  1. This is very interesting OldRadioGuy. $125 cost more then the KG-805G... Bluetooth on a day can go 20-50 feet based on how good the units are. Like my Apple Ear buds II can go though walls and floors. I would like to hear from someone who has this and how well it works. I interest if at $70. I did save the link in my Christmas for 2021. Jack
  2. Thanks MozartMan for screen shot. Question, I do not have a PC so can you tell me is there a difference in the Wouxun-KG-905G-Programming-Software to that of the Wouxun-KG-805G-Programming-Software? I'm wandering if I can use CHIRP with 905G. I will backup first if I get 905G. Jack
  3. Hey MozartMan, I have this eliminator in my Jeep, works great as I put a mounting kit on back that attaches to the passenger side handrail. So to get 805G out I just unclip the battery two buttons and eliminator stays in Jeep and I slam battery on the back and off I go. Sweet. Jack P..S. Jeep owners feel free to PM me with your email address and I will send photos of what I have.
  4. Hey Mikeebob, You can turn off the blue light while scanning BUT it turns the light off so you can not see anything. Go to menu and on top right side of LED screen you will see 20 "WT-LED". My is on blue like yours. Move it to OFF with up down arrows. Hit menu again to save. Now get your flashlight out to see the screen. How when you hit a signal you will see the other colors you set up... I like the blue as it tells me it is scanning. As OldRadioGuy said does not draw anything in power. Get a bigger battery. I have my 805G scan for two days and had 1/4 power left. Hope that helps. Jack
  5. Sorry Vince in long delay in response to your post... Wife remodeling kitchen and she picked me for the job.... It a two month project and down to hanging cabinet doors back up. Yes, MozartMan was very happy, even to hear BTWR owner wanted the file to help others who call his support. Happy to serve. You can run CHIRP on your PC if you like... Michael uses both programs on his PC, if I remember him saying so in a PM or Post. We like it for the cut and paste moving channel location on the radio list then upload to radios. I should state I do not have a PC switched to Mac years ago as the now adult kids where in High School and College and I could not support MS Window while on the road.... So I told them call 1-800 Apple so they would value my help. Remember back in those days we did not have screen sharing software or fast internet, more like dialup speed, yes I'm old. Yes, I saw Michael post... on KG-905G. I'm reading up to see if it a radio for me... I do not want to be radio poor if I'm planning to sit for Ham ticket with Grand Daughter "GD" this summer which will lead to more radios and possible divorce, thus the kitchen project. Joking. With what spend and saved on this DYI project I could have a whole house full of radios and rent them out to others. You are not the only person who has new KG-805G... my two are 8 weeks old. But for my first radio, I know there would be bigger and better radios coming. So I have no regrets at $80 purchase for a Part 95 certified radio for GMRS. It is for the longterm and hand me down value. It has great sound and reach our local privately owned repeater... 20+ miles oneway with the handheld and 15 inch antenna. I have not mounted my outside antenna yet as I to remove driver dash and fix knee speaker then run cable through firewall in that general area per youtube. It is a rainy day Jeep project after kitchen. As the Grand Kid "GK" get older and prove to me they can use a FRS like one should on a GMRS radio, it will be hand me down then but that's several years away. They will work find for two of the GK boys at the right time. So my 805G is a stepping stone as GD and as we will be studying and setting for our Ham ticket this summer. A firmware update would be nice just for the scanning, but who knows if the firmware upgrade and the 805G chip are workable... above my pay grade. As for lower power channels, I put a few location at the end of the channel listing. Yes they are duplicates channel and I added PL Code and label them LPower and HPower so I would say to GD, "go to HP" because I was getting to far away. Or if she could not hear me she would go to HPower and call out. I do that with CHIRP software as it easy. But backup your radio config on both PC software and CHIRP or you will be reaching out to me.... FYI I'm up to 3 PM request for my factory backup config file. I'm a little long but you had some good comments worth sharing what going on with me and 805G and 905G. Back to work on the kitchen, my break is over. Jack
  6. Nice radio. So Michael, does it have option to select scan channels.... Jack
  7. Vince, It is OK to use CHIRP for 805G... Just do not delete some of the channels. I'm the guy who fixed MozartMan bricked 805G with a backup of the factory setting... You see both MozartMan and I deleted the error channel on the list which the radio uses as a check setting... so to others do not delete channels errors on the list. In fact the owner of BTWR contacted me and asked me for the file I sent so to MozartMan which worked so they would have it to give out as many of his users have Mac and not PC which only CHIRP works on Mac and not the PC version of 805G software... In fact Micheal and I use CHIRP for our 805G as we can do so much more in setting up the radio... Config different scans and other setting. So easy to use and understand. Hope this helps you. Jack P.S. Any Mac users with CHIRP on a 805G, feel free to PM me and we will get you up and running... it may take a phone call and within 15 to 30 you will be happy.
  8. Welcome Billy to the forum from a fellow newbie since Nov 2020. I have a 2018 JLR (4th Jeep) and use a https://www.buytwowayradios.com/midland-mxta26.html with mag base https://www.buytwowayradios.com/midland-mxta12.html But under full disclosure I have only put it on my steel bumper to test it out and found that my KG-805G handheld works so well with it's 15 inch antenna which the handheld is mounted on the hand rail on passenger side with a mic/speaker draped over the mirror. I picked the steel front bumper as it it protected area while off road. I have to fix a speaker in the driver side and will remove the dash to get to it, then will I run wire through the firewall. I also plan to use this same antenna for my RV so antenna has a dual use. Keep reading all you can and ask questions as these guys are very helpful and everyone has a viewpoint that will lead you to your decision as to what you want to do. Jack
  9. Vince, I feel your pain... what I did was get the cable and since I have a Mac, I use CHIRP software and select KG-816 since KG-805G is not on the list yet. Now I put at the end on the FRS/GRMS/Repeater channels my picks. That way the channels I use the most is at the end of channel location. I would cut and paste say a line for channel 15 and put it at the end and label the location Channel "15 Low". I would not add two powers for all the channels, just my select ones. I would also add my privater repeaters I'm a member of with the PL codes and leave the Repeater Channels with no PL codes so I can listen in. Hope this mockup works for you. This is my spreadsheet not what it looks like on the CHIRP software I have to program. Jack Disclaimer... this is for illustration only do not use to program your radio...
  10. Keep us posted as you go along... You did read Micheal post above on firmware upgrade... Hope that helps. Jack
  11. Nice... Looks like Nevada. I would upload my jpg but having issues on how on this site. I can get the file down so small I hope you can see it. I do like this tool as well https://www.ve2dbe.com/rmonline_s.asp as they both have a place... Jack
  12. MozartMan, this happen to me over the Christmas holiday and could not get help from BTWR as they where closed... So being an computer guy, I just took the saved CHIRP file I made before making any changes... It fixed it and then reprogramed and all is working... Send me a PM with you email address and I will send you a virgin factory CHIRP config file for you to upload (send) to your 805G... Jack
  13. You guys have been so helpful. My mentors and coachs move me from a GR1225 to a VRX-7000 as they have this unit and will help me by programing it to my base and RV needs. I will started with a Ed Fong rollup antenna for use on my RV but to start will use it at base.. Let's face it ... I have not found the perfect location on the house and need architectural approval (from my wife) to locate a DB 404 on top of my chimney which is the highest structure on the house, some 300 feet above ground (split level but only has two stories with a fake doomer third floor). Keep in touch with suggestions.Jack
  14. Well this forum is all about what you discover so we can learn... Keep us informed so we can lean as well. Jack
  15. Thanks for your review... on fan issue. I do not have a 1000 yet and was thinking use it as a mobile not a base. If the fan is a issue can you mount the radio somewhere else as it has a xx foot wire to mount remote head else where? I'm asking as I'm look at my location so if the fan is an issue. But wait I'm so old I have ringing in my ears now and I may not hear the fan over the ringing in my ears... not joking, Jack
  16. So true... I miss read his post thinking he did not have his HT set up for repeater.... Thanks for correcting me, will read better next time. Jack EDIT: I reread this post and it started with "listening to repeaters with non-repeater radio". One thing is clear, I did not know his radio was FRS/GMRS capable. I have to go deeper than what question is asking. I have a lot to learn from this lesson... Thanks.
  17. Since you have two GXT1000, have one radio scan as WRCE984... then when you hear something on channel x and if that is 462.550 turn your second radion to 467.550 so you can hear both sides of the conversation... As WRCE984 said make sure you PL codes are disable. As looking for repeaters in your area, go to https://mygmrs.com/repeaters?name=&location=&state=NJ&frequency=&output_tone=&input_tone=&type=&ori=&travel=&sort=Location&step=50 and look for locations that are 20 miles from you. You will see what Freq they are on and tune to that without scanning. Happy hunting, Jack
  18. Thank you Michael for taking the time to do this.... As well as Radioguy7268 for providing test radios. I did make it through reading the looong report and very detail. As for the human ears results works for me... If I you can't hear it clear or at all, it fails, I do not need a machine to say how loud or not it is... It all about can I hear and understand the read Constitution. So as a fellow owner of KG-805G with 15 inch Authentic Nagoya NA-771G Handheld GMRS Antenna (15.3 Inch / SMA Female) is a killer setup for our needs. I can reach the repeater with easy. Thanks again guys as well as the comments on wide or narrow band... learned a lot from you all. Jack
  19. Yes MozartMan, I would cut and paste a repeater channel and paste in open line and relabel channel to xyz repeater. Would do my PL code from the radio. Then the next time I would pull data from radio and save that file. Jack
  20. Welcome to the myGMRS, brotherhood of fellow newbies Michael WRFS927. I would pick Wouxun KG-1000G, per the specs, sounds like a great radio for the price and features... I would use the radio in my Jeep or base but my KG-805G 5 watt Handheld reaches the big repeater with 20-30 miles range and have a great repeater owner/operator. I wish the USA radio firm who are marketing Chinese made radios add the added the feature we are lookin for and see in the KG-1000... My mentor Michael WRHS965 and I both have Wouxun products... I which so call American made radio firms who outsource manufacturing of their radio tell their Chinese manufactors to up the features that Wouxun has. I do like the Motorola products as I have been in LEO for 30 years and trust them well, but they are not Part 95 certify or made in USA IMHO, so if I'm wrong let Motorola correct me for my knowledge... Under full disclosure I will be using a Motorola GR1225 for a family private repeater which is Part 90 certified with a lot of feature I'm looking for. I will have less than $800 in a family repeater project thanks to the myGRMR advice. I also like the Wouxun KG-1000G with the removable face plate or head for use as a base and or mobile installation. In my life I want to have flexibly which is key as I learn so much from the guys on this forum.... Hope this helps.. Jack
  21. Kirk, you are forward thinking... I like all the replies to use scadacore which I will check it out. I have been using https://www.ve2dbe.com/rmonline_s.asp which gives me a great view for placing a repeater based on elevation off of US TOPO maps... Going to play with scadacore to see what is up... I have wanted to attached some screen shots of what my repeater footprint would look like... but file to big per this forum limits. Sorry, send me a pm with your email address and will send you images... Jack EDIT: Just played with scadacore https://www.scadacore.com/tools/rf-path/rf-line-of-sight/ it nice for line of sight... You need to know your GPS coordinates before you start... Just fill in and click plot... Now I'm going to try it with my 5 watt handheld.
  22. Vince, add me to the list of liking my 805G... Now for an easy way to go lower power is I programmed into our 805G a LPower channel, HPower channel (which is the same Freq just power change) and also did a HBand with full power on GMRS channel and LBand on the FRS channel. I think I have hundreds of locations to add a mix of label channels... I even label all my repeater by name and PL codes leaving the Rpt 15-22 with no PL codes so I can hear other repeaters which I'm not on. Hope that helps. Jack
  23. It is up now.. https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchLicense.jsp Using Safari on a Mac.
