  1. Fiberglass is considered stronger than steel when comparing their strength-to-weight ratios, meaning fiberglass can provide similar strength while being much lighter. Carbon Fiber is even greater in strength than steel compared to to strength-to weight ratios and less in weight compared to to fiberglass. And then consider some vehicles are now made with aluminum, which is great for strength but offers poor flexibility and impact resistance which would be a poorer choice of mounting an antenna too.
  2. Good for you and your area. Not everyone Is blessed with your options, it’s a big world out there and everybody has their own ideas how to enjoy it.
  3. To some people, common sense clearly tells them it makes more sense to spend $50-100 bucks a year to utilize a well maintained repeater system that can reach across multiple counties and even states. Think about that for a minute, a repeater system with a net worth close to $50K and they only have to spend $100 year in membership fees.. As JB would say,,,, Common Mannnnnn
  4. give the guy a break,, he is an innovator.. He invents problems that don't exist.
  5. you are funny,, inventing a problem that doesn't exist.
  6. appositely no problems with the set screws,, Zero, nada... Have you had problems with set screws. please explain..
  7. I get more pleasure taking a crap.
  8. i've been using Midland antennas on my mobile's for about 4 years now and won't use anything else. To the guy that calls Midland 'junk'. I challenge you to prove to me that you are correct. With all the actual test i have done using numerous other antennas, i can promise that Midland antennas outperform many others.
  9. I think the only profit to be had is going to be barely enough to recoup the investment, if even that.. A guy i recently met whom is also a HAM operator had over a dozen GMRS repeaters. And he wasn't using cheap equipment. He admits to charging membership fees to make money. His membership numbers aren't that great to make him a fortune. My math tells me he was barely scraping the barrel to pay for the operation. The guy is a 'radio nut' he enjoys radio and nothing else. He is obviously doing what he does to keep himself occupied and happy. He was linking all his repeaters and he believed he was operating his repeaters within the rules, but after the FCC clarified the rules on GMRS linking he is in process of decommissioning.. I bought one of his repeaters and it's a damn nice piece of equipment. Some of his sites, he does pay tower lease so even an added expense. I still scratch my head why someone will spend the amount of money they do. I finally concluded, it doesn't matter to me,, it's there 'business'
  10. aside from communicating in that zoo, i would try a couple cheap handhelds first and try to connect through one of the repeaters (of course asking permission to use) My experience using GMRS in your area is hit and miss and very busy.. Good Luck
  11. Although I've never really used it, my repeater is set up to remotely disable/enable and i can even send the commands via my cell phone.
  12. The Chinese are busy at the moment making deals with Vietnam and India to manufacture their products.. I'm sure they will do the same with their testing. Move it out of China into another country but with the same motives doing it in the heart of China. Pretty soon, you see Baofang made in China and Baofang made in India.
  13. for the most part and in most areas i agree, GMRS users are generally polite, however in the areas if have traveled in in the last two three years (in this order) i find Los Angles, Sacramento, Dallas, parts of Arizona and parts of Washington to be complete jerks. Los Angeles i just turn the radio off..
  14. These off shore call centers (mostly India) the our banks, and medical professions contract with is scary, especially considering the personal informations these call centers have on you in another country that has zero identity laws.
  15. in my case, it was just easier to close my bank account and walk across the street and open a new one with a different bank.. Symantec actually got sued for their scam practice a few years after this happen. I was part of the class action dn got a whopping $43 bucks for my part.
  16. I'd get a fiberglass magnet and try that
  17. You would think it would be that easy but nope. Read this article https://www.creditcardreviews.com/blog/yes-you-can-be-auto-billed-even-if-you-change-your-card-number
  18. CTCSS is older and more prone to spurious noise opening the squelch - weather or ambient. Additionally, there are relatively few usable tones. DCS is newer was was designed to address those shortcomings. Both came out of Motorola, who initially was one of the only manufacturers of radios with enough frequency stability to use DCS (though others caught up quickly). Even today, some Baofeng as they age have trouble with a DCS system. Also, many older radios can't use DCS at all, and a few transitional models needed modules to enable it (usually you'd swap our the CTCSS module to a dual mode module). So, yes, DCS is better, but CTCSS more compatible.
  19. i remember some 10 years ago subscribing to Norton Antivirus and having to close my bank account because them suckers kept charging for the service i canceled. Cancelling the card didn't work because Norton pays the banks for some stupid service that allows them to follow a customers account via Visa.
  20. You are not listening,, 'It's the Winds'
