help with connecting and receiving transmission from repeater
WRUU653 replied to WRXJ907's topic in General Discussion
My guess is they’re receiving transmissions… -
I’ll work on it okay there is also a GMRS club on this site for the area. OP will have to join mygmrs.com first.

Looks like there is a ham club in your area, they may be able to help. non affiliated link below https://www.w9uvi.org

I can understand that too. My bad. Solution is a better radio then. I can recommend a Wouxun KG-S88G. All you need to do is select what channel you want to duplicate then go to menu-channel add, select what channel number position you would like to add it to. Then you can add whatever CTCSS you would like to add to it. I tested this out and you can add anywhere in the 400 channels. Set all your radios the same and you are good to go. Just tell your people what channel to use. Radio has busy channel lock out to prevent less savvy users from walking on someone using the frequency. This isn’t a thirty dollar radio but I think it’s worth it.

So do it for them. Do you need to change things that often? Another option you may want to consider is just getting a set of Murs radios. Not that much traffic, license free, you can still set ctcss. In the end it’s still radio and other people can and do use it. Cell phones maybe what you need.

I do love when you start a post with “the following might include”… for real I have to disagree with the idea that this is focused on burritos though. The whole reason I get burritos is because all the goodness is wrapped up and easy to manage while motoring about. Now tacos that’s where you run into trouble! Stuff just sliding out the ends, it’s a mess, total food chaos.

This wouldn’t surprise me either. Also it is a government agency, they have been bringing in more money with popularity and license sales up and as these entities tend to get more budget based on previous budget spending. It stands to reason they gotta do more to justify getting more. Add in more users equal more potential miss users. When CB got ugly it was license free so it seemed no one cared but when people have to pay to use something they will have expectations they are getting something for the fees they pay. Just my thoughts…

Check this thread out. I hope this helps.

Thanks, I misunderstood and thought you were either saying FRS was wide or that narrow required better technology but I think you are saying better technology would be needed (which it isn't in todays FRS bubble packs and I'm sure other radios) if you utilized moving things closer together to reduce bleed over. I need more coffee
-
FRS is narrow band though... I may not be fully understanding what you are trying to convey. My understanding is that wide/narrow band in this context isn't about channel spacing but rather the band width of the transmission within the channel spacing.

Baofang transcievers and issue with local repeaters

This has been my experience as well with my Baofeng radios, I need to put them on complete opposite sides of the room or they will mess with each other. -

Honestly I don’t know if a meter is enough space with the radios I think I would try more like six. Good luck I hope you get it worked out. ? -

I looked this over several times and I find myself arriving back to the desensing conclusion. How close are the radios during this last test? Are you programming via a computer? If so could we see an image from that? -
Oh, okay good! I have a drawer of them somewhere around here...?

what he said...?

I agree with this. Also off-road/over landing seems to have gained in popularity over the years and with it GMRS has become the radio service of choice, much better than CB for the reasons @Lscott mentioned, you can fit it in your pocket. Of course as Randy, aka @OffRoaderX, aka Notarubicon has indicated “chicks love a guy with a radio” ? ( I really don’t know about that, mine loves me despite the radio).

Good catch. I was thinking of audio transmissions not data/text. -
Why is Tennessee not connected to the GMRS Hub?
WRUU653 replied to JeffEngel's topic in National and Regional GMRS Nets

You are right on track with my thoughts on this. With two identical radios the only scenario I could think of was human error in the test procedure*. In any event starting with removing RX narrows the testing down. I agree OP sounds like they’re testing is on point but we all make mistakes. *I once thought my radio was frozen and then realized I hit the lock button the day before on a hike ?? You bring up an excellent point about checking/programming with software, much easier to get them the same and see what you’ve programmed. I have no recommendations for the curse option, perhaps offering one Baofeng as a sacrifice??
