I'm Jewish. We don't get ham licenses. That's a sin.

WHAT? That would cost postage! We have 235,385,823,556,235,765 illegals and 28 foreign countries to support with "foreign aid". No way you're getting the US Government to waste postage on YOU, taxpayer. Joey Biden doesn't do ANYTHING for the taxpaying American.

SOBX got a reaction from WSCR225 in Family Communication on a repeater. How do I communicate regarding my call sign I share with my son ona repeater?
As long as you identify with callsign every 15 minutes, you're legal.
"Hey Fred this is dad" is perfectly legal so long as you throw your callsign out there every 15 minutes.
WRTS881/1 this is WRTS881/2 is too anal. Talk to your family like you normally would, just include a callsign every 15 minutes.

Cold and icky handshakes are OK if they're on the square and level. ;)

If I'm on a handheld and my wife is at home with a radio, I say "Mobile to base" after our call sign.
But, I'm old and set in my ways. Now, get off my lawn.

There is nothing to establish.. Talk to whoever you need to talk to, however you want. The FCCs says to announce your callsign every 15 minutes and refrain from profanity but since they dont bother to enforce the rules, it doesn't really matter.

SOBX got a reaction from WRYZ926 in Looking for advice to get a wire up.
I used two pieces of 10-foot iron pipe joined with a threaded coupler in the middle. But I didn't cement it directly in the concrete. I cemented two pieces of pipe iron and used two bolts. That way if I need to do maint. on the antenna or for hurricanes, I can take the top bolt out and lay the mast down. So far it's been up 3 years with no issues.
On the top is a fan dipole I made, on a piece of PVC pipe at 26 feet.

Obviously it is an acronym because "ham" would not make any sense. H.A.M. makes more sense to anyone with a good grasp of talking english good.

SOBX reacted to GP62 in Easy use phonetics any suggestion
I find throughout the day folks use all manner of methods of identifying themselves to include just using the last 3 numbers of the call sign as a conversation unfolds....Not having a problem keeping up with chit chat....

There's a little-known FCC regulation concerning a kosher license. It's so little-known, in fact, that no one knows about it.

After years in the military after having NATO beat into my skull...Alpha Bravo, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.
Then I left the military and went into law enforcement where NATO was "frowned upon" and APCO required .. Adam Boy, William Tom Frank.
Now I get beat up by "some sad people" for often inadvertently mixing the two ... Alpha Boy I mean Bravo, William I mean Whiskey Tango Frank, I mean Foxtrot.
Just what I need. Another phonetic alphabet.
