You COULD, but it would not function optimally because it's not made for/tuned for the 462-467Mhz range of GMRS. If you bought this specifically to use with your GMRS radio then yah, you bought the wrong kind.

Thanks .. When I posted a comment in this forum saying that this has been posted online, "Some people" decreed that what I said was: "a deliberate and blatant lie. No one ever said anything close to that." I thought it was weird how "some people" could claim to know that "NO ONE EVER SAID ANYTHING CLOSE TO THAT". I guess this just demonstrates how stupid and arrogant "some people" actually are - it seems that the harder they try to show everyone how smart they think they are, they just make themselves look more ridiculous.

I am curious if anyone has ever seen it posted online or been told: "if you transmit without an antenna, your radio will be damaged" ... With regard to any kind of radio (CB, GMRS, ham, etc). And if you were told this/saw this information posted online, were there any qualifiers included? Ie; did they say "...but only IF you're using an older radio" or "it might take a while, it wont happen immediately" ?

You can enter Dealer Mode in the standard software by adding a couple of letters to your program shortcut when you run it - I dont remember what it is but you can search for it here - it's something like "/D" after the .EXE .. Once in dealer mode you can enable CW-ID and a bunch of other stuff. Warning: Dont change something if you dont know what it is.. But no sexy voice option.
-
Why not just use the automatic CW-ID that is built-in on the VXR-7000?

Ok, THIS I support!

This is why i always recommend purchasing from Amazon whenever possible and NEVER directly from the manufacture website especially if it is in Chyna.. That way if you get a radio that does not work as advertised, instead of jumping through hoops and running in circles, you just send it back for a full refund - something that Amazon makes very easy to do.

On GMRS all phonetics are funny because they aren't necessary and many people laugh at them.

If you have ever been told lies or heard myths about radios that you would like to see tested, please post it in this thread. Good/common ones will be featured on the interwebz largest and most beloved GMRS Related YouTube channel. Some examples that have already been debunked are: If you transmit on any radio, for any length of time without an antenna, your radio will vaporize If you coil your coax you will get a high SWR and your radio will vaporize If your SWR is higher than 1.x:1, nobody will hear you...and your radio will vaporize Ghost antennas do not work and are nothing more than a dummy load Any radio not costing $300+ and not made in 'Merica or Japan is "junk" If you press the PTT button without a license the FCC will fine you or put you in jail "Sad Hams" do not exist Feel free to keep this thread going as long as necessary. I will not rest until all myths/lies have either been debunked or proven true.

Probably something digital being transmitted.

Please don't.

Yes.. I got a very gently used one for $500.

As @Sshannon said I too experienced desense with my KG1000 repeater build, but after separating the radios and adding some shielding i was getting 15+ miles of farz. But switching to a VXR7000 repeater more than doubled my farz even though it outputs about half the power.

The 935G is a tough one!

CHIRP runs on MacoOS and I believe you can use CHIRP with the UV-9G, but not with the Midland. You can download CHIRP here: https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Download Search Youtube for videos on how to program the UV-9G - if they exist, they will be there, but once you get CHIRP running, its much easier to do it that way.

Welcome to the exciting and dynamic GMRS lifestyle! The GM-15 Pro is a decent, low-cost radio. It has just as many farz as any other 5W handheld radio and dollar for dollar it's not a bad choice for a beginner The antenna that comes with it is fine, and based on the (much) testing I have done, it is doubtful that replacing it would make any difference that you would ever be able to notice, but definitely get the programming cable in you plan to program in a lot of repeaters or frequencies for monitoring.

I was going to start answering the questions, but jeezus.. I have to be in bed in 3 hours. Good luck.

Did it come with the tiny mag-mount antenna? If so, that antenna works surprisingly well IF you can mount it on the roof of your vehicle. If you are mounting the antenna anywhere else the larger MXTA26 works great - Yesterday was at Fremont Peak Rd near Hwy 395 in So.Cal, and was talking to a guy on his mobile radio on a hill above Silverwood Lake in So. Cal, exactly 63 miles away, and he was coming in loud and clear. You could use any "UHF" antenna, but you would have to cut/trim/tune it before you use it. If you buy a "GMRS" antenna like the MXTA26, you just take it out of the sack and put it on your car, no need for tuning or cutting.

Is FCC considering Digital on part of the GMRS band
OffRoaderX replied to WRUE951's topic in General Discussion
I think that just because two ham guys were talking about it does not mean it is true or accurate, but assuming it is, just because the FCC is considering it does not mean it will ever happen, and if it does ever happen, it will likely take years before it is approved.
