taco6513 got a reaction from WRUU653 in My repeater is getting hammered - HELP!!
Don't know if this was covered. If it has been please disregard.
Do you have your channel programmed into your radio for tone squelch or just squelch?
Had to change mine to tone squelch. Farmer on same channel but not on repeater
coming on the base at the house. Changed to tone squelch, farmer is still there
my radio sees the transmission still buy unless on correct tone I no longer hear it.
Hope this helps.

taco6513 got a reaction from WROA675 in Travel Tone Observation
The "Travel Tone" is CTCSS 141.3 Hz. Has become a standard tone for travelers and others to talk to each other.
I hear traffic on this tone on many different channels of GMRS.
Weatherford OK is right on I-40.

taco6513 got a reaction from WROA675 in Travel Tone Observation
I have my base station back up after my lighting strike. I monitor MURS, and GMRS Channels 1-22. I have the FRS 8-14 programmed for monitoring.
I have overserved a great number of people using the Travel Tone" . I have all the channels programmed into my D578 with the travel tone.
If these users are using the travel tone in my book they want to be talked to by other operators?
I get some positive replies and some less the positive replies when I try to talk back to them.
So what I guess I am asking. Is why use the "Travel Tone" if you don't want to be bothered?
Thanks

taco6513 got a reaction from TOM47 in Color Graded TOPO Map
I found a TOPO map that is color graded to the height in meters. Lets to pick a spot
and will tell the altitude for that spot. Red's are higher and blue's are lower.

Looks like a good tool.

taco6513 reacted to marcspaz in Mobile antenna
Comet CA-2x4SR dual-band antenna has a capacitance hat to tune it for GMRS simplex frequencies. It works really well on the FRS and repeater frequencies too.
I have tried a dozen or more antennas. For high gain and solid range, it can't be beat, in my opinion.
6.2 db gain, 40" tall so it works with a mag mount, and rated for 150 watts if you want to use it for other UHF and VHF applications.

taco6513 got a reaction from RCM in Interesting Traffic
I went over to where my base station is set up. Turned on my radios and started scanning as I had a few minutes to burn.
Started hearing some unusual traffic on channel 6. The station was giving out what I thought was really personal information.
I was hearing: peoples names, dates of birth, health information, number of family members, car make and model with tag numbers.
I listened for a little bit. Scanned for the CTCSS or DCS tone. There was no tone found.
Contacted my local police department. Took my radio down to the PD and the Officer was also concerned about this type of
information being transmitted over an open channel. They began to investigate this.
I decided to key up with my call sign and try to contact the operators and get there purpose and company name.
It turned out to the the local food bank. They were IDing people to receive food.
I advised the PD I was going down to talk to them about this. They said they were sending an officer as well.
I just told them that people as far away as 10 miles could here this information and that I was concerned about this type of
information being sent over an open channel. They seemed a little confused on how I was listening to them.
They stopped using the radios and went to cell phones.
Just thought I would share this story. I guess that makes me the radio police or at least concerned enough to reach out.
Thanks for reading.

I don't know where the FCC is on enforcement but here in Racine Wisconsin the WI DOJ has been knocking on doors looking for the people that have been connecting radios to the statewide P25 trunking system known as WISCOM. I know 2 ex law enforcement offices that both got visits yesterday. With the visits came lots of questions about one person... All I have to say is play stupid games win stupid prizes, FCC won't investigate so here comes the DOJ. When caught these guys will wish it was the FCC because the DOJ will issue you and anal probing the likes of an alien abduction....

taco6513 got a reaction from Logan5 in Weather Radio
Would it be possible to use the VOX part of a GMRS radio to broadcast weather warnings from a NOAA weather radio?
If so how could you do this? or Could it be connected to my Icom Fr-4000 repeater some how?
This would give another layer of communications to get the warnings out there.
Me and my guys are out and this would be good for my crew.
Thanks
