I dont think he's been spreading it as long as you have been spreading yours. You have been challenged REPEATEDLY to provide a source for your claims, and 100% of the time, you have provided nothing more than name calling in response. HOWEVER- I would guess that complaints have actually been filed - Filing a complaint with the FCCs is simple and i would also GUESS that they receive hundreds, if not thousands of complaints for various things every day. What matters is how many complaints [related to GMRS] does the FCCs ACT ON... and, based on the FCCs public enforcement database that anyone can search through, the answer is, virtually 0 ..7 points -
Take a look at this excerpt from the Part 95 rules governing GMRS. It tells you specifically what frequencies can be used for transmitting, based on what device is doing the transmitting. Your repeater is limited to transmitting on one of the 8 frequencies listed under subsection A. To my knowledge, there is no rule that says the offset must be 5 Mhz. But, the biggest offset you can acheive with rules-accepted GMRS frequencies is (if my math is correct) 5.175 Mhz. Using an offset greater than that will put you out-of-band, either on your repeater's transmit frequency or its receive frequency, (or both) and therefore in violation of FCC rules. § 95.1763 GMRS channels. The GMRS is allotted 30 channels—16 main channels and 14 interstitial channels. GMRS stations may transmit on any of the channels as indicated below. (a) 462 MHz main channels. Only mobile, hand-held portable, repeater, base and fixed stations may transmit on these 8 channels. The channel center frequencies are: 462.5500, 462.5750, 462.6000, 462.6250, 462.6500, 462.6750, 462.7000, and 462.7250 MHz. (b) 462 MHz interstitial channels. Only mobile, hand-held portable and base stations may transmit on these 7 channels. The channel center frequencies are: 462.5625, 462.5875, 462.6125, 462.6375, 462.6625, 462.6875, and 462.7125 MHz. (c) 467 MHz main channels. Only mobile, hand-held portable, control and fixed stations may transmit on these 8 channels. Mobile, hand-held portable and control stations may transmit on these channels only when communicating through a repeater station or making brief test transmissions in accordance with § 95.319(c). The channel center frequencies are: 467.5500, 467.5750, 467.6000, 467.6250, 467.6500, 467.6750, 467.7000, and 467.7250 MHz. (d) 467 MHz interstitial channels. Only hand-held portable units may transmit on these 7 channels. The channel center frequencies are: 467.5625, 467.5875, 467.6125, 467.6375, 467.6625, 467.6875, and 467.7125 MHz.3 points

There is no way to know, because irregardlessly of what one particular untrustworthy pathological mythomaniac keeps telling us stories about, the FCC does not publish information on complaints. I could imagine that in some areas there are complaints, but whether its 1 complaint or 10,000 complaints, it does not matter as the FCCs public record on enforcement shows that, up until now at least, they execute near-zero GMRS related enforcement actions.3 points -

So, I've been thinking about joining the dark side and get the Ham Technician license. I've also been thinking about having a cb radio when we travel. I joined a cb forum trying to get some ideas. I thought I would go AM/FM and it would fulfill my needs. But I've also been googling ssb and whether I should consider that too. I was thinking about getting a Radioddity qt60 and actually had one in my cart. I've seen and read some stuff on a new qt80, and thought, let's see if there's one on Amazon. Well, when I searched on Friday, Amazon said there was only one left in they're system. So buy once cry once, right? So now I have a Radioddity qt80 coming with a Tram 3500 magnetic mount coming. Now I'll just have to see if it will fit where I want it to in my truck.2 points

Sounds good - I don’t come though often but always have some new toys to show off and some swag to go with it. I don’t mean any harm/hostility when discussing things on here in case that’s what you thought. I am only on here because I still use GMRS for family even though I have private coordinated repeaters to leverage instead - I do this for the spirit of the service more than my own personal use.2 points -

Locally, I find more of that from GMRS only licensees that are wannabe hams vs the actual dual licensees2 points -
It would be very problematic if someone were to use other than 5 MHz pairing for their repeater. If for example your output is 462.550 and your input is 467.725 , you will have no way to monitor the repeater output at 462.725 MHz and potentially will interfere with or block users on the 462.725/467.725 repeater.2 points

I kind of like the idea of my wife and son being able to raise me on the radio from home to car or vise versa and not have colostomy bag larry "jumping on" to ask my wife about what radio or antenna she's using . GMRS isn't a hobby band. Some of us actually just want to use GMRS for a utilitarian purpose (the correct usage). The repeater slots were getting jammed up with all of these linked systems. I had identical traffic on 2 of the 8 channels where I am. I'm more in favor of more localized standalone repeaters, and frankly maybe not so many of them. Leave some room for some of us who might want to put up a private Retevis thing for our own purposes some day. I frankly don't understand why so many hams got drawn over to GMRS to begin with, but they sure did because you'll learn of them being a ham within the first 2 minutes of talking.. Novelty I guess? Because they have the 440.. Just go do all of this stuff over there. Leave GMRS/FRS for the family/group coms stuff. It got so pervasive with the "WHISKEY SIERRA BRAVO FOXTROT" and "what's your callsign!" stuff that it made things unwelcoming for the casual "family licensees" to just get on and use the radio service that was FOR THEM.1 point -

It's alarming how many people believed that the entire point of GMRS was to have linked repeaters and to treat it like ham radio.. You've not been using GMRS correctly the entire time, so yes, maybe it is all over for some people, and I'm kinda glad..1 point -

So Motorola commercial products (probably other commercial radios like Kenwood as well) are well known for their ability to reject adjacent signals that could interfere with reception. That’s important if a band is congested but GMRS has very specific frequencies assigned with sufficient spacing that you should be okay with any decent handheld radio connected to a good antenna using high quality coax suitable for UHF. Do you want to receive from a single direction or are you interested in monitoring in all directions?1 point -

I never said you did… I’m hoping to actually have a substantive discussion about the merits of GMRS instead of autistic trolling. You mentioned to gatekeep above that your stance is allegedly clear on linked systems and cases of abuse (or lack thereof), and marcspaz mentions the merits of it as augmentation to public safety. If those two truly intersect - let’s hear from the “community experts”. If the user base is ever to change the rules to their benefit, they need to start actually having real discussions. I’ll happily have one unless all you have in you is insults.1 point -

GeauxGreddy reacted to WRYZ926 for a topic
Basically the only difference between the Midland SPK-100 and SPK-200 is the SPK-200 has noise cancellation and an amplifier that requires a power source. If the SPK-100 works fine in my SxS, it will work in a Jeep. One won't go wrong with either speaker.1 point -
Where would the extra frequencies/channels come from without forcing us to use narrow band for all channels? The 70cm amateur band is right below GMRS. Some business band UHF frequencies are actually in the same range as GMRS plus public safety frequencies are right above GMRS. I won't get into the narrow band vs wide band arguments here.1 point

GeauxGreddy reacted to WRYZ926 for a topic
I can vouch for the Midland SPK-100 being a good speaker and plenty loud enough to hear in a noisy environment. I have one attached to the top roll bar on my Honda Pioneer 500 and I can hear my rain just fine while running 35 mph down a gravel road. And the Pioneer 500 is pretty noisy going down the road/trail. Yes the SPK-100 cost more at around $65 -$70 but it is IP rated for water and dust. The IP rating and being 20 watts is why I went with the SPK-100 for my SxS. The SPK-100 works well with my Wouxun KG-XS20G and my TYT TH-8600 radios.1 point -

Not linked, but someone here reported that there was a locality where one licensee had 5 or 6 GMRS repeater channels tied up. There are such people and if it is allowed, somebody somewhere WILL do it. Ham doesn't have that problem partly because ham has repeater coordination. No such coordination scheme exists for GMRS nor can under current FCC regs.1 point -
So you happily make complaints to the FCC? You would have made a great German in the 1930's. This must be some sort of California mental disorder. Seriously, where did the RF hurt you?1 point

They never can. Its all made up in their vivid imagination. You would have to believe that UHF has some special propogation power that they can hear linking on all 8 channels at their location. Nobody is going to that expense to saturate the channels.1 point

lets start with eastern states and a couple mid west states. Specifically in those parts where you find massive repeaters under a single license. I'm sure if you looks at the network maps you getter a clear picture. But know you will find many are dropping of the map recently, meaning problem is disappearing. Most likely because a 'stern' message obviousley by the FCC was deployed1 point -
But....but...but isn't that what dead horses are for??1 point

A good portion of the people debating these points had no idea GMRS existed during the last NPRM comment period. Its evident with the conversation here that for those who had a license at the time, a small number of them understood the implications of the rules surrounding network connectivity (or why the restrictions were even put in place) and struggle to realize that there are contradictory statements and definitions requiring clarification... so, places like FB, reddit and MyGMRS are the only remaining place to vent frustration. At least until the next comment period, assuming they realize that is even happening when it does.1 point

I wanted to share my results of my 2nd Ed Fong GMRS antenna. This is on a 18' MFJ tripod mast on a Retevis RT97 GMRS repeater go box, powered by a 50AH lithium battery charged by tactical solar or wall charger through SAE ports on the box. Also using a repeaterid.com ID system with morse code. Couldn't be more happy with the results, the machine ran all weekend and solar kept it fully charged, and hardly any battery loss over the night. Using the 462.550 / 467.550 repeater pair with TX and RX codes. SWR under 1.1 and getting 5.2W output after the duplexer. The Fong GMRS antenna is the star, so lightweight and portable, with no need for grounding. Using 18' of Messi & Paoloni Ultraflex 7 with the good waterproof connectors (also have a 25' run of it if needed, love this cable and connectors for tactical or shorter runs). If anybody has any questions regarding this set-up, I will be more than happy to help.1 point

Am I missing something here? Why do you need an inverter for a power supply for your mobile radio to use in the car? Did I understand that right? The Midland MXT500 will run off the car power, it’s already 13.8 volts. Or is it for something else?1 point -

wayoverthere reacted to nokones for a topic
What antenna are you trying to use. The newer Silverados body materials do not have much metal in them. If you trying to use a mag-mount for a CB Firestik antenna, forget it it won't work. A K40 with the heavy duty mag-mount base will work great. If you are trying to use a mag-mount for a GMRS antenna, the Midland or Laird Mag-mounts will work great. The Midlands have the rubber boots and Laird do not. Try using some Expel Paint Protection Film in the spot where you're go8ng to place the antenna. The film will keep the mag-mount from sliding and not cloud the paint if moisture gets between the two surfaces. I'm using the protection film on my Silverado and Porsche without any problems1 point
