I agree 100%! You get every Tom, dick, and Harry wanting to set up a repeater just because they want one. Don't ask for a new mode of communication to compensate for irresponsible use of spectrum.

Then stop putting repeaters on top of other repeaters! Simple solution because you don't need more than a few. Here in Southern California we have idiots that need to shut up and allow others to periodically use the frequency. Those are the real issues.

Why not just take the test for amateur radio if you want to do as there are plenty of dmr repeaters. I'll stick to my p25 radios.

In the first place, we don’t all agree. In my opinion MURS is intended for short distance unlicensed simplex communications. Allowing repeaters drastically changes that and would make it harder to use those five channels for short ranges.
The fact that a licensed service like GMRS is permitted repeaters doesn’t justify MURS repeaters.  Repeaters aren’t permitted on any unlicensed services that I know of. I’m not sure why anyone would want to spend a couple thousand bucks to put a 2 watt repeater on a tower anyway.
I just don’t understand what you’re trying to make MURS into.

Hmmmm..... Don't know what what I'm doing wrong..... I'm hitting 46.4 to 50.8 watts on all  high channels.... on a ground plane.... in the attic..... with LMR400 coax....  able to talk good and clear on all high channels and repeaters..... Checked two of the three GMRS-50-V2 units I have, and both get the same watts, etc! I guess I'll have to check the third mobile unit when it gets back, just to be sure..... But, so far, I think they're great.
I also have two GMRS-V2 units, and have checked them both for wattage out...... Hmmmm... both doing about  4.3 to 4.9 watts out...... Maybe...... I don't know for sure....just maybe..... all five units that I'm running are great radios that do what they say they'll do........ I'm happy with BTech GMRS-50V2  50 watt units (I have 3 units in use) and the handhelds GMRS-V2 (I have 2 units in sporatic... sometimes use).  Anyway, TMO.

I call MDC "whacker tone" because whackers use it to sound "official". I really see no legitimate use for it at all.

No debate from me on the fact that what the rule says is that hams can use any *amateur* frequency in an emergency.
I will, however, disagree with your assertion that "Most hams" think otherwise.  Some?  Oh definitely.  But not most.

That's an incorrect statement. They are allowed to use any Amateur Radio Frequency only. I'm sure this will spark a debate but that's the rules. Most hams will bend them to allow them to talk on public safety and other frequencies claiming the rule.

@MichaelLAX my issue with you is you continually tell folks to use uncertified radios for our service. Your the troll here. Have you noticed others have left the site over your BS ? Doubt it cause you dont care. Go back to your basement and play with your action figures. Maybe California will break off the US and we will all be happy.

jwilkers got a reaction from RayP in Why really some folks say GMRS repeater linking is illegal
The applicable rule in this matter is §95.1733(a)(8) which prohibits any messages which are both conveyed by (any form of) wireline control link (which will include internet connections) and transmitted by a GMRS station.

GMRS was created with the intent of being a short range service not a bunch of interconnected repeaters for worldwide use (that’s the realm of amateur radio, common carrier services, and the internet).

Does it actually display their call sign?  Just curious.....if there is something to this.  At any rate, reading replies to my comment has educated me a bit and I see that MDC is likely used in important ways.

Check menu #19 and make sure its set to OFF, and make sure that all the call-id/group-call options are turned off.
If that doesn't fix it, do a factory reset (Menu #45, option #1)..
If THAT doesn't fix it, contact BTech support and tell them to send you one that isnt broken.

That is almost certainly an "MDC" on Motorola radios, or "FleetSync" on some Kenwood radios.  It's a digital identifier that other radios of the same type can read and display on their screen.

Personally as much as folks want digital I think its in FCC and evey one best interest to stay analog. There are only a handful of repeaters for GMRS and if we add in DMR, P25, NXDN then it will turn into the ham bands. If you really need digital get a ham license or another license and use that service.

Actually, there is another channel that has been in place for decades. 462.675 pl 141.3 has been the recognized travel channel for decades. Many repeaters are here, on this frequency/tone.

It would have been a good idea to do your homework before all this. All you are doing is creating confusion.
