  1. I don’t think @OffRoaderX is wrong here. If they can hear you but you can’t hear them remove the RX tones from the offending programmed channel and you should be able to hear everything on said channel/frequency. It’s likely that tone is incorrect.
  2. @WRQC527 posted a DIY filter he made in a similar thread.
  3. I just spit my soup ? I did not know if I should give this a like or a laughing emoji… they both both seemed appropriate.
  4. @ke6atj you can also report this thread. I have done this myself before, feels odd reporting yourself but I think he’ll address it quickly.
  5. Send Rich a message https://mygmrs.com/contact This happens more often than it should. People mistakenly add repeaters as theirs thinking they are adding to a list of repeaters they are interested in. This is a huge flaw and problem that just isn’t being addressed. People have come here knowing they did this and trying to get help to remove it but most times I don’t think people even know they did it.
  6. Don’t forget GMRS is line of site so regardless of what the repeater map shows you may get more or less depending on the terrain. You can use this tool to get an idea of what the path looks like. https://www.scadacore.com/tools/rf-path/rf-line-of-sight/
  7. No apology necessary, I just thought I’d point out the answer was there. Not like I’ve never missed something in a post ?
  8. You might have to wire it in to the 12 battery but it would be perfect for this vehicle ?$199.99 on Amazon. Get the grandkids started early ?
  9. Perhaps it does, at the very least it did back in the day. Complete with all 14 FRS channels this baby can be yours from eBay for $39.99. Just remember the radio is in the antenna so maybe don’t get this and put it on your car if you’re in a warm sunny climate. As a novelty it’s a tempting purchase. https://www.ebay.com/itm/VTG-RadioShack-21-1850-14-Channel-Mobile-Marine-Personal-Radio-OPEN-BOX-Shrink-/144665973719?pageci=9091b0ac-2f59-4fe2-acbf-54bcce57b3d8&redirect=mobile
  10. Derrick150 don’t panic. If you got a charge on your card you should have an email from the FCC very soon, likely less than two days. It may take longer to get into the data base that they send out that this site uses to verify your call sign. That’s pretty normal. Keep checking your email and check your spam folder too. If you go ahead and use your radios especially for first 22 channels no one is going to care or come after you. Don’t worry about repeaters, you don’t need one. You can learn all about that here at your leisure after your trip to the lake. Your wife is free to use the radios with your call sign. Just enjoy the lake and your new radios and the company of your wife. It’s going to be fine.
  11. @Sshannon’s recommendation is good, get rid of the RX tones at least until you know you are hitting the repeater. I think you have your input and output tones swapped. Just in case it helps which UV9G? Baofeng or Wouxun?
  12. You may want to look a the first reply in the thread. You’re right about not seeing it anytime soon but the reason is it’s not allowed. FRS is hand held only as well as a fixed antenna.
  13. it continues… it has become an infinite loop. I mean you just gotta laugh ?? please return to page one and repeat as needed ? ?
  14. Well at least you’re starting out slow.? you may be on a budget but it’s a good one. Good luck and pictures please when you’re set up.
  15. You’re right. Yeah I think I’m the one at fault here. I read into this far more than I should. I apologize. I should have taken the question at face value. Respectfully if @shevo7385 is looking for more power than GMRS and as stated in another thread is interested in coast to coast ham would be a good option.
  16. Okay I clearly edited my post. As my first statement was not helpful. I don’t know how to go about exactly what you are asking but you could link to Zello and have transmission from your repeater be broadcast on the Zello app. I don’t have personal experience with this but Notarubicon aka @OffRoaderX has some videos on the subject.
  17. Yeah, me too. @shevo7385 50 is max and 50 is enough. Perhaps ham radio would be better for you.
  18. The advantage of not setting receive tones is you’ll hear other transmissions regardless if they are through the repeater or simplex. This can help avoiding stepping on someone else’s transmission. You can always use the monitor button to make sure the channel is clear also. Just some thoughts and options.
  19. for more details… https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-47/chapter-I/subchapter-D/part-95/subpart-E/section-95.1751
  20. After 15 minutes of use and at least once every 15 minutes thereafter during a series of transmissions lasting more than 15 minutes. Many repeaters will transmit the ID without tones so if you listen with the receive tones set you won’t hear the ID. Which is nice because it doesn’t interfere with your talking.
  21. It is likely the repeater identifying itself via Morse code.
