  1. Can't say what the problem is exactly but I know that many of us have that same issue. I did hear a short blurb a couple of times. Some people say it works just fine for them. So far, I haven't heard of a fix for the rest of us.
  2. That!!! ^^^^^^
  3. Sounds kind of like the Ch. 15 bug that affected more than one model radio.
  4. I'm glad you can afford the nice equipment. Some of us simply can't afford it and buy what we can. I can save about $20 a month for radios, sometimes. If I try to save for a Motorola, Bird, etc. I will never get on the air. As it is, I have been able to buy Baofeng UV-5R, AnyTone AT-778UV, Nagoya UT-72. With these, I have great conversations every day.
  5. It's not about popularity, it's about technical correctness. It's the same way with Stackoverflow. Answers are "peer reviewed" and the OP can get a better idea of which answers to trust.
  6. In Technical Discussion you can vote on answers. After that, you can sort by vote or by date.
  7. @WSDD519 Welcome to GMRS.
  8. If you can get an antenna up high enough, you'd be surprised how far you can reach. But then again, that can get very expensive if you need to go very high.
  9. @WQNG647 The radio I carry most of the time is the UV-5R8W. Yes, I know it isn't a GMRS radio. There are some newer radios and certainly many better ones but these are very in-expensive and work quite well.
  10. Some of the reasons I'm considering that CB you mentioned with the jumper for 10M. Edit: Whew! 667 posts. Nice to get off of that "666."
  11. @WSCZ240 In the greater Houston area we have a lot of obstruction. Trees, buildings, overpasses, etc. Sometimes moving a very short distance suddenly clears up a signal. Good antennas help, and more wattage to get though the trees, but height is the biggest factor to a good signal. Edit: Just noticed that this is my 666th post. Better post again real quick.
  12. I am not familiar with this particular context but it appears that there is no difference in this context. In certain programming languages, it is used for lambda expressions which I will not go into here because it is doubtful that it has any application here. Have you tried using both to see if you get any practical difference?
  13. Certainly a possibility. As the shenanigans on the air increase, the frequency of tone changes increase as well.
  14. At least he's diligent to do his eye exercises.
  15. That's my problem. I do better on the ground than on top of the house. To get above the thick part of the foliage, I'm going to have to get a lot higher than I can afford right now.
  16. @warthog74 Good thing you didn't have to worry about OSHA.
  17. I've been using chirp for my UV-5R8W for a few months now. I can't remember what I chose in the menu but it wasn't the BF-F8HP. If I have time during lunch today, I'll open chirp and get the radio out of the truck and see if I can figure out what I used. I haven't messed with it in a while.
  18. @WQNG647 I'm not aware of any QRZ type databases for GMRS. Have you tried any local clubs?
  19. Cool call sign though.
  20. @WRXI489 I don't know of any GMRS clubs in area but if you post your current settings we may be able to help. Just smear out the actual tones if they aren't posted publicly.
  21. Don't they provide legal help if you need it? If so, it might be worth renewing just for that bit of "insurance." Especially with HOAs being the way they are.
  22. But I'm not "most people" I'm "some p..." wait, scratch that.
  23. It's my understanding that there is a firmware update for the Quangsheng K5 that allows HF and even CW. It's an interesting radio. People can write their own firmware for it.
  24. @gortex2 I'm never bored but I'll probably read it anyway.
