These people could just get their GMRS license. Massive budget? I mean how many people are we talking about? How much you got into all that gear?

I was also trying to figure this out. Not type 95e Radios? Non licensed people using GMRS channels and repeaters? commercial use? Is that a thing? ? Anything that couldn’t be easily rectified or is a real problem? I’m no radio cop, just curious also as you brought it up.

I just tried all versions of map settings on my iPad, newest iOS and everything seems to work fine. On occasion I have had the repeaters disappear from the map but a refresh of the page brings them back.

I don't see why not. I know it's more of a Ham thing but I like it. There is a guy about 20 miles away that frequently says he is monitoring the GMRS repeater that is on the hill between us. Nice to know he's there if I want to test something new out or whatever. Once I heard him on a Ham freq. while my radio was scanning and he was inquiring about something and I was able to jump on the GMRS repeater (I don't have a Ham lic.) and offer an answer because I knew he'd be there too. WRUU653 I'm eating breakfast who's with me?

As @WRHS218 mentions the valley floor is fairly flat and a lot of the trails go up and have a potential to put you at a good line of site advantage to people down below. No repeater coverage but I would certainly bring the radios. That would be some awesome coverage.?

The KG-S88G is UHF only, it's more basic but uses superheterodyne and has great quality, it's waterproof, and seems rugged in it's build. easy to program in the radio. Chirp is not available for it but if your a windows guy they have their own software. Great for GMRS coms, using on a jeep trip or kayak. No FM, no weather channels. The KG-935G is UHF and VHF receive, FM and weather channels. It's going to be better if you want to scan. Not a superheterodyne but still really good quality sound for TX and RX. It's not waterproof. both the new KG-935G Plus and the KG-S88G have USB charging but you'll have to remove a plate with screws for the KG-S88G because of the waterproof rating. I have both of these and I like them both. I keep the S88G programmed fairly basic and use it for GMRS coms, GMRS scanning and to take out in the world for talking. The 935G Plus is my go to if I want to scan and listen but still be able to communicate but it's not going in the boat with me or in the mud off roading. I hope this helps.

Repeaters are required to identify. You have to read the whole thing. You do see where it says “if” don’t you? You can’t decide to stop reading something in its entirety and glean only the meaning you want. I mean you can but you’re still incorrect.

I believe if the info from the repeater owner hasn’t been updated on mygmrs.com in over a year. We have one here that is still active but the owner needs to update on the site it would seem.

How do you know they are on a repeater and not talking simplex?

Incorrect. They are not required to ID if it’s only being used by people under the same license (family) and they identity with that call sign. That’s it, in all other scenarios the repeater must identify as far as the FCC rules are concerned. c) Any GMRS repeater station is not required to transmit station identification if: (1) It retransmits only communications from GMRS stations operating under authority of the individual license under which it operates; and, (2) The GMRS stations whose communications are retransmitted are properly identified in accordance with this section.

I was wondering why more people don’t go with an antenna that doesn’t need a ground plane when one isn’t easily available.? Would it be safe to say all things being equal that an antenna with a ground plane is best? Also is there any benefit to a non ground plane type antenna in an application that does have a ground plane?

I like the idea of controls on the mic as well. Retevis has one now also. I think it’s 20 watt. Looks like it has RX on the lower wattage 8-14 channels. Midland doesn’t bother to put them in since you can’t TX on them. I’m not ready to pull the trigger on the mobile yet, I’ve been just watching what comes out. I’m sure as soon as I’ve made a decision and purchase something new will come along ?

You would still be able to communicate if you don’t have that. My understanding though it is better that your settings match those that you are communicating with for a clearer reception. I personally don’t have a separate set of programmed channels just for narrow band FRS settings but if you are talking with FRS radios (bubble packs) a lot I suppose it would make sense to have it if you got the room.

??? you got me man. Getting older myself. I hadn’t watched it in a while but I’m fairly certain if superheterodyne is what you want in a mobile the Wouxun radios are going to be the ones. Though I think solid and simple the Midlands have a good reputation though I don’t have one. Thanks for the laugh and thank you for your service.

I am unaware of a list of all GMRS radios of any organized fashion. You’ll have to go shopping ? but that’s the fun of it. 50 watts is going to be the max though for mobile/base radios.

If you are in frequency mode you can scan frequencies for days. Even the GMRS frequencies/channels had to be added by someone somewhere and they are a specific set of channels/frequencies so easy to preload that. Just as you would add repeater programming for your area you can add local Ham frequencies. Adding will be easier with the software.

You can but that’s a lot of scanning and if no one is there you wouldn’t know if you passed over a frequency used in your area. Best to put in what you want to scan.

Check these for Ham frequencies near you http://www.interceptradio.com and https://www.radioreference.com then program them in like other frequencies you have added.
