  1. Your two closest repeaters are both permission required, so use the Repeater section here to ask permission and then try to find their websites and ask permission there, too. Simplex you are ready to go: tune to the channel and push to talk!
  2. I purchased this one: MMDVM JumboSpot It just arrived today; I purchased on the 18th
  3. Yes, I believe you are correct; those problems are locked into firmware as part of their FCC certification for Part 95E. One solution, I believe, is the Baofeng UV-13Pro. It is the Ham Radio version of the GM-15 and is open to GMRS frequencies. As such I believe all channels are programmable. If that is something that you are interested in, I have one here (I purchased it from AliExpress for about $20 including free shipping) and I could run the software and see if I can populate GMRS Repeaters on the other channels, as well. I do not recall if Chirp supports this radio, but it would not surprise me if it doesn't.

That's the problem with "Guests" - they have no skin in the game.
  5. That's my next project: I ordered a Hotspot from China for $100, so I will be following this thread as well!
  6. No. It is a clone of the Radioddity GM-30 and not the UV-5R.
  7. When the OP comes back (if), then I’ll stop holding my breath
  8. Please restate your original question with more detail about the two stations. Pretend I am 5 years old
  9. WoW: I just got the Quansheng UV-K5(8) delivered from AliExpress today... I CAN"T KEEP UP!!!
  10. So this setup will cause you to not hear transmissions from that repeater, unless they also have a code of 67.0 set on their transmissions? Why use a channel shared with a local repeater? There will be interference when both are transmitting, subject to the "capture effect."
  11. When you are drowning in the ocean before we can send a rescue ship, here is a lifesaver to help you in the meantime. This is based upon an UV-5R Chirp file for another drowning soul: Step 1: Open your UV-5R file in Chirp Step 2: In Chirp, go from File to Export to CSV and save the file with an appropriate name. Step 3: Open the CSV file in a spreadsheet program, such as Microsoft Excel Step 4: Using Cut and Insert Cut Cells move the following Rows so that they align with your Baofeng UV-5G+ software: Location, Frequency, rToneFreq, Offset, cToneFreq, Step 5: GMRS Repeaters are always +5 MHz Offset, so for bonus points, you can create a new Row named Tx Frequency and in the topmost cell for Row E (Tx Frequency), insert the formula: = B3 + D3 RETURN and the populate the formula by copying cell E3 to the remainder of Row D. Then you can cut and Insert Cut Cells to move the Offset Row to a later point in the spreadsheet and now have a Tx Frequency Row instead. Otherwise, when the time comes, you can just manually adjust the frequency Up 5 MHz, such as 462.550 to 467.550. Step 6: Go to Row B in Excel in the first GMRS Repeater you can to move over and copy its contents - Rx Frequency. Then paste it in the appropriate cell in Baofeng Step 7: Repeat Step 6 for Rx CTS/DCS, Tx Frequency and Tx CTS/DCS Not the greatest solution, but a solution nevertheless. GOOD LUCK! Ignore Row 2 in the Spreadsheet and Rows 31 and 32 in the Baofeng software.
  12. OK: I got it, thank you; I will install it and take a look.
  13. Can you link me to the 5G+ software, so I can download it and play with it a bit? Thanks!
  14. Is it the Blossom Valley 725? Sure looks like they want you to use it without a tone. Yeah: keep that UV-5R for when you get your Technician license and get an UV-5G for GMRS. Apparently there is a new UV-5GPLUS that is now available too; I was not aware of it until I recently walked into a wall thinking it was the original 5G(X). Like Mr. Natural says: Get the right tool for the job!
  15. Please elaborate; I am not sure what the points you are trying to make in the context of the Radioddity GM-30 software: 1) Not fully compatible with what? 2) Where does it not let you add new channels?
  16. What transmitting tone do you have to use on Channel 5 to access that "simplex" repeater?
  17. Or when I can get another one for $14, use the antenna for parts to make a better matched adapter! But until then this experiment proved that it could propagate very well from a rooftop antenna only connected to the red wire with no ground (apparently the way the mini-whip is connected as well).
  18. Yes, that works best to remember what is programmed to each of the 16 channels. I got this SMA to Alligator Clips adapter and unscrewed the non-standard antenna. I put the red clip inside the non-standard antenna jack and connected the SMA to a rooftop antenna and voilå this little thing is getting great reports through a local DMR repeater and it even works Digital Simplex really well, too! I would like to pick up a couple more if they were available and at the $14 price point, just to program for a couple of different DMR repeaters. And of course finding the C006D with the display would be a bonus!
  19. Can you please post the link here, too? Thank you.
  20. There is a flaw in HamRegistry's business model that affects many people that pay to use their service expecting privacy. However, I am not comfortable sharing this information with an "anonymous" poster that has no skin in the game...
  21. I got it, that I made a mistake, from your first post, repetition is just plain online bullying! Some people can dish out snark, but sure can't take it in return...
  22. You earn MORE myGMRS points when you actually answer the OP's problem, as compared to when you correct others who offer wrong answers...
