What do you all use for antennas at home?

If I were looking for a good GMRS mobile, I would look at the used or new old stock commercial radios, such as Motorola CDM 1250 or Kenwood TK-series. These radios may not be typed accepted for GMRS, but they can easily be modified for GMRS. Don't get me wrong, BTECH WOUXUN and MIDLAND have good radios, but ICOM KENWOOD MOTOROLA and VERTEX also make excellent uhf mobile radios for GMRS and other bands. Who really cares if the Radio is Part 90 or Part 95 E? As long the radio properly tuned for the GMRS, the FCC wouldn't object individuals using old Part 90 Radios.2 points

Tell me about it! I have three FTM-400s that were made in Japan and have Chinese mic cords. All be damned, one of them frayed at the mic end and lost audio. Piss poor design putting a very stiff strain relief on the cord. So what did I do to resolve this? I ordered three more Chinese cords from Mr.Chung. After all, we live in a disposable society so what else can one do?2 points

Last contact with his unit… Boris you go over there and we’ll call you on channel 15 if the area is invaded and there is a risk of capture. Some time later… Boris says to no one “I don’t think channel 15 is working”2 points -
You are correct, I can confirm one year as my friends needed updating recently.2 points

If I remember right if there are no changes/updates in over a year (maybe 2) it goes to stale.2 points

We did Greenbrier on it's inaugural event, mud festival and wet leaves all uphill it seemed, but fun. Crawled the creek it seemed for half a day! Retired Navy, had heard all about the place and wanted to see it for myself. NICE DIGS! Still doing the Williamsburg JJAMUSA now for 18 years... well will be 19 next year.2 points

Slim-jim (no ground plane needed) or stacked 5/8 wave on pizza pan. Good coax matters a lot too.1 point -
New Repeater Channels for GMRS in 2024
AdmiralCochrane reacted to WRYZ926 for a topic
We had a few members of our club look down on GMRS and give the rest of us with our GMRS licenses trouble. Those guys really poured it on when we started talking about putting up a GMRS repeater. But guess what, a few of those guys giving us trouble now have their GMRS licenses now.1 point -
The virus warning is a false positive with the 935G programming software when downloaded from Buy Two Way Radios. Myself and several others run it without any issues.1 point

Wouxun 935G software - virus?
Raybestos reacted to OffRoaderX for a topic
Many people have reported this with other manufacturers software and it has always been a false-positive, but I don't recall seeing this mentioned with the 935G software.. Where did you download it from? The only safe/trusted source would be from BuyTwoWayRadios.com .1 point -

@WRUU653 That's a great punch line! I'll do a reaction when I get replenished.1 point

Have you considered using any of the license free MURS radios? While limited to 2 watts max at VHF they do a bit better in terrain that's a bit hilly and tree covered. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-Use_Radio_Service Some examples of MURS radios. https://www.retevis.com/murs-radios https://www.buytwowayradios.com/business/murs-radios.html There is also a mobile magnet mount antenna that is usable for both GMRS and MURS in case you decide to carry both types. https://dpdproductions.com/products/dual-band-gmrs-murs-mobile-antenna1 point

Where do I start? Not exactly new to this but feel like it... repeater questions
gortex2 reacted to SteveShannon for a topic
Maybe it would make sense to start with a non-linked repeater. Many people steer clear of linked repeaters.1 point -
New Repeater Channels for GMRS in 2024

I’ve known GMRS users who have no interest in ham radio and (unfortunately) I’ve known ham radio operators who have a derisive attitude towards GMRS users who reject ham radio and then attempt to make GMRS into a no-test substitute for ham radio. But here in Montana I have not personally encountered any hams that look down on the licensed use of GMRS for group communications.1 point -
Maybe you can stop throwing hams under the bus. You're ranting to and expecting support from an audience that in many cases have both our GMRS and ham licenses.1 point
