Stating the fact that there are not droves of GMRS users across the country staring at their radios every-night waiting to chit-chat with strangers is not dissuading anyone from doing anything. Its simply stating a fact. If this makes you sad, I have just the cure to ease your pain and itching.

It means he was paid to say that... You gotta watch those video guys.. They're all just shills hawking that cheap chinese junk and they will say anything the company instructs them to say. I know this because "some people" proclaim this, so it must always be true in every instance.. But seriously, any time someone is paid to review a product, you do have to take it with a bag of salt unless that person has shown their trustworthiness by doing things like calling-out junk when they see it, even if it makes the manufacturer sad.

GMRS is not really intended to find anonymous men to chat with for "action". For that kind of "action" you might want to look into H.A.M. radio or the Grindr app for your phone. GMRS is primarily intended for things like communicating with your group while off-roading, hiking, caravanning, etc. so in many/most places it is very quiet.

This is why I always recommend buying from Amazon instead of direct from the manufacturer website, even if it costs 6 more dollars, because of how easy Amazon makes it to do returns.. Not so much when you buy direct.

According to the CDC, since 2012, about 400 people have been struck by lightning. According to the FCC, since 2012, less than 10 people have gotten into trouble for transmitting on GMRS at over 50watts, not using a callsign, etc. To me, it would seem that @WRXB215 MIGHT be exaggerating or fear mongering..

You can't.

Contrary to the lies that "some people" will try and tell you it would be unheard of for the FCC to fine you or confiscate anything. At worst you would get a letter asking you to stop breaking any rules.(source: FCC public enforcement database). That said, it is always a good idea to follow the rules. There is no FCC rule prohibiting connection your repeater to Zello (MY repeater is connected to Zello) (Source, FCC Part 95).. You just have to ensure that everyone using your repeater is licensed, uses their callsign, etc. There is a rule regarding not connecting your radio to the "public switched telephone network", which "some people" misinterpret to mean "the internet", but this is not my (or most people's) interpretation. When in doubt, do not listen to what I, or anyone else on the internet says, read the rules for yourself.

The XTL5000s in my Jeep and in my wife's, both work in water and on land.

For one radio I use a Midland MXTA26 on a cookie-sheet in the window, connected to a KG1000G. My repeater AND my XTL5000 are both connected to a Tram 1486 on the roof. Both get me ~75-80 miles of farz which is about my limit because of the geography, but the 1486 on the roof can pick up a LOT more/much weaker signals.

Many people have reported this with other manufacturers software and it has always been a false-positive, but I don't recall seeing this mentioned with the 935G software.. Where did you download it from? The only safe/trusted source would be from BuyTwoWayRadios.com .

Many, many photos and video clips of soldiers over there using Baofeng UV-5R radios.

The KG-S72C CB radio is roughly the size of a UV-5R.. Not bulky by any measure.. But yah, you do need a very big antenna for it to work well...

As an unlicensed H.A.M. for over 40 years, I can tell you that you are 100% correct.

You can listen to it on Channel 16, but to transmit through the repeater you will need to get the tone(s) and configure your radio to use Repeater Channel 16. I'm sure there are probably some Youtube videos explaining how it all works.

Welcome to the exciting and dynamic world of GMRS radios! ..I cant be sure about what you were hearing, but I think it was a repeater.

I use a Tram 1486 on my repeater.. Its not very expensive, it has a very low wind-profile and it does not look like some kind of space-antenna on the roof. EDIT: .. and it is very easy to tune for GMRS.
