  1. It is common with these CCRs that more than one seller will use the same guts but different label. In many cases, the manufacturer will place the labels on at the plant before shipping to the seller. I have the "Baofeng UV-5R GMRS" and yes, I program it using "Radioddity UV-5G" in CHIRP. Baofeng does have a version of their software that will program it but I like CHIRP better.
  2. Actually, I think there is logic to how they are doing it. Unfortunately, it's not the kind of logic that you and I approve of.
  3. Just more Uncle Bill/Micro$oft shenanigans. "YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED!"
  4. I agree with @Sshannon. Lots of people have reported problems trying to connect to their radios with Windows 11.
  5. Here's another interesting letter. https://www.fcc.gov/document/thomas-warmouth-collegedale-tennessee
  6. This is a strange world we live in seeing how the information is not private in the first place.
  7. @WRYQ685 & @WRYQ274, Welcome, this is a great place to be to discuss two-way radios.
  8. @WRQC527 I'm out of reactions but as soon as the time elapses, I'm going to like that post.
  9. I can see that there are valid points being made on both sides of this. Let me point out that, in my very limited experience, I have not been able to hear more than two repeaters at the same time. That leaves me 20 other channels to use.
  10. @WRKC935 I for one, appreciate what you and others are doing in making these repeaters available. I certainly can't do it.
  11. Yeah! Don't be so "standoffish!" Sorry for the bad joke, I couldn't resist.
  12. I understand what you are saying but they are more than willing to break when someone needs to use the network.
  13. https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/MemoryEditorColumns Read up on tone mode. This really helped me.
  14. @Lscott I know Styrofoam is bad about static electricity. Would that be a problem?
  15. @marcspaz, @Sshannon It sounds like my idea of cutting off the excess cable would only be for convenience and not for loss, correct?
  16. @nokones I can't give you the answers you are looking for but one thing I want to point out that may help is that you can buy mobile mount/cables with the connector shipped loose. That way you can cut the cable after install to reduce the amount of excess cable and therefore reduce the loss. Here is a mount with cable I have my eye on. https://www.arcantenna.com/products/nmo58aucp-pctel-nmo-perm-mnt17-ft-rg58aucrimp-pl259-loose
  17. Hey! I resemble that remark!
  18. On one hand I agree. On the other hand, if that Baofeng radio is your only means of communication, it just might be worth protecting. Good writeup @WRKC935 very thorough.
  19. @Sshannon What are your thoughts on the Chinese balloon that crossed the US? It was quite large and some say it could have carried a very large EMP device.
  20. @Blaise I assume they are just giving the accused a chance to have their say before anything else happens.
  21. @WRQC527 Yes, it seems that they do not go after anyone for just that specific offense but like you said, they will toss it in to the mix. Interference though is definitely something they are going after and I'm glad they are. Interference is such an unnecessary jerk thing to do and should be punished.
  22. Not everyone will be in the worst part of an EMP. I think it's worth doing what we can to protect some communications devices.
  23. UV-5R "GMRS" with an old Radio Shack scanner antenna I had in the garage from way back. Home made adapter. Yes, I can actually talk to people with this thing.
