  1. Neither. The set screws should pierce the paint and get ground on the hood.
  2. P25 radios with TDMA will only work in trunking applications. They will not work in TDMA mode as simplex or conventional. That is still FDMA.
  3. There is no tuning of that antenna. If you want a better match try a 1/4 wave.
  4. They used to sell a Mini-UHF to SO239 jumper cable. I suggest finding one of them vs an adapter. Used hundreds of them in my shop days for control station installs.
  5. First off the MCS uses MCS software and not CPS R02.03.00. MCS is no longer supported by MSI so web searches may yield something beneficail.
  6. Depending on what the height of the camper is you may be better off with a small fiberglass antenna on the ladder. Thats what I run at camp (on my repeater) and it works really well. For the most part there is no metal in the camper roof. Even where the AM FM antenna is its just plywood with a ground wire on the cable. I run the Laird FG4500 and it works great. I have LMR400 run up the ladder and under the RV to the compartment with the repeater. When installed its actually a bit lower than my vent covers but i still remove depending on where I plan to drive.
  7. Many do not put there repeaters on zello or other networks. This isn't ham radio. If you want to listen on zello there is a search for GMRS.
  8. Shouldn't take long with an HT to figure out where its coming from. Law may or may not understand the issue so may refer you to a vendor to assist.
  9. Do not run the ground the battery. Make sure its on a chassis ground. The antenna you list is a amateur radio antenna. You are getting RF in your amp most likely from the cables. Have you test VSWR on the antenna. You could try some ferrite beads on the AMP input cables.
  10. I have no issues in the JT or JK. I assume this is an aftermarket head unit ? If you know its the radio may not be alot you can do.
  11. I don't now where you heard this but this is not the case at all. Ham will pay a license fee as does GMRS users but they wont get any discount or addition for GMRS. Each service has its own rules and regulations. Amateur Radio is just that. GMRS is another service and should never be the same as Amateur Radio. Amateur's Radio has hundreds of UHF frequencies to use. That's where they should be. I don't understand the fascination hams have to GMRS to be honest and the thought they should get something cheaper or free because they are hams.
  12. Most likely the antenna. You did use the correct PVC for the antenna ? Or did you guy it complete ? The antenna is not the best on the market but many like them because they are cheap. I'd start there.
  13. Well I doubt you'll see a huge increase for the fact most of the JJ community doesn't think they need a license. On my last JJ ride I asked multiple guides who had GMRS radios and all told me they didn't need a license. I tried to educate and also sent emails to JJ and midland that never were replied to. The general feeling was JJ had a license and guides didn't need them. We all know this is wrong but that's not what they feel. I also talked to multiple jeep folks who had mobiles. Not one had a GMRS license.
  14. In the radio world we use db for receive sensitivity. Looking at a cheap radio most dont publish this specification as they probaby dont know.   15. I was in SAR in NY for 30 years before moving to VA. Have not found a team in VA in my area that actually is organized. Still do a ton of work in NY on radios for the SAR community.
  16. 99% of the NMO mounts are RG58. There are some low loss ones that people have tried over the years but in a 15' cable you wont notice the difference unless you get up in the 2.4 ghz frequencies. I still drop a piece of good heat shrink over the cable where it hits the base. I have them on vehicles in CNY winters for years. I run this on my JK (front fender mount) and on my JT (Back Rack mounted). Your antenna will make more difference on the jeep than the cable.
  17. The larsen antenna will probably work better that the 5/8 wave on the jeep. The NMO mount is standard. All NMO will come with RG58.
  18. From my experience there is not alot of useable repeaters in NYC. The only real repeaters are locked down and filled with intentional interference.
  19. I think the thought process is scewed anyway as the amount of folks I tell they need a license is more and more daily. With JJ and other promoting the radios they are not really promoting the license part. Sadly I see this getting worse not better.

  21. Have you put a watt meter in between the repeater and antenna line ? While I think the tram is junk without real tests you can't say for sure. If your seeing this poor of performance to me there is no TX power making it to the antenna. A valid test at the back of the repeater measuring power and reflected power is needed. Additionally as others mentioned check duplexor cables and desense thru the duplexer.
  22. Correct. Many of the hams are all up in arms. I think its fine to charge a small fee.
  23. Stock antenna is magnetic so stainless and aluminum is no good for his use. As said 6" minimum but larger the better.
