Wouxon KG-1000G Scan Groups - How to Activate?

Question

Posted

Hello:

Question for any Wouxon KG-1000G owners (or other models with scan group functionality) .  The manual states you can assign channels to separate scan groups and then scan just one of the assigned groups (as opposed to all).  While I am able to assign channels to different scan groups, I don't see in the manual or settings how to activate scanning of a specific channel group.  P.S. I do not yet have the programming cable for the software (out of stock everywhere).  Any help or guidance would be appreciated!

Regards,

Mike

You really need the cable for that function, as once you see it it sort of makes sense!!

I tried to send an image of how the scan groups are set up but for some reason I can not get the jpg to load so if you have the software (free) downloaded and installed open it up and click on the tab SCAN GROUP where you will see the matrix. You can download software   here https://www.buytwowayradios.com/wouxun-kg-1000g.html?amp;amp;

Click on downloads and get the software! Hope that helps you

Menu Item 43 (SC-GROUP). The radios scans whatever scan group you have active in this setting.

OK, thanks for the pointers.  Without the cable, it's a bit hard to set this up.  I am able to scan a specific set of channels (Under Group 1) by using settings 33 & then 43.  I'm sure the software will be more intuitive and easier to set up multiple group scan lists.  Just have to wait for BTWR did get the cable in again.  The radio and the cable are sold almost immediately when they come in.

Choosing which scan group you want to scan from the radio is an easy matter with multiple Wouxun radios I own. However, programming which frequency range belongs in each scan group does in-fact require the software.

You do not need the cable to view and practice with the software in fact it is a good idea to do so, it helped me understand how the system works. You can edit and change things add PL codes etc. and then just close the software and the changes are not kept!!! Good luck!

I am glad you have been able to set your memory to a particular scan group. Please tell me how you did that. The scan group (menu 43) apparently selects the channel to be in a certain group, or does it select a group to scan? How do you assign a channel to a certain group, and how do you assign the scanner to scan a certain group? Once again, the manual falls short in explaining.

Configuring scan groups is a function of the factory software. You have 10 scan groups available. Each group can have a single contiguous range of memories associated with it (e.g Channels 1-20, 20-100, 5-20, etc.). Each group has a group number. From the radio you can pick which group you want to scan. That is what the scan group menu allows you to do, select which of those groups you want to scan. You also have the ‘All’ option, which allows you to scan all channels programmed into the radio.

Note that you can designate each channel memory to be scan-able or not scan-able. That setting you can change on the radio.

The manual for the KG-1000G is light years above every other Wouxun manual, but it still falls short of the ideal. In fact, the distributor had to write it themselves since the manufacturer is not qualified to write an english manual for one of their products.

Hope that helps.

I figured out how to do that in software, but haven't found a way to do it "on the radio".

Function menu 033 ‘SCAN-ADD’. Toggling the value of this function between ON and OFF determines if the current channel will be scanned or not.

Bummer. I got rid of Parallels like eight years ago.

Thx for the reply.

I can relate... about dropping Parallel and BootCamp.  I'm a Mac/iPad only these days.  I did keep an old XP and disconnected from internet and use USB flash drive to pass files to it to install PC software.

I am trying to run it on Linux using Wine, but I'm getting an error that it can't find MFC42.dll. I've tried a few workarounds, but so far have not found one that works correctly.

I know I'm a year late but I had the same problem. I found a PCO003 programming cable at R&L Electronics. https://store2.rlham.com/shop/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=pco003&osCsid=e1b876j6crep2cgmrhumbqjk94&x=0&y=0&search_in_description=1

You will need to configure the scan group in two places. Then write and it will put a smile on your face. Photos attached

There's probably thousands of these Papa Charlie Oscar 003 programming cables on a freighter at anchor near Long Beach waiting for Newsom and the union to off load them. R&L Electronics shows only one left in stock but if you want to search duckduckgo you may find more, it's just time consuming to look.

I checked with Governor Newsom and he told me: “I don’t always buy Wouxun cables, but when I do, I buy them at BuyTwoWayRadios.com” ?

Seems kinda pricey for a cable that normally retails for $15.

It's not the same cable.  As was stated previously, RT Systems software only works with one of their cables, which use their own drivers.  For example:

You won't find a "pick a com port" option in their software packages, because the software finds the cable automatically.
