Under Map Options you can check the box to include all Stale Repeaters on the Map but you have to recheck the box every time you refresh the map.

That’s right, after no updates for a period of time a repeater is marked as stale. It doesn’t mean the repeater doesn’t exist.

Actually that's not a bad idea, and I would vote yes if it came to a vote. While some folks, for some inexplicable reason say ?why?, I say "why not?"

I like that idea. I can't afford the better radios but I do have an old Kenwood TH-75A that was given to me. Just last night I had my UV-5R tuned into a net. Every time someone un-keyed, it let out a very loud and obnoxious noise. I turned on the Kenwood and it did not have that noise. With both of them on and sitting on the table, it was very obvious the difference between the two.
Even though I can't afford the good stuff, it's nice to know you actually get something for what you pay.

Yes, Randy's videos are very good. As far as "road channels" are concerned, there is nothing "official." There is a lot of history and logic that would suggest certain channels but it really depends on the group you hang out with. You use what works for you and your group or what's common in your area.

I found this on Reddit. A person accidentally enabled the password without actually setting it. It turned out that the default was 000000:

$18 or $27 is still too much to pay for a paperweight. Let’s try to help the guy figure out the problem.

If there’s truly a password. As I said, the manual doesn’t mention one. Perhaps he simply locked the keyboard. Or maybe the manual is poor.

@n2877 The question isn't so much the range of the repeater. You are obviously in "hearing" range. The question is whether or not you can hit the repeater with your radio. As @BoxCar asked, how far are YOU from the repeater and is there anything in between to hinder YOUR signal like trees, houses, etc.

Flat Earth? I saw something on a news channel report that had an "X" post stating "the Flat Earth Society has members all over the globe"

The cheap connectors have inferior dielectric between the poles as well as poorer grades of metal. The dielectric won't handle high power (KW range) as well and the center pin can more easily shift causing impedance problems if they are moved frequently. For the most part, if you use one and it stays in place there will be very little, if any, difference in the overall performance of your radio.

I'd be interested to know if the interference stops at some point when you get closer to the site. It would also probably be helpful to plot where the interference is first noted and when it disappears to get some vectors. Either way, beyond not being able to hear other radios in your party, I'd say its a good test showing selectivity and rejection of your Moto vs. other inexpensive radio on chip designs.

This report is not related to the exact problem Randy has described, but it might help understand how to report the interference. It would appear that the military takes complaints seriously.

No, reverse polarity has nothing to do with electrical polarity. RF is AC.
SMA connectors have an outer threaded sleeve and an inner pin/socket. Sometimes the SMA connector on the radio will have the male pin paired with the female threaded sleeve. The antenna will have the female center socket surrounded by a male threaded sleeve.
But it’s possible to order SMA connectors that pair the male threaded sleeve and the male center pin. The matching connector will be the female sleeve and female center connector.
So there are four permutations of the SMA. I don’t know which is considered Reverse Polarity. I just buy what looks right.
Most of my radios have a female threaded socket and male center pin, but one has a male threaded sleeve and female center socket.
Just be careful to exactly match the mechanical configuration.

Being new to the GMRS field, based on reviews my options were both the UV82 or UV5r radios. Issues at the time were backlog with orders so opted ordering the UV82 radios. So far having programmed on chirp and for usage on the farm, appears doing well for both receiving and communications on the property.

Generally speaking in flat open terrain, 6 ft of height above ground level (AGL) an antenna will reach out about 1 mile. 30ft AGL antenna height will reach out 8 miles to an antenna at 6ft AGL. I have done 75 miles with a yagi into a 400ft AGL repeater tower from my roof (35ft AGL) with a yagi and my HT.
