Since many of the favorite radios people use are of Chinese manufacturer those are likely to see a big spike in price when the tariffs kick in.

And I would guess everything else that goes with them, battery packs, antennas, microphones etc.

So define “big”.  A 25% teriff on a $20 radio is $5.  Not big in my book but ok.  Now if your one of those guys that loves to spend $450 on a ccr then yea an extra $112 could be considered “big”.
now. If your one of those guys that runs used Motorola/kenwood radios it won’t affect you at all.

Bah, it won't hit like you think. Prices have gone up over the years already.  BUT, it is a good reason to buy that radio NOW and not later. Great excuse for the spouse, you'll be 'saving' money. I bought my Icom7300 many years ago on the cusp of potential tariffs back then, which never materialized.

Don't think its going to be a big deal. Many Motorola and Kenwood radios are made in Japan & Mexico, so they will be effected as well.

Well if you read what was written I said USED so no they will NOT be affected at all   Not one penny.  I’ve never paid more than $150 for a 50w professional radio.

True, especially for old base units and as long as you never need to replace handheld batteries.

Well, no; that $20 retail price was probably $6 when purchased by the importer. So a 25% tariff would be $1.50 which could easily be absorbed or partially absorbed rather than passed through. A 100% tariff might add $3 to the price.

Well technically the AnytoneAT-D578UV III is a tri-band 2m/1.25m/70cm amateur radio with DMR. Yes they can be opened up for GMRS.

I have not seen the Midland MXT500/575 or Wouxun KG-1000G ever cost over $400. Mot of the time they are right around $380. Those are the most expensive Part 95 certified GMRS radios that I know of.

We will just have to wait and see what happens.

And tariffs against China will affect some Yaesu models too since certain models are made in China.

The Anytone 578UVIII is actually a Premium quality radio with a full warranty, compared to other Chinese products.

I’m fine with a few bucks more as a result of tariffs and hopefully they have the desired impact.

Agreed. The impact needs to be to cripple greedy American conglomerates who outsource all manufacturing to China. Wouxun, Baofeng etc. are rare example of Chinese products sold directly to us. Most Chinese goods are made for companies like Proctor Silex etc. so executive heads can get rich selling us inferior junk products at HIGHLY inflated prices. This will be ending real soon. I'll keep my wideband capable Spectra mobile and Saber portable (made in Malaysia, not China). I have zero problem with Wouxun radios but I do have a problem with toasters, microwaves - EVERYTHING being made there under a trusted American brand name. REAL capitalism means many small to medium size businesses all doing well across our great country. Just google "American Made Products" - MANY things to choose from (sorry no radios). Thats where I buy.

Looks like the prices for those $25 CCR's might go up a lot more than 20% if ordered directly by mail. I just read the following on a news site today. Also the delay going through customs will likely be MUCH longer too. Get out your check book, or credit/debit card.

========================================================================================================

Trump even has gone to the point of making sure those who have been gaming the system now will be playing in a fair field, by eliminating the so-called 'de minimus' exceptions that allowed overseas companies, from China and the like, to ship directly to American consumers and avoid tariffs.

Those rules had allowed shipments under $800 in value to avoid any payment, and billions of those shipments were routinely sent and delivered.

Trump had given the Commerce Department time to develop a plan to collect those payments, and he said that now is in place.

Starting May 2, shipments under $800 will be subject to an ad valorem duty of 30% of the value of the postal item or $25 per postal item. On June 1, the per-postal-item tariff will increase to $50, reports confirmed. Billions in revenue for America are predicted.

Was on the phone yesterday with my stock broker and the hot investments right now are American companies competing with the Chinese market in hobby and light industiral arts stuff like 3D Printers, Laser cutters and etchers. etc.   He also told me some products coming from China like the Bambu Labs 3D printers are going to be made in America still owned by China investors.   Overall, i think this is all good and will drive quality back into the things we buy.

It won't impact the cost of radios as much as you may think. The tariff is collected on the value of the item at the port of entry. That $30 radio is probably only worth $6 on the dock. Most of the expense is in transport, advertising, handling, etc. A 25% tariff would mean that $30 radio went up to $31.50. Even a TYT TH-9800 probably is only worth $50-60 at the dock, meaning it would go up from $240 to $253. I think most of us will complain just a little and go right on buying radios.

So is the tariff levy on the wholesale or retail value? If it’s the wholesale value for sure then the price for just about all imported consumer goods might not go up nowhere near where the fear peddling media wants the public to believe.
