You may be hearing a linked repeater. There's quite a few of them here in AZ too. I'm just outside of Phoenix, but because of the linked repeaters, I hear a group talking in Albuquerque almost daily when I'm scanning.

Like @Sshannon said, your farz probably wont change in any way that you will ever see or notice, but just knowing that you have that additional power feels good.

H8SPVMT got a reaction from WRUI314 in GMRS for my Jeep
I have had the Midland MXT400 in my Jeep Wrangler for about three years now.  I usually get the most use out of it on trail rides.  As I understand it, the MXT500 is pretty much the same but with more output power.  Also you can select the wideband feature that will assist in getting better reception of other brand systems.  Midland is usually a narrow band and it makes you turn un the volume to hear wideband radios better.

My daily driving usage has been very limited and involves GMRS repeaters when/where available.  Overall, there are few people using this system of communication except to speak with fellow travelers or local neighbor chats.  Businesses around town use it often.  For me I set the channel selector on SCAN and that is what I hear the most of.

    H8SPVMT got a reaction from WRXW945 in MXT400 - CTCSS/DCS code scanning
There is no TONE SCAN button on the Midland MXT400 so......
I found thru experimentation that I can SCAN CTCSS/DCS tones on the MXT400.
The procedure is easy to do actually:
    1. Select the frequency of the repeater then:
    2. Push the TS/DCS button once and then:
    3. Hold down the TS/DCS button until a scan starts
I believe it will scan until the MXT 400 determines the proper code. While in the SCAN Mode, I turned the frequency selection knob and see that it changes/reversed the order of the actual scan too, cool!

Absolutely. It's a tough sell to get people to understand that for as many similarities there are between GMRS and ham radio, (push the button and talk, your voice comes out of someone else's radio), GMRS and ham are completely different in a lot of ways in terms of their intended uses and user base. It's more likely you'll hear someone on GMRS say real quick their Jeep is stuck again, but on ham you'll hear a 75 year old giving you 15 minutes about how his gout is flaring up for the fourth time this week.

I have heard rumors that they will be available for sale beginning the last week of July, and on the same day the worlds most popular and most widely-loved GMRS YouTuber will be releasing a video about all 4 of the new antennas.
But, you know, those are just rumors...

There may be other ways to get the repeater information such as the local ham/GMRS group or by scanning the input frequency with a radio that can scan for the tone, then connecting to the repeater and calling out/asking for permission, or just using it until someone tells you to not use it.

I'm close enough to know where (and what!) the Qmart is, and trust me, they are not the only local users on 151.625.  I've got a license for that frequency & use it in my VHF rental fleet. My biggest problem on that channel is a bunch of paving contractors who use it as an unlicensed "chat channel" while they're driving between jobs. Judging by what I've heard & how far apart they've been, they're using at least 25 to 40 watt mobile radios on what's supposed to be a low power channel.
Not quite sure why you would willingly admit to operating unlicensed on a freq, but if you're looking for a blessing I doubt you're going to find it. However, in reality you are not the first and probably won't be the last to violate the rules in VHF.

First, you have to understand the history of the restriction.  This type of rule is what is commonly referred to as a Sentence Enhancer.  Meaning, if you are committing crimes... you are going to be charged with violating the law.  If you use a radio to commit the crime, you now have violated another law and will be charged with another crime.  If you used codded messages, concealment or some means to hide the fact that you are breaking the law while using a radio to do it, this Rule becomes a sentence enhancer for the Law you violated and you are now charged with 2 counts of violating the law restricting the use of the personal radio service to commit a crime.

If you are very obviously talking in some type of code, are caught and are suspected of committing a crime because you are violating this rule, even if you are found not to be committing a crime, you risk getting anything from a No-No letter from the FCC to jail time.  So, since I am pretty sure you already know the answer to your own question, just don't be a dumb-dumb about it and you will be fine.

Don't attempt to define the undefinable.  If what you are saying is public knowledge, generally published, or generally excepted as not a cipher, code or some form of concealment, everyone listing will know.  Context is everything.

Absolutely and I do for for most all channels.  When traveling across country through sometimes I hear repeaters not listed on MyGMRS.com and think it would be nice to know the information, just in-case I get in a jam.  I remember to clear the channels I use after leaving the areas most times.

C/P to add in my notes for times that I am near other GMRS activities.  I'm trying to keep a list of Frequencies/Channels and tones for my travels.  Seems some frequencies are more desired by repeater operators than others, so I have to keep swapping CTCSS/DCS tones as we travel.  Having that information about scanning will likely assist me too, THANKS!

Well I looked at the manual for your radio and oddly you are correct that it doesn’t mention having this feature.  What you are describing is Tone Scan, here is a description from my KG-935 plus. It works for CTCSS and DCS as well, you have to select one first and someone must be transmitting to receive the tones.
    21: TONE-SCAN] CTCSS/DCS Scanning
Function: Scans the incoming signal for CTCSS or DCS tones to identify or confirm the correct tone. This function must be activated while receiving a signal.
    Options: 1. CTCSS/2. DCS
Default: None. Choose the function and press [MENU] to activate the scan.
Note: The scan will stop when the signal ends and resume from where it left off the
next time the signal is received, until it identifies the correct tone. Use the [UP]/[DOWN] arrow keys to scan in a different direction.

I agree. I would periodically check the data base to see if there are any changes and keep on using your license.
