytone AT-779UV) to MODE: (136-174)(400-470)... You can change many of these settings on the fly, so that you would not be required to remove the radio from your truck and bring home to keep programming. I have attached the "GMRS generic" code plug that will work with this MODE for GMRS and you can build it out to your localized repeaters, etc. from there, if that would be helpful to you. Although it is named "Anytone" it works with either the Anytone version 2.01 or Radioddity version 2.02 CPS software. Let me know if you have any questions. NOTE: Even though this Codeplug is programmed to be consistent with Part 95E rules for GMRS, some people believe that its use on GMRS in the “open mode” is inconsistent with the radios Part 95E certification and hence, use at your own risk. 12V Battery Eliminator for UV-5R GMRS?
WRYS709 replied to WRXB215's question in Technical Discussion
I purchased from Amazon the one you linked as 7.4V just over 5 years ago to use my Baofeng Tri-Bander UV-5x3 in the shack with my 12 volt power supply and external antenna. The difference in voltages: None. It is 12v input and 7.4v output. -
Car Roof Mounted FRS Radio with Antenna
WRYS709 replied to Over2U's topic in Family Radio Service (FRS)
In my experience, code plugs created by the Retevis Ra-25 CPS software cannot be shared nor used by those who use the Anytone/Radioddity CPS software. This is especially a problem for radio clubs that offer pre-programmed code plugs for their members. -
Car Roof Mounted FRS Radio with Antenna
WRYS709 replied to Over2U's topic in Family Radio Service (FRS)
My personal preference would be either the Anytone AT-779 or Radioddity DB20-G because of problems that the Retevis CPS software imposes on the code plug produced. -
Car Roof Mounted FRS Radio with Antenna
WRYS709 replied to Over2U's topic in Family Radio Service (FRS)
Use of FRS radios is a controversial topic amongst GMRS users, as they mostly see it as more interference to their licensed activities. So you are asking the fox how best to protect the henhouse! I say: Just get yourself a GMRS license and now you can use detached antennas and more power! Good luck! -
How Texas became known as The Friendly State East Coast GMRS... not so much!

Radio? Repeater name and location? Generally speaking it is best, at least in the beginning, to not include any Receive tone in your programming, as incorrect inputs may be the problem. Try it again without any Receive tone. HT? Try again outside and from a location that you expect to be line of sight to the location of the repeater.

Good luck and don’t forget to refer back to my post about installing the drivers for the two different cables available for Windows 11.

Sounds, to me, like she did not believe: Thank goodness, he keeps an HT in the bathroom!

Thank you for your response and I am sorry to hear that you have not had the chance to tryout the newest steps that worked for me in Windows 11. I have been waiting for your success, but since it seems that you are at about the end of your rope with Windows 11, and will borrow an older computer, I will go ahead and publish my results for the benefit of others, who may be similarly situated. Please let us know how it works out for you, as this is a very popular radio with so many other successful users.

I think the statute of limitations has passed and I can tell this story: Years ago I picked up the pair of ICOM R-7000 and R-71 receivers at a garage sale for $50. The UHF model did not have the cellphone frequencies blocked and, it still being analog, I used to enjoy spending Saturday nights listening to guys calling their girlfriends from their cars!

Take a look at the Alpha-Delta coaxial switches: https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/alf-delta-4b While a bit pricey, they have much better SWR than the cheaper knock-offs! I use one for 4 different radios to my VHF/UHF antenna and another for 2 different radios to my HF antenna.

What's your GMRS mobile setup, and how does it work for you?
WRYS709 replied to WRQC527's topic in General Discussion
Thank you! That's about $30; here is a less expensive alternative: -

Which cup holder mount did you get? -
Just checking in to see if you have had a chance to get your 779UV working in Windows 11?

Sorry, the only Wouxun product that I have purchased, a tri-band Ham Radio HT, I sold on eBay after I could not find a MARS/CAPS modification. I have never attempted to use any scrambler feature on any of my radios, as I view that as a violation of the FCC rules that will be taken very seriously by their staff.

I am assuming that you get the same notification as below when you go to COM->SET COM: But it is a good sign that Device Manager recognizes the Prolific driver. Do a right-click on Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM4) and go to PROPERTIES and post screenshots for the General tab and Driver tab. What version of the Anytone CPS software are you running. I will attach a copy of version 2.01. And, since I know it works well with the Anytone, I will also attach a zip of the Radioddity v2.02 CPS software. What version of firmware is installed: Power off, hold down V/M key and Power on - it will show "V2.xy at the bottom of the screen; turn off power If these do not work, I am starting to smell a hardware problem. Are you still within the Amazon refund window? Will Hesenate swap it for another radio and cable? They should certainly send you the WCH chip'd USB cable instead of the problematic Prolific cable; to try first. AT779UV_Setup_2.01.exe Radioddity DB20-G Programming Software 2.02_20210707.zip

And: installing this alternative Prolific driver does NOT interfere with my USB to Baofeng UV-5R cable's ability to work with Chirp in Windows 11. It should utilize a different COM numbered port and you may have to use Device Manager to determine the proper COM number for the Baofeng/Chirp cable. However, be sure to quit the Anytone CPS software before you run Chirp.
