WRXB215 got a reaction from WRUU653 in Programming Multiple DCS/CTCSS Codes
A link to where I bought it? Here.
In the AnyTone software, select Model and then select Band2.
I did not find a place to do this in CHIRP but you can do everything else in CHIRP.
BTW, this is the latest "VOX" version of the radio and programming software. Strange name but that is what they call it. Maybe the previous version didn't have VOX.
Also, I'm pretty sure you can do this on the radio I just chose to use the software to do it and now I use CHIRP for everything else.
Here it is in CHIRP:

That's strange. I had no problem at all with mine. 🤔

WRXB215 got a reaction from WRDV967 in Roger beep settings
I have no real preference concerning the roger beep but "some people" really get their panties in a wad over it. One morning on my way out of town at about 4:30am I was using a new UV-5R and the roger beep was on. Some guy came on and chewed me out for about 15 minutes. Some people really need to get a life.

WRXB215 got a reaction from Merky1761 in Baofeng UV9G/ Channel 15
I can't say in your particular case but I had a situation once where, I upgraded chirp, then tried to set duplex to off on some channels, and chirp was filling those cells with a bunch of ???. Within 2 or 3 days, there was a new version of chirp again and after I upgraded chirp the problem went away.

WRXB215 got a reaction from WSAG780 in New Licensed GMRS User
Welcome @WSAG780 and @WSAH452. GMRS is a great service and I know you will both enjoy it. As @gortex2 you should use type certified radios but don't sweat it. Half or more of the people I talk to on GMRS aren't using type certified radios and no one cares as long as they stick to all the rest of the regs.

You’re are correct. Note to self, drink coffee before responding. Thanks for the catch.☕️ 🥱

It's all good. I know what it's like to have too much blood in the caffeine system. And we all make mistakes from time to time. What matters is that we realize we do. 👍

WRXB215 reacted to WRYZ926 in Truck setup
Let me clarify my last reply a bit. When I was talking about a longer antenna, I was not necessarily talking about an antenna 30" or longer. I know that not everyone wants or can have an antenna that long. There are good antennas in the 16-20 inch length too.

Try the Radioddity UV-5G in CHIRP. That is what I have to use when programming my Baofeng UV-5R GMRS radios.

Are you restricted in antenna heights above the cab of your truck? If not, a longer antenna will perform better especially in the middle of your cab roof.
I drive a 2023 Ford Escape and park in the garage so I am limited to a maximum of a 20" tall antenna. I first tried the Midland MXTA51 that came with my MXT500 radio. That antenna is 6" long. It did okay. But I do get better results running the 20" Nagoya UT-72G antenna. I would rather use a longer antenna if I could.

WRXB215 reacted to WRYS709 in UV-5G plus CPS
If I recall correctly, the Chirp set for the UV-5X should work with that radio. Also check for Radioddity model numbers instead of Baofeng in Chirp.

WRXB215 reacted to WRYS709 in DMR Tier-1 Radio, FDMA not TDMA?
When Baofeng originally released its DMR RD-5R, it was Tier-1 to every DMR repeater administrator's chagrin!
Radioddity finally fixed it with the electronics from their GD-77 squeezed into the UV-5R form and released a Tier-2 RD-5R.

WRXB215 got a reaction from WRUU653 in What is the best commercial radio for GMRS use?
Just a little anecdote on commercial radios. A few months ago I was given an old Kenwood TH-75A. I also have a brand new Baofeng UV-5R8W. Last night I was listening to the NOAA Galveston station and decided to check out the difference between these two radios. I still like the Baofeng but WOW! the Kenwood sounded significantly better.

Actually it’s the TK-3170. Great HT for GMRS carry. Can push it out of band for use in the Ham 70cm band. It’s also Part 95 certified too.

If you don’t care about FCC certification there other Kenwood HT’s you can try. Mainly they are FM and some digital mode, the later usable on the Ham bands. The ones with DMR might be attractive for Ham useage.

WRXB215 reacted to SteveShannon in GMRS Base station with 136-174rx?
The KG-1000G plus from Wouxun is very popular with those who have purchased it. Some consider it the best mobile radio specifically built for GMRS. It is certified for GMRS and transmits on GMRS only. But it will also receive a wide array of frequencies between 50 MHz and 985 MHz (not completely inclusive), including 108-179 MHz:

You might want an antenna switch as you can switch between a good GMRS antenna and something else for the other bands you want to listen to.

WRXB215 reacted to Lscott in FCC Part 95
The question is why is it "still currently limited" at low power and a narrow bandwidth? One other point is licensed GMRS radios also have the same exact limitation for the same reason, to reduce interference to the repeater input frequencies. It's not just an FRS thing.
-
WRXB215 reacted to Lscott in FCC Part 95
No its not a myth. In the 2017 rule changes the FCC increased the power to 2 watts on FRS EXCEPT those particular channels for a reason. FRS was never intended to have repeater access. Channels 8-14 being located between the high power GMRS exclusive repeater input channels can lead to interference and "possibly" keying up of a repeater since the frequencies overlap to a degree. That depends on how tight the repeater input filters are and how close the FRS radio is to it where enough signal can leak through them. The FCC couldn't ignore the existing population of combo radios so they left the specifications lower for power and bandwidth. That was about the best they could do under the situation.
-
WRXB215 reacted to Lscott in Which would you prefer?
I'm not so sure this is true. The reason is the right questions are not being asked and debated fairly. See attached file.
I think what should be asked with digital voice should it be allowed on all channels or restricted to particular ones? I think it should be restricted to a few selected channels.
Next what digital voice mode should be used? Note I used the singular "mode" as opposed to allowing multiple modes. Standardizing on one would make the radios cheaper, more competition, and the radios from different manufactures would interoperate. People point out DMR should be used, however it might not be the best choice!
I really dislike comments to the effect that anyone who proposes digital voice on GMRS is trying to turn it in to a "Ham Lite" service. No. It's about improving the quality of the communications. I was monitoring a local repeater here at work. The one station had low modulation and a weak signal. The audio was hard to understand and the beacon frying noise just made it worse. If the signal was digital very likely neither of the above would have degraded the communication experience. The typical GMRS user wants clear communications. When given the choice I doubt they would care if the signal was digital if they had good solid copy.

WRXB215 reacted to SteveShannon in Rockland County New York: Why is Mark Levin's show playing on ch20?
I don’t agree. It doesn’t matter who is being targeted; a channel is being blocked. Interference is interference. Broadcasting and playing music are also violations.
-
WRXB215 reacted to SteveShannon in Rockland County New York: Why is Mark Levin's show playing on ch20?
Actually, there is. Contact the local ham club, tell them about the interference. See if they will help find the location of the jammer and then turn it in to the FCC.
