  1. I would highly recommend choose one that works with Chirp. When first getting your feet wet with programming it is far easier. Once you grasp things better you can make better use of front loading the radios. IMO. changed my statement as I had missed that you were using proprietary software. My mistake.

As @BoxCar stated I also would not recommend unlocking an amateur radio to access GMRS at 5 watts where you are or worse yet Murs frequencies and I certainly would not recommend the easily opened, waterproof Baofeng GT-3WP. I think my recommendation on record was the Garmin ?

Perhaps a Garmin Inreach explorer+ might suit your situation better.
  4. Glad to help, I was hoping for more radio related content ?
  5. I don't agree that a base station becomes a "fixed station" as defined by the FCC, although it is in a fixed location. The distinction being that a fixed station only communicates with other fixed stations. Fixed station. A station at a fixed location that directly communicates with other fixed stations only. a base station is just that Base station. A station at a fixed location that communicates directly with mobile stations and other base stations. I do however agree that once you use a base station through a repeater it then becomes a control station, which I beleave is the point you are making. Control station. A station at a fixed location that communicates with mobile stations and other control stations through repeater stations, and may also be used to control the operation of repeater stations.
  6. It was a valiant effort sir. For that I commend you.?
  7. The (pantomime) horse is dead. ? fixed station: one that is no longer broken ? ?
  8. I did a little digging thinking maybe something existed in the market place that would match the criteria of a fixed station using the frequencies being discussed here. So I searched for wireless intercoms and GMRS/FRS and I found a couple. Here's the thing, of the two I found they both used either Murs or business band UHF except for the Canadian market. I just thought this was interesting to the conversation.
  9. Haaaaa! ? you walked right into my joke. Couldn’t help yourself, gee thanks for correcting me. Obviously they don’t ? Uma Uma! ? but I really don’t get upset if it means something to someone else. My point wasn’t so much what you said but the way you said it… Don’t do this. Don’t do that. All caps. At the end of the day none of your points were against any FCC rules. You can explain proper protocol without dictating and ranting. A guest came here to ask a question and you ranted, still ranting. Fingers flying away on the keyboard. I don’t even disagree with most of what you say but man you sure want everyone to act according to your wishes. Don’t use phonetics but by god if you do don’t say Uma! ? my rules for radio are 1) don’t break FCC rules (2) be polite (3) if you break rule 1 don’t tell anyone (4)if you break 3 tell me (5) be polite All I’m saying is you seem upset and it’s not worth getting upset over. I hope you have a pleasant day. Speaking of ham, Happy Easter.
  10. I know it’s confusing but it’s not on the forum site but the main site. Where the maps, repeater info is. Log on there and go to subscriptions.
  11. So angry Oh the humanity, they did what? Aye aye sir. Ooooh I can’t wait ? please let it be you… Why do you care if he does? Even where you may be right you are coming in a little hot for such trivial things. IMO That’s just me though Whisky Romeo Uma Uma 653 ?
  12. Let’s go with that. That’s a good first instinct.
  13. My understanding is you need to log into your repeaters on the map site and it will update and it goes stale after the web page doesn’t see activity for a year.
  14. I don’t think so but I would like to see this as an option. ?
  15. Omg! ???
  16. Lol, Welcome David!
  17. Welcome, Jeff.
  18. Nor did I, I just checked the call sign. Nice work @Sshannon! Looks like you are good to go @WRWP844, no action needed, let the transmitting continue ?
  19. The idea that anyone thinks they can kick you off FRS channels is pretty ridiculous and bold. Except maybe those carnies… they can be scary ?
  20. I'm sure someone will chime in here that remembers when the rules changed and correct me if I get this wrong but my recolection is that the 90's is about when bubble pack FRS radios were introduced (Walmart, Costco...)with GMRS frequencies that were not a shrared channels yet. So people didn't pay any mind to the small print that you had to be licensed for GMRS on some of the channels. Thus the FCC changed the rules because it was to late to put the genie back in the bottle. So maybe that is why they were kicking you off. More likely they were associated with the fairground and not state constables though. I don't think that would happen today.
  21. I agree. I would periodically check the data base to see if there are any changes and keep on using your license.
  22. @WRWP844 I looked your call sign up in the FCC database and it says your license is active and doesn’t expire until 2033. Is it possible they caught their mistake already?
  23. I like Klein tools as well. I’m kind of with you on this @Sshannon, I have at least four of these and one that has been completely robbed of all the bits and is now just a multi nut driver ?. I keep buying them though and even though I have a tool bag in the truck one of these sits in the glove box because they are so handy.
  24. It’s all a trick, go back before you buy many many radios. ? In all seriousness though listening is a good start. Welcome to the forum Henrique.
