  1. Anything that has to do with anything other than FRS channels is on topic because the topic is “avoiding FRS channels”. That’s just how I interpreted it anyway ?
  2. Yeah it really is something to see. As an electrician I was called to a home once where the lightning hit a tree on top of the mountain next to the home, it split the tree in half, just exploded it and blew all the sprinkler pipes out of the ground. Quite a sight.
  3. @Arveetek I would add some credence to @Sshannon’s thoughts about POSY. It matches the frequency you say you are hearing, it’s part of the linked network I posted above and it’s in the area of the state you mention. As @Sshannon mentioned, knowing where exactly you are would help in the diagnosis of what repeater but remember hight is king for distance. You can see the probability of line of site with this tool https://www.scadacore.com/tools/rf-path/rf-line-of-sight/
  4. That certainly fits the bill and it's part of their linked repeater network. ?
  5. It looks like @jsneezy is correct about it likely being a linked repeater, here is the groups web page https://arkradio.net/linking/
  6. I found that Retevis.com has the manual in english here RA87-English-Manual
  7. Thanks. Yeah she used to worry when I window shopped but she knows I usually research something to death first. I told her about some unobtainium OEM car part the other day that came up for sale at a great price and she says "get it, you'll wish you had".
  8. So I told my wife about your comment "after all it's on sale" and she says (jokingly of course) "you're not allowed to play with Sshannon anymore.? I also saw that. Linkable like the Wouxun KG-1000 for repeater use. They even make it easy for you with this set up also on sale. After seeing some peoples issues with the two radio repeater set ups I remain skeptical of how well this set up will work. I bet they meant to say 5 watt rather than 50. No one uses an editor anymore.
  9. I seem to recall it taking two weeks for me. The FCC was having issues with their data uploads even though I had my license they had stalled out putting it in the data bank that this site uses for updating it's info. be patient, they'll get there. You can check here to see if it's been added Daily & Weekly Transaction Files | Federal Communications Commission.webloc
  10. So I downloaded the manual from Retevis Solutions and it has an only partially in english manual but it’s from a Recent RS-900 which from what I can gather is a 60 watt Ham version. Though I haven't found much on it and I haven't found an FCC number. It sure looks the same so my guess it’s factory reprogramed for GMRS… I'm still searching for more info. I am intrigued. I'm tempted to get one just to know but that would be silly right? Right??
  11. Well I would love to see @OffRoaderX give a review. What do you say Randy, anything in the pipeline for this?
  12. It just means it transfers one source to another for a common output. P.S. I like where you’re heading with this solution. ?
  13. You guys are taking me back. I had one of these whips on my CJ back in the day. It doesn’t even fit in frame here. Jeez I’m old.?(40 years ago)
  14. That’s because that’s a GMRS radio. The question was about FRS radios. Extra channels are repeater channels.? Just a guess.
  15. That's a good question. When it comes to the GMRS radios I think @Sshannon is correct and he may be correct for FRS as well, with a few exceptions I think the tones are left off but it seems to me I have heard of some FRS bubble pack radios coming with tones preset though I can't confirm this myself.
  16. I think the generally accepted practice for open repeaters is to use what has become known as the travel tones aka 141.3 and temporary repeaters are just that. Used while the group is out and gone when they go. I wouldn’t think promoting it would be all that necessary. Of course if it’s your repeater you can do as you wish. I don’t really see a need for it though. Of course if it’s not yours than that would be a hard no.
  17. I think you need to be a premium member to use the classifieds
  18. It is just a guess, it's not hurting anyone regardless and if it needs attention I'm sure Rich will handle it. Remember this is a one man operation and still the best game in town for GMRS repeater info. It is pleasant there isn't it.? ??️??
  19. Assuming they bother to check their messages. It’s also possible they are doing some kind of testing as the post was made by the name chirp. Either way I let @rdunajewski know and since this is his site it is the most I can or care to do.
  20. Fair enough but I think something else is going on here as most of these are not actual places that exist
  21. Well that’s a new one. Looks like one more in AK as well checking the owners page. Perhaps this is a legitimate test but I reported this post in case @rdunajewski needs a heads up.
  22. I don’t think @OffRoaderX is wrong here. If they can hear you but you can’t hear them remove the RX tones from the offending programmed channel and you should be able to hear everything on said channel/frequency. It’s likely that tone is incorrect.
  23. @WRQC527 posted a DIY filter he made in a similar thread.
  24. I just spit my soup ? I did not know if I should give this a like or a laughing emoji… they both both seemed appropriate.
  25. This ^^^ ?
